@Professortorcoolguy1 Yes Sir! My sound designer and I closely collaborated on the sound design. Her taste in films is identical to mine so she already knew what type of genre film this was, we watched a lot of "The Shining" and "Eraserhead" for reference.
@UnbornChild Well, you're very talented at making dark ambient tracks. In fact I liked it so much I'd probably listen to it in CD form if I could get it. The sounds reminded me a lot of Lustmord's sounds.
@Professortorcoolguy1 That's quite a compliment there! I'll let her know your kind thoughts. Oh you have to watch "Eraserhead", It's completely up your alley, especially after reading your dream-based apocalyptic story. It's very industrial, dark, lonely, creepy, surreal and shot entirely in black + white. The sound design is incredible & you'll see where the basis of inspiration for this piece came from. Check out the majority of David Lynch's work, it's a world I often get influenced by.
@Professortorcoolguy1 You're watching off YouTube? I actually found a cheap, new copy of it on Amazon, totally worth it if you're into surreal, experimental abstract filmmaking. Plus it's a major cult film that propelled David Lynch's career and is still played in cult cinema theatres.
@UnbornChild See, the unfortunate reality is this: I have absolutely no money to spend, and the money I DO have I'm not going to spend until I can have a ready source of income.
Believe me, I'm willing to spend money, it's just I have none to spend. I'm broke.
@Professortorcoolguy1 You can't deny it's a fine piece of cinema that catapulted Lynch's career. What amazes me is that it's a film like THAT that did it. It's not conventional at all, it's very bizarre and most people don't "get it", yet it's what did it for him. He has the luxury that most artists desire, the ability to work in mainstream Hollywood (with budgets) being able to pull off UNmainstream projects that appeal to the art house/indie/surreal cinema world. That's beautiful to me.
@UnbornChild Yes, freedom of expression without a corporate puppeteer is a beautiful thing...
However I noticed that a lot of people were discussing different interpretations of it, and some say there is no interpretation, that it's just there for the sake of awesomeness. It's not exactly a political cartoon scrawled with labels, but all it seems to be to me is the life of a neurotic individual as seen by the individual.
...except for the umbilical cords...those are nasty.
@Professortorcoolguy1 I think that's the point of any art. The point of surreal is the dream-based content. I only said that because people point out "Eraserhead" as if Lynch was just being weird for the sake of being weird.
@UnbornChild I've seen films that are just weird for weirdness's sake. Eraserhead isn't exactly one of those. There's a point...I'm just too dumb to figure it out...
@Professortorcoolguy1 Well don't stress it.. all art is much more about the experience than the "getting it". Just be immersed in the world of it...watch it, live it, cool. I know that for this film I made that we're leaving comments on that a whole lot of people didn't "get it", and they've told me that. But it doesn't upset me, because that's not the point.
@UnbornChild Well, it was plenty enjoyable. Being someone who puts so much importance in dreaming I understood a lot more in it...buteventheniwouldn'treallycareit'sjustawesome.
If you can't find meaning, watch it again without trying to find any. That's always a safe, fun thing to do.
@UnbornChild except, I found Eraserhead genuinely disturbing...and there was more than one place that legitimately scared me...Imma go watch Zeotrope again. It's like going through the Ludovico treatment. Except intriguing.
I don't know what just happened, but it was awesome. :]

Like I said on DA, it's a brilliant little piece.
Just out of curiosity, did you make the soundtrack?

I've seen The Shining, but not Eraserhead...

@UnbornChild Please...music is one of the best mediums of art to enjoy.
Well, it was more black and white themed rather than dreamed...
I'll go watch it now. It's split into nine parts...

@Professortorcoolguy1 That's always an issue. I guess watching them on YouTube is fine then. It's all about the story over anything else of course.

@UnbornChild I am in the middle of it and deeply disturbed, sir.

@Professortorcoolguy1 Glad you like ;)

@UnbornChild It's not that I like it...it's just so weird and unsettling it's addicting whether I like it or not...
I thought Zeotrope was weird, now this takes the cake. Every last crumb of it.

@Professortorcoolguy1 Well interpretations are interpretations...and that's the beauty of the thing. It's so open for that.

@Professortorcoolguy1 Yep, I'm sure disturbing the audience was part of Lynch's goal, and that's a valid one.

@UnbornChild Well he succeeded.
