  • i played bari sax for this piece. Such an amazing piece of music

  • Great French Horn Parts, if I remember correctly had a few high notes. Great Job french horns during this performance, i remember playing 1st part, fun solo towards end.

  • @babysquirrel2992 The french horn parts for this work are pretty demanding. Especially Horns 1&2. That being said they are great parts.

  • @sfrenchhorn07 I play 1st horn and we play this music, it is pretty exhausting.

  • @JaspeRvNoort lol don't you just love the High parts where you consistently stay abouve an F# for like 6 whole measures? :P

  • @JaspeRvNoort I totally agree with you, I play 1st horn as well

We're performing it in my band, and I play piano. =]

  • me too :) it's pretty easy

  • previous comment deleted because you cannot stand the criticism, eh? how pathetic must you be, scoundrel?

  • played this as mark camphouse conducted our band. we had a complete practice session with his and it was the most amazing experience of my musical career. this song makes me tear up every time i hear it because of all the meaning and emotion he put into it. you should check out his new song anthem. we're playing it this semester.

  • When I interviewed Mr. Camphouse, he had mentioned "Anthem" to me as a work in progress. I have not had a chance to hear it live but it's a wonderful piece of music and it speaks right to his sensitivity and ability to connect with the human condition.

  • we play this in marching band its pretty epic

  • do you by chance go to Victoria, in Victoria. Texas?

  • @ViciousTeddyBear09 why yes yes i do i am a trumpet

  • I was at Sam Houston this past year and thought it was cool that you put an incredible piece like this into a marching show.

  • why thank you but i couldnt possibely ake all of the credit

  • i love this piece.

  • god the trombone solo at the beginning is hard. i remember many an hour practicing it with a tuner on my stand, almost drove me crazy

  • or maybe it was just the first trombone part, it was so long ago

  • Yup it's up there alright, fellow trombone player here

  • played this at music camp, and I always had trouble coming into my marimba part because I'd have struggled keeping track in the beginning.

  • this piece is so amazing, its hard to be in tune when playing the piccolo part especially that super F# towards in the middle

  • Everytime it hits 3:13, I get tears in my eyes!

  • Wow! We played so much music back in High School its crazy. We played this song at Willowridge and I played the Alto Sax 1 part. But I think we did the duet with Oboe and Sax. But sounds good. Brings back memories.

  • i loved playing this song, its great.

  • HAHAH!!! i love this song, we just went to state competition and got a silver for this song. we have a band of 22 kids =P

  • I played this when I made district band.

The time changes are a realy bitch but it sounds amazing.

    :)

Tenor sax is where its at.

  • I played this piece in 2004 with my high school band and played it at a state conference. It was amazing. I played the flute solo in the beginning :) and Mark Camphouse conducted. This song was soo moving-it brought us to tears. Absolutely love it

  • Quite impressive and good.

    I don't like the part during 4:23.

they played wrongly coz not counting? or the song was meant to be like this?

  • I liked this preformance but the only thing I didn't like was the entrences were off in the beginning and were really bad but over all good!! I play french horn and its so fun for us! we finally have a peice for us!! good job to this band

  • we just played this song a couple times last year, but very pretty. :) i play clarinet. haha. just thought i'd put that in bc everybody else kinda did, lol.

  • Is this a high school or college band? either way props to everyone in the band. Its balanced and full sounding and is never overpowering. Well done

  • Last year.. we sight read it, but we threw it 'out and played another piece that I can't name for our spring concert. I liked it though.

  • I love the bassoon/alto sax duet at the beginning

  • My band is playing this too, im a French Horn

  • hi david. lol.

  • my band is playing this too and im a french horn.

  • Personally I think Watchman Tell us of the Night trounces this one. Camphouse has done better work. Still this piece is nice, always a pleasure to play a Camphouse piece.

  • my high school band played this song (i played bass clarinet). it is such an amazing piece.

  • Thats funny, my high school is learning this song and I play bass clarinet.

  • In my opinion this is an amazing piece, i love it.

  • My son played the alto sax in the duet. This was his junior year.

  • That's great you had an experience playing the piece. So far as how it reflects upon Ms. Parks, I can share the following comment from Mr. Camphouse:

  • I just got this feeling, What do I do if Mrs. Parks does not like the piece that I wrote honoring her? What if she doesn't like contemporary music? All of the sudden this horrible feeling, came over me, and it wasn't too long into the piece at all to where I turned around, just out of the corner of my eye and looked her way and I saw a tear. And she was very, very moved by the piece, and I just can not tell you what that meant to me to see her moved by the piece I wrote honoring her.

  • This was Mr. Camphouse's recollection of a performance he and Ms. Parks were both in attendance at. She was very grateful and enjoyed the piece very much.

    All the best !!

  • i just played this tonight at an honors band festival. i play alto sax (: great solo part, i love the bassoon with it.

  • my high school band plays this in a few weeks. im a freshmen flute player and i love it!! best piece weve played!

  • My band is about to play this in a few weeks. I didnt really like the song until I understood what it was about. Great piece!

  • my older brother played this his freshmen year in high school... i would do anything to play this song... its my all time favorite wind song

  • It's ironic my brother and I both played this song in high school together. And we are both in the Cavaliers. He was the robot in 2006.

  • thats my dream to march cavies... did you march in 08??

  • No. I marched 07, my brother aged out in 06. I'll march again in 2010 for my age out year

  • hm thats cool i think the cavaliers show in 09 is going to be called ninja im just saying

  • this is a wonderful peice, just breathtaking.

  • Woah

    someones got tympani chops.

beautiful piece, my college band is playing it this symester

  • I absolutely adore this piece i played it in my first year with abraham darby band and it was ingredable. I love it!!!!!!

  • i absolutely love this peice. i had a solo in it last year for honor band

  • it sounds all beautiful and we played this last year we got straight 1's I hope yall did the same in contest.

  • wow that was excellent, though I wish your bassoonist had played out a bit more for the duet, it is such a beautiful part.

  • I also wish he had played the correct rhythms, but I let him slide there and he made up for it in the recording session!

Thank you for the kind comments!

  • I noticed that, even if it was just cutting a quarter note a little short. I'm actually playing the first chair bassoon part of this on Thursday in a high school symphonic competition, I envy your brass section as it at least seems like they have an inkling of intonation. Excellent tympanist as well.

  • Really on the timpani? Did you listen well? Most rolls are way to fast and articulated. A roll is simply a sustain, not a pulsated rhythm. And the intonation (whew) could have been much MUCH better as well.

  • awesome =)

i iup when they game to forest park.

  • We had a great time at FPHS, many thanks!

Hopefully you enjoyed our 2nd of 3 performances of Rosa this spring!

  • Sounds nice!
