Two Rock, Carol Ann, Xits, DR Z all have great players with great chops playing clean and dirty tones in YOU TUBE demo clips. MESA MKIV you tube clips have the same shitty playing only in the gain channel. THE MESA CLIPS SUCK. SAME HALF ASS WANKING, SAME SHITTY TONE IN THE LEAD CHANNEL! WTF? ARE ANDY TIMMONS & PETRUCCI THE ONLY ONES THAT CAN GET DECENT SOUNDS OUT OF THE MESAS?
@MrBigbobby2345 This was a while ago, so actually I don't remember the settings. This is my dad's amp, and since I don't use it a lot, I'm not too familiar with it. I do know that it was the lead channel.
I have one that I got about 6 months ago used and it is by far the nicest LP i've played as well. Gibson got it so right! Funny thing is that i wasn't even planning on buying a guitar that day and was looking as the new standards guitars....until I picked the 58 VOS up for fun. I couldn't put it down and had to have it. Amazing sound
That's the song "She Said, She Said" (originally by The Beatles) but that one is Gov't Mule's version. If you like that, check them out. It's Warren Haynes' band. They're like heavy classic rock with a new twist.
Ik govt mule theyre pretty cool. Im into slightly more heavy bands that are famous for mark 4 tone. Like chevelle or ra or things like that. I want one so bad.
It's great. I'm not aware of any tonal differences between a plain top and a flame top (although I have heard some claim there is a difference). In terms of looks, it's not a super plain top, though. There is nice vertical grain as well as some flecking.
there are differences. the plain top sounds better. the figured woods like flame tops are essentially wood that has defects in it. same with birdseye. while pretty the tone does not resonate through them as well. most high end luthiers shy away from figured woods, and love the good ol straight grain
Most luthiers shy away from figured tops? Lmao that is far from the truth. That's like saying the tone doesnt flow through the body with the toggle switch ring and pickguard on... It is so minimal it doesnt fucking matter.
Many luthiers seek figured tops to give the guitar a unique appearance, ask any real luthier if they think figure will effect tone enough to not use it, they will just laugh.
actually i know many luthiers. they are the ones i learned this from. they only use figured wods if the customer wants it. they do say that it effects the tone, as well as the strength of the wood if used in the neck.
the good thing about the tailpiece wrap-over is that it allows you to crank the TP all the way down (for maximum contact) and not have the strings hit the back edge of the adjustable bridge, which is a tone-sucker. (check with a piece of paper just behind the saddles).
It's amazing the difference once you get the strings up off there, the whole guitar comes alive..
However one needs to be aware that you may need to re-intonate because of the change in string-length behind the bridge.
On the Reissue Les Pauls, you can crank the tailpiece down all the way and the strings don't touch the back of the bridge even WITHOUT top wrapping the tailpiece. At least, that's how mine is and many others I've seen.
I don't think I made myself clear. As far as I know, strings will still hit the backside of the bridge when screwing the tailpiece down all the way on the regular production models. But the Reissues are different. Has something to do with the way they're made.
No, you were clear. I'm not arguing with you. Good to know. I was just trying to impart a little tip to those who don't have one and may have watched this for a little drool-time while waitinf to get one. We're cool.
The neck is large, and I've found that my strings need to be a bit slinkier for me to play comfortably (I use the wrap around technique to string the strings the "wrong way" through the stop tail and up and over). The 59 neck is great, but it costs about 2000 extra dollars.
aahh cool, I am aware of the zakk wylde/joe bonamassa wrap around technique amongst others, and will probably try it out sometime when I get my paul. The R9's don't come in the sweet plain top finishes either, they're almost too shiny and new for me some how.
Sorry, if I was unclear. The "wrap around technique" refers to a way of stringing a Gibson style guitar where the strings are strung "wrapped around" the stop tail piece.
wrap around technique, regarding 'wrapping' the string 'over' the tune o matic bridge. Not finger posture or fretting hand technique. you have misread of misunderstood something.
Hey It sounds great. I have a les paul reissue too that is absolutly my #1. if you want a real organic sound try out a badcat hotcat 15 or 30. You will be blown away....major
wich version of sunshine of your love is that? I saw a video from solodallas playing that too.. it's nice:) .. some very nice playing btw! and oh, nice guitar;)
Hey thanks. I also heard that song from SoloDallas and got the mp3 backing track from him. It's actually not a Cream or Clapton song. It's some "Clapton-esque" or "Sunshine-esque" backing track that somebody made. It's fun to play along with, though!
Naw, it's not the Warren model, but it might as well be. =) It's basically the exact same guitar without the mini-switch that maintains treble when you roll off the tone knob, and it doesn't have the same color.
Two Rock, Carol Ann, Xits, DR Z all have great players with great chops playing clean and dirty tones in YOU TUBE demo clips. BUT, I prefer a fat neck over the slim 60s neck. The 58 is the next best thing to the 59, for me.

"zakk wylde/joe bonamassa wrap around technique"
I think I'd associate that style much more with Hendrix. His huge hands and long fingers made the guitar neck look tiny.
