Well not all great artists are good with music, (I don't think Da Vinci ever wrote a song) but we do know that Romans had access to all musical styles from the far North of England to the Euphrates so no matter what their lost music sounded like they would not have suffered from a lack of it.
Since we know little of ancient Roman music, how can anyone say that it was "terrible"? We do know that Roman art and architecture were wonderful, and Europeans didn't rediscover how to equal these until the Renaissance. The notion of a people with great art and bad music makes no sense. I'll give the ancient Romans benefit of the doubt.
Fragments of ancient music exist. Synaulia studied these, replicated ancient instruments, and also studied folk music that descended from ancient music, as it contains elements that date back centuries. No one really knows what ancient Roman music sounded like. Synaulia takes what we do know and combines this with imagining. Much of what they perform as a result is lovely. 12 seconds ago
marone, the Romans had terrible taste in music... Primitive, no rhythm or structure. It's wasn't until Europeans rose from the dark ages to enlighten music.
Historically, Romans were not known for their music of all things and during the time were notorious for that across the ancient world.. This is possibly why today little is know of Roman music (out of sight, out of mind).
At least Rome wan known for great it's civilization.
@Jow45metal If I remember correctly the Romans inherited much of their art, architecture, mythology, and early warfare from the Greeks. Why would the Romans not have inherited some of the music of the Greeks?
Altought instruments are propalply genuine I dought that they made shitty music that nopody wanted to hear in angient Rome any more than today. This shit has not played in the Ceasars palace.
Amazing! I had no idea that they had recovered documented songs from Ancient Rome. Did they find the scrolls of music in an ancient private library in Pompeii or Herculaneum? Who interpreted the scrolls of music?
sicuramente non era cosi.fredda come giaccio.

@DoubleDizzle1
Ancient Greek music is much more known and is way more complex and appreciable than roman music.
