  • Music is the devil?

  • @danrulz98

    Yes WB

  • what was the job of the capacitors, that you left in there? and why did you call the music the devil? copyright? lol Great video.

  • Thanks SpeakerFreak95

One is the tone capacitor and the other is the capacitor from the center of the volume control. Yes, WB.

  • Hi Rick, another good video I wish you a Happy New Year another radio brought back to life lovely to see.

    All the best John.

  • @johnmcgiv1

    Thanks John,

    Happy New Year

    Regards

    Rick

  • Good video.

  • Thanks charlessmyth

  • What's evil about that music?

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio Whats WB mean?

  • @78recordrepair

Warner Bothers, obviously you have never gotten a copyright infringement notice from YouTube because some music was playing in the background in your video.

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio Oh, Oh, Oh... Okay now I get it. Happy New Year!

  • @78recordrepair

    Happy New Year!

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio

Believe it of not, I received a copyright infringement notice because the Army band was playing in the background of the video I posted of my son graduating from Basic Training. They are definitely getting a bit ridiculous. That or a bit of music playing in the background during a vintage radio repair video is certainly different from posting full songs in MP3 quality for other people to copy.

  • Thanks capriracer351

    It is amazing:

    Happy New Year

    Regards

    Rick

  • Hi Rick,

I envy you all that space on the underside of the chassis, I really ought to re-cap the Eddystone radio I’m playing with but boy it’s tight for space in some places. Isn’t it a lovely moment when you breathe life back into an old radio like that, particularly when you know it’s died many years ago.

Kind Regards and all the best for the New Year ... Andy

  • Thanks AndyDaviesByTheSea

    Hey Andy,

Yes it is roomy and why not take advantage of it. That dose not happen very much. It was nice to hear sound out of it for the first power up. I'm so glad that all the coils are good.

    Happy New Year.

    Regards

    Rick

  • Good idea on testing the capacitor polarity, I had one blow up on me when I recapped the power supply in my oscilloscope because I accidentally put the cap in the wrong way round, no damage done tho, I just took it out and put another one in and made sure it was the right way round and now it all works perfectly.

  • Thanks CoolDudeClem

Yep, that is exactly why I check the polarity, don't need any explosions.

  • Rick,

You know, I've heard that those Candohm resistors have a bad habit of suddenly coming back to life after seemingly having burned out, thus one should never attach replacement components to the existing terminals. Removing and replacing it with those terminal strips was the only way to go. I always trash Candohms, even if they check good. They're too unpredictable.

I can't wait to see this puppy back together.

    Happy New Year, my friend.

    Regards,

    John

  • @joernone

    Thanks John,

    Happy New Year!

    Rick

Thanks! Hope you have a great new year!

  • Rick, Just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your many post that I have enjoyed this year. I appreciate that you explain things as simply as possible, so that us newbies are able to follow along. I am on the last chapter of your book and will start second reading shortly.

I wish you all the best in the coming year, thanks again.

  • Music from the devil?

  • @MrVinamp

    Yes, WB

  • i love watching these "fixing old stuff videos" i have old WW II german radio that grandfather got hands on i dont know how to fix it i get high pitch whistle on it besides that it works fine i dont want to trow it away wood on it is in perfect shape and looks like its from future by the design its just cool to have one too bad this is serbia and i cant find anyone to fix it

  • @zox012

Because of the province of that radio, I would keep it all original. From your description it sounds like a museum peace. Also from your description the capacitors probable need replacing. Do a video on it, we all would like to see it.

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio

well im a very poor guy and i dont have camera in any way but i will borow it from guys at work since someone is eager to see. and the truth is it isnt fixed because i dont have money for repairs. my grandfather told me he got it 1941 and i can only trust him on word since there are no plates and he died. anyway u wanted video ill get it on first working day :) monday evening i guess

  • What is the B+ voltage on that radio?

  • Thanks douro20

Yes that is the original resistor strip. Probable one part of it opened and that is why it was rewired by someone. Some of the wiring was wrong, but luckily all the coils were good. I would not have bet on that. The plate voltages run 236-245VDC.

  • I mean with the resistor strip.

  • Did it come like that from Stewart-Warner?
