By the same token, 80% did NOT want tax cuts for millionaires to continue, yet Republicans continue to say they’re “listening to the American people.”  I’m just not seeing it. They’re lying to people, getting them mad, then listening to that SMALL minority of crazies out there who agree w/them.

Apparently they are, trying to repeal the bill when 56% according to a poll taken Monday afternoon. Still, when the elements of the bill are broken down, a great majority of those polled say they favor those items. Oddly, the “Individual Mandate” is the most controversial, and yet the same thing was proposed by Republicans in the ’90’s.

Polls still show the country is pretty split on the issue. The loudest wins, and demonizing something that hasn’t happened yet is easy.

I think it’s far from perfect, to be sure, BUT something had to be done, and it’s a start. I think we just need a single-payer plan or at the very least a public option.  Insurance companies can deal with it. Greed and our health do not belong together.

@puttputtking The real problem with the bill is that Democrats gave in and compromised right from the start, then gave up on the public option. With the public option, you wouldn’t need the mandate.

But remember, the “Individual Mandate” was a Republican idea. Calling Obama a socialist because of it is insane - that would mean Bob Dole, former leader of the Republican Party, was a socialist.

I agree. I don't see why Obama wanted to be president. He's popularity is in the low to mid 50's which is OK. But, if unemployment remains high through 2011, he can pretty mich forget it. Even if unemployment is 3-6% and the GDP is strong, I wouldn't want to see him win a second term because people will still find ways to discredit his presidency.
