  • @qix77 he's from new zealand....

  • @qix77 He is from New Zealand actually

  • Karl Urban nailed McCoy. I didn't like a lot of the other main cast as much, and the direction was really confusing with too many cuts with too much action. The storyline was ok, but of course the Spock/Uhura was thrown in just for the shock value. It was well performed though, so it's nice.

I like Star Trek: The Motion Picture though, so don't read too much into my rant.

  • @pryletoncyo If you watch the original series, it's hinted at that Uhura and Spock had a relationship.

  • @qix77 you can hear where he's from when he says "Suxties" ♥ U Karl

  • @qix77 They all nailed their roles. Even the original actors from the series agreed. Nichelle Nichols said it was like talking to her self 40yrs ago, Leonard Nimoy pretty much picked Zack himself, and Will Shatner was supportive of the new cast as well.

And Karl's from New Zealand >____>

  • @qix77 My boss is brittish but his accent is SO much like this. I still scratch my head sometimes when I hear him talk. I really can't tell the difference sometimes except for the guys from "Flight of the Concords". They are obvious.

  • C'mon SYLAR did a good job too! :p And Kirk was cocky and arrogant just like you'd expect. Bones WAS the best though, by far. And Cory Feldman! BRAVO as the main villain!!!! LOL just kidding. Eric Bana did a great job, but he did look a little like a romulan Cory Feldman. LMaO

  • @qix77 He's actually a New Zealander...just saying

  • He is originally from new zealand. thats why he sounds kinds australian and british

  • "Blunty Bones Karl Urban" LOL. Made my day.

  • @qix77 Thank you for handling yourself with a lot of class. Despite reiterations ad nauseum regarding Karl Urban's nationality and some very rude comments, you chose to withhold the discourtesy. That's rare to see on youtube.

  • @qix77 wow, ignorance is obviously this troll's god. I have no idea how karl OR blunty sound english, but they have a strong australian/NZ accent.

Also, the other actors did an amazing job. They weren't supposed to "nail" the character because they didn't want to make it an imitation nor a parody. You would've known this if you would've watched the extras on the dvd/bluray or if you are a star trek fan at all.

    /le end of le rant

    Also, Blunty, you rock <3!

  • I thought Karl Urban did the BEST job nailing the role of Dr. Leonard McCoy in The Star Trek Movie. DeForest Kelley would have been proud!

  • The Kiwi fruit is a North American invention, a large gooseberry given the name Kiwi by some marketing wiz who no doubt thought it sounded exotic.

New Zealanders are called "Kiwis", because of the Kiwi bird, an indigenous species which has become an international symbol of New Zealand.

  • @qix77 he's not british, he's a kiwi ^^

  • @qix77 he's from new zealand

  • its lame that he got so little screentime in the movie...MORE IN THE NEXT ONE JJ! I DEMAND MORE BONES!

  • Onya, mate. Grouse!!

  • Oh my - hubba hubba.

I do find Karl Urban to be so well spoken in his interviews. Easy to understand for me being an Aussie and him being a 'neighbour'. Just love his accent.

  • I don't know if you could hear but that woman talking on the phone is annoying and I could the phone ringing at 1:36

  • @qix77 from new zealand, bro. notice how "trek" becomes "trik"?

  • It's so strange to hear Karl speaking wth his accent... It's cool, but strange. I've seen him speaking American, Russian...

  • @qix77 He's from New Zealand, not the UK.

  • I love when Karl says "I don't know what he's done [J.J. Abrams] to make space or spaceships, look like that." LENS FLARE!!!

  • @qix77 lol he's not british, he's from new zealand.

  • @qix77 he is from New Zeland fool

  • HE. IS. GORGEOUS!

  • @qix77 haha you suck!

  • @qix77 NOT British you PLONKER!

I suggest you GET some new ears, if you CAN'T pick his accent as KIWI!!!

  • @qix77 he's actually a New Zealander

  • @qix77 not everyone is able to properly distinguish the different accents in the English language. Mr. Urban is in fact from New Zealand. Or a Kiwi as many would call it. Honestly I don't think I would have been able to name the origins of his accent if I hadn't known from the get go that he's from NZ.

  • @evilJy You COULD have pegged him as AUSSIE!!! He does live here now! Ex pat Kiwi. Like MOST kiwis, live in Oz!

    Hardly any left in NZ!

    Gut ja??

  • @ace69er he doesnt live in Oz dude . lives in around Auckland harbour

  • @imgonnakillyoo Yeah? I'd heard he lived here now. Maybe he HAS a place here too.

  • @ace69er he sure does!

  • Is he related to Keith Urban?

  • @dwhorrocks SLAP!

  • @qix77 Im ashamed. My apologies.

  • Lots of people saying Aussie in response to the chick that thought he was British... umm peeps he from New Zealand

  • Comment removed

  • @qix77 He's about as british as you, you thick cunt.

  • @qix77 How did you get British from an Aussie? Hehehehe... Then again, when people attempt Aussie accents, they end up with British/cockney. Always amusing.

  • @ThePurityOfEvil Hes KIWI! Like Russel Crowe or Sam Neil!!!

    ALL Adopted Aussies!

  • @ace69er Yeah... I tried to fix that.. Net issues ftl. This dude was also in Lord Of The Rings movies... I finally realised where I'd seen him before... and *double facepalm*ed myself. HAHA!! D'oh!!

  • He's a British Kiwi? XP

  • creativily?

  • @qix77 You seriously think that a British accent? You're from the US aren't you. He's actually from New Zealand.

  • @qix77 And He still isn't British, he is from New Zealand

  • @qix77 And He still isn't British

  • @qix77 He's NOT British. clod.

  • @Blunty3000 best reply ever.. just saying

  • ER...lunatic running the asylum? As a long time Trekkie, I know how THAT is, lol!

  • Comment removed

  • lol! killer hypo - spray!

  • I think that Bones is the sort of down to earth one in the trio with Spock and Kirk, and I think in real life he's also a little bit more down to earth than Chris and Zach. I think that says something about the casting as well, you know?

They all reflect their characters so well and have a great chemistry. I absolutely love all of the cast. :)

Also, it helps that they're all pretty hot.

  • Funny guy!

If you want a good ep for seeing the TOS trio's loyalty for each other, look up 'The Empath'.

  • @SweeneyGirl310593 Agreed! Very nice ep. . . .

  • Okay, that's an awful video title... o.o

  • He's got a great talent for accents. Listen to how thick that N. Zealand accent is! ^_^

  • I'm an actor, not a doctor.

  • @Dirtboy101 LMAO, Dirtyboy!

  • @MsPlumLover lol. its not dirty boy. its just dirt boy. like the stuff on the ground. lol.

  • @Dirtboy101 Ooh! Beg your pardon...I have been horribly hormonal watching all this KU stuff, lol!

  • @MsPlumLover haha it's fine! :P

  • @Dirtboy101 Brain and brain? WHAT IS BRAIN? :)

  • Best part of the movie

  • Loved Karl Urban as Dr McCoy. He was so funny!

  • it sucks he is married..........oh what the hell i love him.

  • I'm so happy he had a character all to himself! SO funny and so developed!...I love him as Eomer in LOTRs...he was fantastic...but this movie he showed more of his talent!!!

  • he was a hot caesar in xena :)

  • I adore this guy!!! He is so intense and his Bones will be as iconic as the old one...

  • He did an outstanding job. His portrayal, of the original endearing character "Bones", was thoughtful and brilliant.

  • I luv his accent, luv him period, a brilliant actor.

  • I thought he did an amazing job as Bones....and of course the fact that he is unbelievably hot is just a bonus!

  • @ wickedglamour - it's historically established - search at "wikipedia" for "Kiwi (people)" and Kiwi about the flightless birds (which became the national symbol for NZ)

  • he is fucking hot.

  • While no one can replace DeForest Kelley as Bones, I think Karl Urban did an excellent job of portraying a young Bones. He got pretty much the essence of McCoy down to a T.

  • someone tell me why his accent is called a "kiwi" accent......i know Karl is from New Zealand, but i'm still a confused American who gets even more confused when i see everyone say "kiwi accent".........=/

  • I believe a "kiwi" is just what you call someone from New Zealand. So you call it a kiwi accent.

Kiwi sound better than "New Zealandish" lol

  • @EJMUFC Choice bro! Ya wanna chup bro?

  • People from New Zealand are called 'Kiwis'. He's from New Zealand, so his accent is called a 'Kiwi' accent.

  • why aren't they called New Zealanders or something? why Kiwi?

  • Comment removed

  • @wickedglamour

See? There is little hope for your people. No wonder no1 likes Americans, because of their ignorant and insular mentalities. (nothing EXISTS outside the US. America IS the world)

Ironic i often have to teach Americans their OWN history to them!

  • @ace69er

I'm going to force myself to be polite here. I'm pretty sure plenty of people from South America, or Africa, or fucking Japan would also agree they have/had no idea why people from New Zealand are called Kiwi's. It's not my American ignorance or ego. I was politely asking why that was so that I WOULDN'T be ignorant, so excuse me for my curiosity. I can understand that you don't like America or Americans, but please, shut the fuck up and stop leaving angry racist comments.

  • @wickedglamour Oh any1 who disagrees with america is racist.

Well what would YOU call ignorance. I know why so many other nationalities get their nicknames from.

Kiwi, Pom, Aussie, Yank, Kraut I could go on...but I sha'n't.

Funny how WE in the 'outer world' seem to know more about others, than your lot...

  • @ace69er

No, if you disagree with an American, you have an opinion or an outlook. You are just an angry person apparently. And just because you are so knowledgeable on national nicknames doesn't mean the whole of the non-American population is as well. And sorry if I've got other more important things on my to-do list other than know national nicknames, like getting my car repaired so I can get to my job or worrying about my sick mother. Don't be so goddamn judgmental about nothing, asshat.

  • @wickedglamour Aww I'm sorry to hear about your mother. Mine isn't the best either. but I am NOT angry.

Just annoyed and disillusioned with peoples ignorance, thats all. I have to deal with it every day.

  • @ace69er

Yeah well, everyone has to deal with ignorance. You can either be helpful to the ignorant to help them not be so, or you can keep your mouth shut. Angry, disrespectful words only serve to make other people angry and lose respect for you.

  • @wickedglamour New Zealanders like to eat kiwi , duh !

  • @1993MovieMan

    lol......i prefer your answer.....=)

  • Urban is "okay" but sadly not HIM. I miss those amazing blue eyes of DeForrest Kelley a lot and that natural Southern guy he was.

  • this sucks, leonard mccoy is the primest personage, Rohan is dead!!!

  • This guy can be Solid Snake

  • I second that

  • He was absolutely wonderful as Bones and I can't wait for the next movie. I was so surprised how I, as a die hard Trek fan, accepted so easily these new actors in those beloved roles. Says a lot for everyone involved in the movie.

  • @shpshftr66 Hear hear. I 2nd that!

  • What a cutie. I really liked his portrayal of Bones. A little different from De Kelley's, but perhaps just because he's younger. Nice, fun interview.

  • OMG, he's a Trekkie! I'm thrilled! Mr. Urban is a fabulous Bones McCoy; the only glaring difference between the two (besides physicality like height and build) was that Karl Urban omits the "good ol' Southern boy" attitude that De Kelley brought to the role. That was fine with me, because I figure that attitude came along as the character aged. Also, this set of characters is more desperate than the original series characters ever was, so they can't be mellow.

  • I hear there's gonna be a sequel to this beyond awesome movie.

I really REALLY wanna see Urban wear a ring on his left pinky finger as sort of homage to DeForrest Kelley (he wore his mother's ring I think).

Plus it would look like of cool, perfect for bitch slapping Jim most painfully should the moment call for it :)

  • @Piriathy

You're correct. When De's mother past away from terminal cancer, she gave him her engagement ring to him. De wore it on his left pinky as a tribute to her.

  • @Piriathy ha ha yeah Jim routinely needs bitch slaps to keep him in line.

  • Whhhhhyyyyyy must he be so gorgeous? :D

  • Am I the only one that can see him and Chris Pine having a slap fight during takes, while JJ and everyone else just looks on shocked?

    Probably; I'm weird that way.

  • absolutely not

although i'm sure there would be some who would be like "oh how typical"

  • He looks like he can be Dforest Kellys son .

  • I did note in the movie he seemed to nail Kelly's mannerisms and speech patterns as Bones. I was surprised by that and gained a lot of respect for him as an actor.

  • Yah I hated him a lot before this movie. Now I can see that he really can act.

  • Everyone seemed thrilled about Mr. Nimoy picking his replacement in Zachary Quinto. Mr. Shatner seemed pleased with Chris Pine. I can't help but think that DeForest Kelley is immensely pleased (wherever he is) with his successor. I know I am.

  • gotta love that sequence with the hyposprays. those were excelent :D

  • Sooooo sexy. Is he married?

  • @drrtymac. Yes, sadly xD he married in 2004 and has a kid. I was so sad xDD

  • really liked his take on Bones, but he really has done a lot of work from Eomer in LOTR, Vaako in the The Chronicles of Riddick, plus he had light roles in the XENA series as Caesar

  • Don't forget Doom, Ghost Ship, and the Price of Milk.

Oh oh and Out of the Blue, The Irrefutable Truth About Demons, and... AND... ^___^ Love this man. So much.

  • OH MY LORD, I worship this man. *eyes bleed*

    I LOVE Karl Urban.

  • the whole time I was trying to figure out who he was in LOTR!

he gave a lot in that interview, in fact, all the interviews you did with the cast were brilliant

  • ...He was Eomer in LOTR.. Eowyn's brother...

  • Thanks :) Much obliged

  • you're welcome.. :P

  • andorian shingles!

  • His answer to the Kirk/Picard question was so diplomatic! lol.

  • can understand the english language - in opposite to other movie stars! Thanks to put it to Youtube!

  • Absolutely fantastic! Eomer, VAAKO, Reaper - always great and sexy! And always I

  • I didn't know he was a Kiwi! Ultimate win!

  • Karl Urban is so SEXY!!!!

  • I love Karl's slight accent. ^_^

    It's so good!

  • i hate that kirk picard question..... SISKO DAMMIT!!!!

  • Archer FTW!!!

  • @UncleMikeNJ MTE!! Everyone else is good. But Karl is superlative! He channels De so well!!

  • I had a few problems with the new movie, but this guy completely nailed the McCoy part. He was the only one I fully believed was the original character.

  • I so TA!!! He was Bones. I thought the other actors portrayed their predecessors very well, but Karl is Bones.

  • "Death and disease wrapped in darkness and silence!"

  • he was a good bones. if anyone else had played bones, i dont think i would have taken it seriously. XD

  • i just saw this again in IMAX and it was so awesome. it was alot of fun, but also a little heartbreaking to see what happened to Vulcan. can't wait for the DVD to come out.

  • Can't wait for BluRay to come out! =P

  • I had the honour of working with Karl in

Hercules and he's one cool Kiwi !

  • Karl Urban is awesome to begin with and he's even more awesome because he played Bones to a T! He was so great! I've seen the movie three times in theaters, I'm a big time trekkie and he blew me away with his performance!

  • Hahaha, I liked the creepy slow zoom in. XD

These interviews are good, but the editing drives me crazy...

  • I didn't notice the zoom till I read your comment. When you watch it again it's pretty funny (and sketchy.)

  • He was just terrific! Funny thing is, even though a big LOTR fan and think he is a great actor (see Out of the Blue a Kiwi film), he was so much Bones that I didn't recognize Karl. Didn't realize it until the credits. He nailed it!

  • urban was fantastic, he portrayed the /amazing/ heart beneath all the gruffness so well. he managed to get deforrest kelley's georgia accent, which would be a feat for any actor but even more amazing for him considering he was doing a basic american accent at the same time.

movie was fantastic, bones was my favorite in TOS, and in the new version.

  • I thought he was awesome as Bones.

    "I don't need a doctor, damnit I am a doctor!"

  • Or, "I'm a doctor not a technician", those lines just make me laugh so much

  • karl Urban is a good actor, but he did an awsome job and Bones I though it was DeForrest Kelley for a minute when I first saw it becasue of the way he was acting and talking

  • He's seems really nice!! He was awesome as Bones :)

  • He was in lord of the rings!!

He can be my doctor anyday!!lol.......no seriously.lol.

  • Oh, his natural drawl is sooo fine! And he's such a great pick to cover the post of Bones, left open by DeForest Kelley.

  • Urban was a great pick for Bones

  • He's the sexiest doctor I've ever seen..

  • omg i played laser tag against him about 1 hour ago!! cool lol

  • wow... VERY cool. : ) he's been my favorite actor for a while now - it'd be a pleasure to meet him, just for a chat... he seems so friggen down-to-earth. everybody who meets him says so... but the chances of me meeting him are quite slim as i live on the total opposite of the world in canada... :D

  • Its sooo good to have a fan acting in this movie. hes so Bones. But hes younger and sexy :) Love him, love the movie, love him acting as bones.

  • He did such an awesome job as bones really kelly would be proud

  • meh i didn't think he was that good.

  • First of all, I whole-heartedly agree with ImmortalAmethyst. I've been a Trekkie a long time, but have never really been a squealing fangirl for any particular character. Until now that is!

I really wish they would have given Bones a bigger part in this movie. The original series made a point of showing them more as a trio than just a duo. IF there is another movie (*crosses fingers*) I would love to see more banter between McCoy and Spock.

  • I liked the caracters exept spock he was more of a weird guy he should have a negitive face no offence

  • It's not often that my squealing fangirl side coincides with my Star Trek nerd side...!

He was a fabulous Bones! I know he worked with a voice coach, but he must have just mainlined old ST episodes to get all those little mannerisms spot on!

Oh... and he is also searingly HOT! *sigh*

  • dude, i totally forgot he had a kiwi accent!!! I LOVED HIM IN STAR TREK... i heard the voice and new 'that's bones' therefore there's Urban...

  • Verily he channelth De Forest Kelley! Considering he's a Kiwi (props to my New Zealander buddies) he did an excellent Southern man (I always thought that Dr. McCoy was from Georgia not Kentucky...oh I forgot, the movie was

    an alternate timeline....

  • DA-Yammm, He is FINE.

  • Dammit Jim, I'm Karl Urban not DeForest Kelley.

  • I'm kinda sad how there are "Trek-nazis" that hate this movie so much and can't even allow themselves to have fun with it.

Sure it's not perfect, but I for one think this movie is a "Star Trek" film.

  • "All I've got left are my bones". I was always wondering why Kirk called the doctor "bones". If it's a slang term medical doctors use for something please let me know. I was very sketical of the remake but they made it very entertaining.

  • "Bones" is short for "Sawbones" which was commonly used in, like, the 17th century for a ship's surgeon.

  • It's a play off of the word "sawbones." In TOS, that's where the nick-name came from. In this new movie, it could be said that it came from the "All I've got left are my bones" line or the example I mentioned above. :]

Either way, my hat's off to Karl Urban. He did a wonderful job. McCoy is my favorite character and I'm really attached to the way DeForest Kelley brought him to life, but Urban exceeded my expectations. I just wish we could have seen more of him in the film!

  • Big up Eomer!, I mean Karl Urban.

  • Hes dead Jim!

  • McCoy was awsome! He was probably my favorite character other than Spock and Sulu!

  • love the part when he injects things into chris pine.. LOL

  • BEST character in the new movie.

He nailed it on the head. I get the feeling he actually studied DeForest Kelly in his role. Even to the way he speaks and holds his mouth.

    Karl Urban is the MAN!!!

  • OMG Karl is sooo cute!!! gotta love the accent.

I think he was awesome as mccoy in the new movie. my favorite actually..

  • HE IS AMAZING AS DR. MCCOY! Nailed it! Im very happy that there are still fine actors today.

  • blunty can u send karl to my house please

  • karl please i want u in my house i want to ask u so many quitons

  • Karl Urban rocks, I've been following his career since his early Xena Warrior Princess days. LOTR, Star Trek, Xena--he's like the god of the nerds. Sexy kiwi accent too :D

  • LMAO "God of the Nerds" Awesome ^_^
