PS3 Slim Disk Drive Sounds

i've had a ps3 for about two weeks and so far it froze 4 times. once on uncharted 2, twice on heavy rain, and once on la noire. should i return it? (ALL BRAND NEW GAMES)

When i put my ps3 on a table, something inside the ps3 rattles. It sounds like something is loose in the disc drive. Is it normal?

this is perfectly normal, depending on the game that your using like my just cause 2, as soon as it starts it does the seeking for about 30 seconds and its loud but, its nothing to worry about

It's also possible that my slim was already like that from the start because I only noticed the weird sound when I started playing my slim without volume

if you guys have the version of BO that makes your ps3 noisy then stop playing untill they fix it... otherwise it will fuck your PS3 bluray... there are some version of black ops that works smoothy but the most versions ruin your ps3 so i recomend stop playing BO untill they fix it...

there is nothing about that its the reading noise it probably comes when u get a slim model cause it is thin and lighter so it cannot make noise slow down it happens with fat model of ps3 too cause it is fat and has a lot space than slim so it make u think that there is o noise but when u open ur ps3 an play games u can hear it

I play Black Ops and there's this noise "Bwwwv Bwwwv Bwwwv!" Over and over again!

It keeps going never stops but the game works perfectly fine. I hate this noise, it's annoying and depressing.

The only solution is to turn the volume up and put my headset on to draw the noise out.

I don't mind if it makes a little Boise but nun when I start and play black ops it's so much louder and it stops and then does it again u get used to it but it's annoying sometimes. And when I play black ops and only multiplayer it will be fine no noise then it freezes and only the Internet is working that mite be my hard drive but I really don't have any problems with it. I wish u could save the games to the hard drive without jailbreacking

Mines does that too with Ratchet and Clank...When I just barely enter into a new level it does it for a while and then when I am selecting weapons and gadgets etc. But I have no problems with it whatsoever.

What i think thats happening is that you guys bought the new version early.Maybe back when u got it sony didnt know that there was a problem with it.Now that you can see if theres a problem sony will probably make new systems that wont be loud or something.I would just call sony or return it if u have warrenty and get a new ps3 slim.

I agree i don't like the slims disk drive mechanism to much noise. it sounds like it's having a hard time reading the disk only when loading or having to transition. I just hope I don't get another YLOD!

yep thats the noise I get. But I would say it is irritatingly loud but it does stop doing it once you get past a certain area in the game and it no longer seeks. It just seems odd as the phat ps3 never made this noise. The slims sounds like a dreamcast LOL.

My 120gb slim always likes to spin the disc very fast , then stop, then spin, then stop over and over. This tends to happen when Ive just entered a new area in a game or the beginning of a level but then it stops making any noise and carries on as normal until I reach the next area that sets it off. Its strange because its not like it only does it for afew seconds, it does it for afew minutes. My old 40gb never did this.

well, if your vents are dirty, it could create a problem, but if you keep them clean and free of dust, your PS3 is as good as gold! lol but keeping is important though.

you might want to purchase a stand, or just stand it up without the stand. Next to that, make sure that the power cord is put in correctly

(to be sure that the power cord is inserted correctly, make sure that the lettering on the cord is facing towards the front of the PS3.)

The ps3 slim has a different blueray drive compared to the ps3 fat.

The slim drive is like an laptop drive.

It makes a hell of a lot more noise.

Get a fat while you can.

Yeah i do hear that but the point is why does the slim do this when phat doesn't well it does but very very rare and at the phat its different it is much louder than that but for like 1 sec.... it's normal not a serious problem but never try to move slim from horizontal to vertical vice versa it may wear off the Blu- ray drive just take care of it..

I've only had the Slim since yesterday but I've noticed when you push/eject a disc in the PS3 Slim it is much louder than the original 60GB PS3. I don't know if this applies to the 40GB and 80GB though. Just thought I would add this :)
