BTW, the sad ending would have looked A LOT better if they had drawn the girl's picture better than they did. Her face looks too much like an old woman's.
I actually prefer the sad ending than to the happy one. Sad endings are "sometimes" better because they teach you that life is not always about good things & tragedies can happen.
The sad ending is better because the music is very strongly composed by Yuzo, that matches the night scene. And I see that losing her is not necessarily a bad thing in life.
Losing a loved one can be a very harsh impact on any person, this goes for family members as well. I have seen incidents where people developed depression after losing someone and had to go on medication for several years because of it. Something similar like this happened to me only that the girl "wasn't real" and I refused to go on meds or seek counseling. Its a long story, but yeah, love can hurt at times and it can be very hard to overcome the pain.
Funny, I scoured the whole game I could not get to do the maze, but I won after two weeks trying to get through the maze, when I won the Naoko had died and I did not even know the second ending
Hahahaha I only accept the earlier statement. Don't tell lies and turn your words around later Third World boy. I don't like that. A deficiency is still a deficiency including possible multiple-personality disorder - you just have to be brave and continue living.
PS Be a good boy and go play soccer instead. How's it coming along for the national squad? Not chosen?
@e69alpha When you fight the master, if you let the wall come down before killing him, it'll kill the girl, thus getting you the bad ending. If you beat him before the wall comes down, you'll save the girl, and get the good ending.
You see the wall in the background scenary wich's coming down? there's a girl there, and if you fail to save her before the wall comes down and crushes her,you get the bad ending. if you rescue her before she dies, you get good ending.
WAIT A SECOND!!!, there are two endings!!!, you see at the walls there are some kinds of holes, where if you hit it, it would temporarily stop the ceiling from crushing your'e fiance, and you were able to save her, and if you are not able to stop the ceiling then the fiance is dead
Ouch. The bad ending is just... sad. Unfortunately, my game was part of a pack on the computer (sega smash pack) and it was glitched (first version of the game - Super Shinobi) so I never got to fight the final boss
I did not know she could die.:/ You have thought, going through all those monsters and in the end, Shinobi unable to save her. I quit to end the game. :o lol!
Actually the bad ending is a good ending as Joe Musashi, on standing on the cliff and picturing Naoko's ugly face in the night sky, is actually relieved to be rid of her and he knows he can do better.
The sad music is only played for dramatic effect on what he is supposed to feel, not what he actually feels. Even the Sega staff is just as upbeat as Joe is.
Seriously people call me a sadist or whatever but I like the bad ending even better. I find it more artistic and poignant, though his girlfriend's face in the sky is shit.
Oh yeah, me too. When I was a kid, I used to watch my brother playing. And I always loved the bad ending. It's sad and the song is so beautiful. Not like he(or me) could get the good ending, though. XD This is the first time I saw it. And I still prefer the bad one.
Oh man, you reminded me of SALAMANDER bad ending for MSX. It is much more beautiful than the good ending when you plug NEMESIS-2 in the second slot and play SALAMANDER.
Despite this end boss being extremely difficult, he was easy compared to the orginal Shinobi's final boss. In the original game, one hit killed you and the boss went through multiple forms: leaping w/shields, encircling tornadoes, etc.
The sad ending almost brang me to tears. I use to have this game for my sega, but my little sister used it as a frisbee on the balcony of my aunts apartment building, and she accidently whaled it off the balcony (she`s pretty stupid eh? I know).
yeah it may been 80's but it was cool then an motherfucker there storyline was great and the charater design if I had to remake this game I would not change almost nothing.
In the original Japanese Mega Drive version of Revenge Of Shinobi (bka Super Shinobi), there were credits of the game makers shown during the ending sequence.
Sad ending makes me nostalgic :( its so sad, i mean, to me nobody deserves such a sad ending, Musashi made the whole way to Zeed just to see Naoko Being killed? i rather the good ending, both makes me nostalgic, Great games!
many people dont know that if you hit the hole near the wall, it stops the ceiling from coming down for 5 seconds, i used that and constantly hitting him to get the good ending without many things. oh and if get low on health, just use the last ninja magic to blow yourself up.you might lose a life but you get full health and still keep a ninja magic.
shit!! i couldn't pass the damn thing with the good ending just didn't get there with the power shurikjens stuff wihout that it's impossible!!!! hahaha got frustrated !!! but yeah shitty ending where's the kiss?
you know this was a very great game I never beat it but this series had a great storyline it had great charaters and part 2 had 2 endingds to it both was great.they need to have an sequel sega genesis series not the ps2 version.
Really both of them were great.dramatly the bad ending would give way to part 3 but the good ending would show that he still must stop the Zeed clan any way.
I agree. Most people who played probably don't know that the "bad ending" is completely avoidable. If Naoko gets crushed to death while you're trying to kill that damn f***ing HARD Ninja Master, deliberately get yourself killed... and on your next life, she'll be alive again. Crazy, huh?
Joe fought everyone from Godzilla to Batman in Revenge of Shinobi, making it a cavalcade of copyright infringement. Spider-Man was in there too, but that was a Marvel-licensed appearance (for reasons I still don't completely fathom).
One of my favorite enemies in the game was the ninja nun hidden in the city. It doesn't really have anything to do with Marvel Comics, or the conversation in general. I just thought that character was really amusing!
She is even more amusing when she walks down the pits or jumps into them after 'unmasking her true identity' (a repetitive surprise which has gone old).
To make it easier to beat go to options and select 00 shrikens and keep the arrow there for 10 seconds or so and the 00 becomes an infinity sign and use as many as you like :)
I've finished this game but not with the girl alive. The maze section gets annoying & the final boss takes too long to destroy. What I found most difficult is judging the jumps from dinghy to dinghy. Other than that it's a fairly easy game with unlimited shurikens & enough lives in tow ( the metal factory level is the place to acquire extra lives by the first conveyer belt )
Ahh, what a great ending (the second one ;)). I managed to see it on hard mode with infinite shurikens. By taking gazillions of extra lives at the car factory, I could use the kamikaze special many times to keep damaging the Neo Zeed dude over and over without dying. The girl was very close to death though, sitting down when Neo Zeed was killed. Nice video :D.
another thing i've always wounderd if the end boss is some monster/devil/demon or what ever he is all the bad guys in this game are humans & hes a beast? & in the ps2 shinobi most of the bad guys are all insects & monster & the ninjas are the only normal bad guys any wayz i sometimes still think to myself that shinobi & streets of rage & golden axe if the was film of any of these games i'm most likely dreaming here.
does any one know about the cheat in which you must pull out the alterd beast cart while the system is powerd up, then put in the R. of Shinobi cart then hit reset...it enabled you to play the japanse version of the game. NO Dude...FOR REAL..It sounds insane, but i read it IN EGM back in the day and they did warn you that it was bad for the system, but i tried it and it worked.
I got it from online recently. Well, in the Japanese version you sure got to fight with the real Godzilla instead of a bone dinosaur exhibit am I right?
Honestly, i only remember playing the GodZilla boss...Though, the copy of the game i had was purchased on the day of its release. Early US versions may have had the OG Goadzilla boss. Peace
this shinobi 3, streets of rage, golden axe series are still my all time classics. I remember not able to complete this game till a few years later cuz of the maze level was so hard then when i finally get to the end it took me quite a while to beat him. I dont know about everyone else but i've noticed everytime you kill neo zeed you can see somthing flying off him while hes dieing does anyone know what it is i've always wounderd.
Revenge of the Shinobi is one of the better games on Megadrive (but it isn't as good as Shinobi III), but i wouldn't recommend X-men Mutant Apocalypse or Marvel Super Heroes to any fan of Shinobi.
Why not? I am talking in terms of platform action titles worth picking up. You obviously missed the context and also, cannot appreciate Capcom-made Marvel games that are excellent.
Maybe those crappy Western Activision and LJN Marvel titles should appeal to your warped taste better.
And I still think Shinobi III cannot compare to the original. There are people who share the same sentiments here too. The Shinobi games in turn, cannot compare to Ninja Ryukenden games for the 8-bit Famicom.
Finally I saw the ending of this game. Managed to play this for 15 years without being able to get through the final boss, not killing the girl i mean. The music still gives me the chills.
Wow I see your preferences. Actually if you like action platform games you might like to also try X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems for the Super Nintendo where you fight bad guys and do Street Fighter motion combos on them from the same interface.
Sure. The bad ending is when you destroy Neo Zeed too late - the ceiling had by then touched the ground and had crushed the girl to death, while the good ending shows up when you manage to destroy Neo Zeed before that happens.
I prefer giving you the bad news before the good ;)
Yuzo Koshiro attempts to intensify the emotions of sorrow and eternal loss in the bad ending and in the good ending, his piece touched deeply on the comfort and the longing love of someone in a lost-and-found encounter.
Reminds me of the bad ending to Sonic 2, and Silver's ending in 06.

I think she is supposed to be a ghost... Which would have worked if she was shown at all beforehand. But the scene still works for me.
In that scenario the revived Zeed won in his own way. Joe most likely even commited seppuku after that! (So I don't think that's the "canon" ending.)

I always thought it was funny that the final boss of this ninja gang you were battling against, used his hair as a weapon lol.

Oh yes haha, but in Japan even something as ordinary as a hairpin can also be used as a weapon to kill.

Since i dont know this game i was wondering what triggers the bad and the good ending?
Veskanderrai 5 years ago
Sure. The bad ending is when you destroy Neo Zeed too late - the ceiling had by then touched the ground and had crushed the girl to death, while the good ending shows up when you manage to destroy Neo Zeed before that happens.

AAh yes now i see it. I thought at first the white stuff was a curtain ^^.

Hahahaha now that I looked at it again, I kinda agree with ya =D

I prefer giving you the bad news before the good ;)
Yuzo Koshiro attempts to intensify the emotions of sorrow and eternal loss in the bad ending and in the good ending, his piece touched deeply on the comfort and the longing love of someone in a lost-and-found encounter.
