I agree with MuSicNvrsLeEpS97 , that's why at the end some student says "he is waiting for someone" something like this. He's waiting Kanade to come back from death again.(my thoughts still)
There seems to be a plot hole. Kanade supposedly received Otonashi's heart, which could obviously only happen after he died. This tells us that Kanade had to die after Otonashi. However, when Otonashi arrives in the afterlife, Kanade is already there, and the characters suggest that she has been for some time. Unless there's some weird "time doesn't flow normally here" situation, or Otonashi's soul avoided Purgatory for a few years, something is amiss.

So, Otonashi didn't have to go to Purgatory, because at least he found a sense to his life, but he went there only to realize Kanade's dream. He went to Purgatory a lot of time after his death because at beginning he couldn't go there. If he were there is only thanks to Kanade.

I'm not one for commenting on videos, particularly not OST's of anime, but this is a gorgeous piece, not just in itself but in what it's about, and and how it does so. It seems to go through Kanade's heart throughout her life, starting out strong and vibrant, then slowly getting weaker and darker, until something (Otonashi's heart) allows it to be vibrant again, for a short while. It's quite amazing the level of thought that went into this.
Does anyone realize that this is the song that plays when Otonashi decides to donate his organs to another person? Kanade is the one that recieved his heart, and this music suits it very well.

@7bladeschnieder its my theory. otanashi died peacefully. his amnesia caused him to bug into the after life school and maybe it takes a long time for that to happen. yuri and the members of the sss had bad lives with regret and got in earlier than otanashi. kanade regretted not being able to thank the person who extended her life. probably those with regret get in much faster into the after life school than a person who has their life fullfilled and has amensia like otanashi.
@7bladeschnieder but theres a possibility some members of the SSS died later than otanashi. however like i said, those with regret get into the after life school much faster than a bugged fullfilled soul like otanashi. i hope u get the gist of what im trying to get too. its complicated really, the series has yet to explain this inconsistency. i wish they would make season 2. i really like this anime a lot.
@Danerd9 I think there's a chance that God/Universe/Whatever deliberately sent Otonashi there to free those who refused to be move on. Almost like a messiah - someone of absolute goodwill. This is confirmed by the short clip in the OVA in which Otonashi is the student council president and offers help to a student with regret.
This reminds me so much of Final Fantasy 9, it's part of why I love this OST. A lot of tracks feel very FinalFantasy-esque. I love it for what it is, as well. So many nice tracks.

After Otonashi became an organ donor. His heart was donated to IRL Kanade, who needed it to live. It was likely a coincidental and Kanade was grateful to the person who donated their organ for her to receive. She regrets not being able to thank him properly and feels bad for it. So she ends up in the position where she eventually meets him. It's genius story telling.

@7bladeschnieder its my theory. otanashi died peacefully. his amnesia caused him to bug into the after life school and maybe it takes a long time for that to happen. yuri and the members of the sss had bad lives with regret and got in earlier than otanashi. kanade regretted not being able to thank the person who extended her life. probably those with regret get in much faster into the after life school than a person who has their life fullfilled and has amensia like otanashi.

@7bladeschnieder but theres a possibility some members of the SSS died later than otanashi. however like i said, those with regret get into the after life school much faster than a bugged fullfilled soul like otanashi. i hope u get the gist of what im trying to get too. its complicated really, the series has yet to explain this inconsistency. i wish they would make season 2. i really like this anime a lot.

@Danerd9 I think there's a chance that God/Universe/Whatever deliberately sent Otonashi there to free those who refused to be move on. Almost like a messiah - someone of absolute goodwill. This is confirmed by the short clip in the OVA in which Otonashi is the student council president and offers help to a student with regret.

This reminds me so much of Final Fantasy 9, it's part of why I love this OST. A lot of tracks feel very FinalFantasy-esque. I love it for what it is, as well. So many nice tracks.

They should make a S2 of Yuzuru Otonashi and Kanade Tachibana continuing from where the anime left off.
(Below is a little rant against the alternate ending)
Not the alternate ending, I think that was a bad way to end the anime.

@Galukxy Yeah, that would be cool with the others, or they could make another anime with roughly the same name and continue on from that point with just those two characters. Would be awesome to see though. Just the animes need to be more than 13 episodes long. The smaller anime series though seem to usually be the better ones - As shown by angel beats.

After Otonashi became an organ donor. His heart was donated to IRL Kanade, who needed it to live. It was likely a coincidental and Kanade was grateful to the person who donated their organ for her to receive. She regrets not being able to thank him properly and feels bad for it. So she ends up in the position where she eventually meets him. It's genius story telling.
