I'm still cursing the fact that my parents didn't have me a few years earlier. Used to hear so much about this programme, but couldn't watch it because it was usually on past my bedtime.
Only really had a chance to get into it during its final years.
Why won't they bring it back the material they would have mp expenses police shooting tax my good there's more material now than ever we need it I need it the world needs it missing you loads spitting image
Instead, an American company, Sid and Marty Krofft (makers of rather low, low budget children shows) did their own version called D.C. Follies, which was set in a bar (a pub) in Washington, D.C.. Awful puppets. Bad writing. It was just a big rip off of Spitting Image. However, from 1983 - 1986, there was a 30 minute late night show called Radio 1990, which aired in the U.S. on the USA Network. They would show clips from Spitting Image.
@kers80bhp, in the 1980's, Spitting Image had three television specials in the United States, which aired on NBC, and hosted by David Cook. It was fantastic! I was hoping that it would become a series over here, but it never happened.
I'm so fucked up i genuinely thought these were puppet cartoon characters when i was little?? it was honestly my favourite show. i could reel off the names of the entire tory cabinet when i was 5.
it would be fuckin grand to see spitting image remade in this time. I think TV will start needing something like this again, given the times we live in.
@MrZxantraxx Yes, it's The Smiths 'How Soon is Now' - You know, the one that goes 'I am the son & heir (or sun & air), with a shyness that is criminally vulgar'. Crap, now you made me have to go get my Morrissey fix...
@beaverranchboy spitting image not scary to me when i was a kid i kinda like this show because all of their faces looks gay like ronald reagen he likes to screw uk country and blowing up heaven and hell by using nukes that was so funny
I used to be so scared of those puppets(initially I only knew them from the Land of Confusion video), but now I'm older I absolutely love them! Why did they stop making this show? I think it can be a huge succes again!
@JenteBones I know! It's absolutely insane that they're not bringing it back, because if it could be so amazing with very few people at the time to ridicule, how would they manage with the increasingly stupid celebrities of today? A Spitting Image - Justin Beiber rip off, and I could die a happy woman! :)
They killed portuguese Sitting Image after 18 years of its premier and 15 years continuosly running. In a moment the country is sinking into bankrupcy, censorship found its way back. Lets hope dictatorship does not return too.
You know, i|I}f yousearching for}|wanting|in need of}| need| want} a good site to host your pictures, try w ww . freeimage house . com, that's what I go to|where I go to} all the time for my hosting. Nice video!
I'd love to see the likes of these people on a new version of spitting image if it ever comes out:

Brilliant. Could not wait till Sunday night to watch it. It is true that you knew all the politicians then. The programme did have a significant effect on on joe public and I reckon it would not be allowed in it's original political format (censored) as this is not a free country any more.
I am an American, and I cannot thank you enough for placing this video up...I had forgotten the name of this show. It has been so many years since I have seen it last. I asked all friends about it, and they knew what I was talking about, but we all forgot the name. Spitting Image...thank you again!!! It should be brought back. It's ashame that it was cancelled in the first place...
@Filotimos lol then stop watching the special! its called the best ever spitting image because thats what the show was called when this guy was recording it!
If Spitting Image was around now I wish they did Obama, George W. Bush, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Nick Clegg, Kay Burley, Adam Boulton, Alaistair Campbell, and the most overrrated Cheryl Cole. This was the most funniest comedy shows taking a hilarious swipe at Politicians and famous personalities of the 80's I loved this show.
You know I used to watch this in the 80's. I've been looking all over for one sketch that stands out in my memory. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be here...
It involved the Stallone/Neilson divorce and the two of them arguing over the custody of Neilson's Breasts.
Anyone remember that? Anybody have a copy they can post?
My favorite was with Leonard Nimoy auditioning for Hamlet where he kept breaking into Spockisms.... 'to be or not to be, that is illogical captain; to be or not to beam me up Scotty' etc etc!!
@htownmatt I agree but the cost of each show was just horrendous, the bbc budget, massive though it is would not sanction any more shows. They can pay weather girls, £100K, presenters and so called "managers" half a million quid, pay huge pensions, waste money moving to Manchester, pay a guy who lives in America and commutes to UK millions to oversee the move to Manchester but the BBC cannot put the money into good programs.
What Edwina Currie claims, demonstrates the decadence of british politics during the Thatcher era (and after probably). Hoping you appear in a show like spitting image is something for people with no sense of honour and dignity left. Their motto: just make an appearence no matter how ugly it may be.
@DrBPhD I suppose it is the old adage of any publicity is good publicity. Like the disgusting antics of these so called WAGs of famous footballers and film stars. The are just famous for being famous, morally corrupt low lifes.
Not weird, but probably fiddly to operate as each puppet was controlled by two people; one person controlled one arm and the mouth and the other controlled the other arm.

Its a very British form of Humour, understandable how a lot of Americans wouldn't get it. I think in the 80s it was unacceptable for the Reagan constituency to be openly criticized at all.
Oh it was acceptable to criticize reagan. I personally liked the lil bits of the show the aired in the US. But I was a kid and I definitely got it cause I read Mad Magazine and they always mess with everybody especially politicians that was honestly how I even knew about the Gary Hart Scandal. lol
ya, I remember being young and getting up in the middle of the night and it would be on TV, i could never go back to sleep, this show was really creepy
In Australia we had "the rubbery figures" who, sadly, never had a show of their own but were a regular feature on a weekly comedy sketch show in the 90's. People have cried out for more ever since; they still go to *galleries* to see the puppets!
Maybe the bigwigs who own our media don't *like* regular people to be interested in politics and to know what's going on; sure as anything it's not becuase of lack of public interest.
(although there's one particular bigwig that owns the best part of our media as well as yours, and most certainly wouldn't approve of this kind of rampant free-thought)
Who the hell thought it was a good idea to use Ant and Dec to introduce this thing? They've got the political nous and media analysis skills of a plate of mushy peas. Christ.
How good would it be to bring this back now?, the characters we have in the world today would be hillarious, George bush, bin laden, Kim Jong Ill, ahmedinejad, Obama, Chavez the list is endless.
@kivster it would be great to see it back but it wouldn't be the same...back then it was totally new to take the piss out of political figures and serious broadcasters...now it happens all the time. Also, the people the show focused on usually had a rod up their arse, these days people are a bit more laid back.
@kivster We got them in France in a similar show called "Les guignols de l'info" (guignols of TV News) and believe it or not, it's not as great now as it used to be then (it began in the late 1980's) because they seem to be more conventional since we got that Berlusconi look-alike N.Sarkosy (bloody stinker!)
im looking for the full 'steve interestin davis sketch' cant seem to find it :@ lol

*Why don't we have this now!*

Whats the music at the begining? thanks.

Lets all campaign to bring back Spitting Image..

@kivster The Lefties that made this show are too much in love with all the statist that run the world for that to happen these days.

@kivster it would be great to see it back but it wouldn't be the same...back then it was totally new to take the piss out of political figures and serious broadcasters...now it happens all the time. Also, the people the show focused on usually had a rod up their arse, these days people are a bit more laid back.

@kivster They would probably be arrested these days. Or investigated. LOL.
