  • There's a school by where I live that has a fallout shelter sign, but it's filled with asbestose... So it's eather die by radiation,or get lung cancer and die over time.

  • In '69 '70 a Sr Master Sgt (USMC) told me DIAL was the soap they had found to be the most effective in removing "fallout" from clothes, skin etc...outside surfaces...

He had been in the battles of Korea and also took part in the Atomic and Nuke Tests.

  • At the time this film was made the U.S.A. could not be struck by a nuclear wpn either by missile or aircraft from Commie Russia. According to WAR AND PEACE IN THE NUCLEAR AGE (PBS late 1980s) and book of the same name, the Head of the Soviet Stag Rocket Forces stated they (the Russians) had no means of hitting. any part of the Contin. United States with their nuke warheads---no means of delivery---

  • To anyone who feels secure in the belief that the country wielding the most nuclear weapons stands the best chance of survival, allow me to possibly enlighten you w/ a small illustration; Imagine two opponents are squaring off against each other in a room awash in gasoline, and that they are both armed with books of matches. Do you really think the man with the most matches in his book will emerge victorious or even survive the conflict if they decide to throw lit matches at one another?

  • This stuff from the 50s absolutely fascinates me. The sheer stupidity of our species is really a contrasting testament to our limitless imagination. Anyone know where I can find more videos like this?

  • haha amazing video. Sure, just wait in a fallout shelter for two weeks, and you'll be fiiiine..

  • I know that an old church by me has a sign saying fallout shelter it can hold a max. of 75 people.

  • "Many people have difficulty understanding how silent, invisible rays which cannot even be felt can be so damaging."

NO! EVERYBODY who's anybody with a computer can go on the internet and understand EVERYTHING! Black helicopter/space aliens/Church's Chicken biscuit butter makes black men sterile conspiracy nuts put the "DUH" in PROPAGAN-DUH!

  • What would be the point of "sending in all they got"? Pretty much everything would be destroyed and no one would be happy :{

  • 3:22- DORK!

  • I just wanted 2 say that im against nukes and would never ever want 2 see the end of our world , hope that u all dont want it too happen...peace....

  • What are u idiots all arguing about ??? who cares who has more bombs ??? Becuse once the bombs drop and u all are like WTF,will u argue there n then? Will u know who did it? Will u go 2 war if necessary? Would u be scared? How much frends do u have now? We the people of the world as ordinary citizens cant know or do anything about it,the fucking bigshoots have the nukes not us,and who the f are those who claim they know everything that goes on in the stupid world, the media sucks...

  • lol good old fashion American propaganda, dont forget to duck and cover kiddies

  • Two weeks is accurate as long as you are not closer than 50 miles. Dose is based on time, distance and shielding. Most byproducts of fission decay quickly. So you know, I am a nuclear plant worker and was an ICBM launch officer in the USAF.

  • I highly doubt that it would be safe to come out in just two weeks.

  • It wouldn't be safe at all. Try a couple months for it to be MAYBE okay to go outside. Even then you better have a Geiger counter with you.

  • And where did you find this information? Playing Fallout 3?

  • "Complete isolation from 4 to 6 days following delivery of the last weapon. A very brief exposure to procure water on the third day is permissible, but exposure should not exceed 30 minutes. One exposure of not more than 30 minutes on the seventh day. One exposure of not more than 1 hour on the eighth day. Exposure of 2 to 4 hours from the ninth day through the twelfth day. Normal operation, followed by rest un a protected shelter from the thirteenth day on." - U.S. Army Survival Manual.

  • How impressive, no superstars, no exaggeration of the threats, just factual. Doesn't happen often nowadays.

  • @Renegen1 i know right straight to the damn point. "if our country should be attacked by nuclear weapons, many would die instantly from the destructive blast and heat." lol

  • i already have survival and public and gov. resurrection plans ready

  • these old films are fairly accurate, can you imagine this being made today with a host of hollywood stars.bruce willis with a rocket on his back heading upwards to stop a nuclear bomb from expolding, lots of very attractive bimbos playing at being scientists ( csi style).. things should be straight foward and to the point, you dont need to dress up death with pretty people

  • Bombs cause radiation. Radiation hurts people. People threaten other people with pain, if anything the future will hold bombs with MORE impact on the places their sent to demolish

  • Actually nuclear war is survivable given that one has:

    1) A GOOD shelter

    2) Enough food

    3) Enough water

    [Something to defeat boredom]

  • The thing to defeat boredom is the most vital part! You don't need food and water if you're having fun!

  • computer is neccessary so you can play fallout 1-3.

  • Niinhän tuo on :) Hih, haistan sarkasmia.

  • haha

  • wow, didnt they know how toxic beta emitters are when ingested. polonium is one of the most toxic substances known to man, and that is because it is radioactive

  • how long would it take for everything to be back to normal after blasting the hell out of ourselves.

  • if we used the old bombs, forever.

the newer, safer hydrogen ones, well, about two weeks to a few years, depending on the amount of corse.

however 'back to normal' would never happen.

wed never have electricity again, integrated circruity for example, would never function the same again. our energy grid would be useless and everything attached to it, would be too..

teh rivers would have dead things in them, there'd millions of dead bodies lying everywhere..

nothing would be the same again.

  • thx for the info.

  • thats complete bullshit. no matter the damage, unless we're all dead we can rebuild. electricity and so many other energy sources we can bring back up and working. when the nonrenewable stuff is gone, its gone. but those were never vital. as for the dead bodies and things in the river, cleaning up the destruction and actually burying the damn things will solve it all. everything can eventually go back to normal.

  • whats complete bullshit is the fact you dont realize that once our current day's facilities and supply system have been disrupted in ANY WAY, things will start to fall apart. are you STUPID? the soil, up to four inches down, for THOUSANDS of miles in every direction will NOT be able to hold ANY sort of plant life that we'd EVER want to eat.

so tell me, how are you gonna take that four inches off the top, of EVERY RADIATED SITE?, oh and keep in mind, you will be bombarded by radiation!your wrong

  • calm yourself the fuck down already. we will never completely lose hydroelectricity because its renewable. we will always have renewable resources. you take this too fucking seriously. what kind of idiot questions one's intelligence while shouting certain words and sentences for no apparent reason? i may not know that much about this, but at least i have common sense.

  • Comment removed

  • seriously, get a life. you aren't even mature enough to calm your bitch ass or quit repeating yourself. you're also very ignorant. all hydro could never be taken out. nothing has that kind of power. and if so, why would we worry about fallout when we would all die from loss of all hydro, idiot. seeing as much as a hypocrite you are, i think you need to learn about what you're talking about before you run you're mouth

  • Comment removed

  • user blocked? maybe you should argue with people when you develop a level of maturity past that of a toddler's

  • Humanity always survives. its in our nature. science can prove that wel will die. but if this ever occoured and people where in bunkers or whatever. they would survive. mind you the chances will be slim. but mainly the human being is a persistant bastard that just wont die out really

  • holy shit. you win.

best damn argument i've EVER heard

you're TOTALLY right, we're hard headed bastards, we dont give up for shit do we?

perhaps you are right, but who wants that scenario?

    i surely dont...

i'd rather it just never happened.

  • and, according to my electrician friend, there are many parts of devices that while capacitors and other components wouldn't work, other parts could be soldered on to make them work, so a really smart guy could make them work

    so i totally dissected myself.

    go figure.

but emp is the biggest threat to this day and age of computers. if it hit over someplace like google, we'd lose so much information.

  • Lol i sence sarcasm but im not tottaly sure.

i really couldnt give a shit about fallout. because this was miles before my bloody birth. and there doesnt seeem to be any worrys about nuclear fallout now does there. so i dont worry about it

no i really dont want this scenario =P

  • heh, government organizations haven't gotten rid of the nuclear weapons yet.... if someone has them at there disposal, they will always have there finger over the button.....

better to actually take in SOME of this useful information then to simply say "this will never happen, lets just play in the fallout!"

  • i wonder what north korea will do on july 4th of 2009 lol there threatening the u.s. again

  • I think that even if they do... sure we might be in debt. but we can fight wars...

  • lol yeah i know that and yeah they did another test lauch on the 4th but it only got like 250 miles haha

  • its the new cold war, where one step closer to fallout

  • Aaaactually, the fact is, the information presented within this film is actually fairly accurate. Despite the fact that most people consider Nuclear Winter to be inevitable, the fact is, a Nuclear attack produces not nearly enough particles into the air to blanket the earth with a darkening cover of particles in the air. What happened in the Fallout games, minus the outlandish technology and mutants, is likely to happen in the event of an attack.

  • Where's Kew?

  • for anyone thats interested there are three factors that influence radioactive exposure, time, distance and shielding. the less time spent exposed the better, the further away you are the better and anything you might be sheilding yourself with is important... i learned that just so i could tell you all.

  • this inst a game? this was a TV show

  • Strontium 90 Baby!

  • All of you complaining about age - nuclear protection is timeless. Get some concrete/dirt/steel/lead around you and your good.

  • Lets see...in late januraury 2008 russia tested there new vacuum bomb, which had a bigger shockwave then a nuclear missile, could this mean something? A new arms race could be starting...we need to make fallout shelters again soon with Iran reaching there nuclear capabilities in 2011, so yea we gotta make effective ones that will let us survive for some 35+ years

  • All in all, its kind of scary. Fallout shelters were only designed to work for 3 monthes effectivly. Actually decay rates are at about 35 years.

  • actualy Chernobyl is quite fine now i even hav a few friends from there. Anyways 5" of steel or 16" of solid brick would protect like 99% of fallout. Besides if the US and Russia went to war they could destroy the world with, i think, 20% of the bombs they hav, who knows wat weapons they hav now. U get like a 15 min warning if Russia attacks and the best thing u could do is pray to God, Gods, or Allah that He would grab those ICBMs out of the sky and save ur life cause otherwise wer all dead.

  • wow, what do they base some of this shit off of? fallout is a lot more dangerous then they made it out to be.

  • This was over 50 years ago. They did not know as much about this stuff as they do today.

If you thought this was amusing, you should try and find the old "duck and cover" psa's about what do in class if theres a nuclear attack.

  • Wiki 'ecocide'

  • Where did this come on NET?

  • Jesus, just how much of this movie is bogus?

  • Its not tough to escape fallout particles, only shitty Fallout Boy music.

  • I thought the chenobol disaster there still is radiation around, and iff fallout touches your food i thought it would be contaminated and should never be eaten. I think this video is outdated.

  • no shit its outdated.. it's 53 years old

  • 3 years younger than my dad =P

  • Their will never be a true nucular war... even if china and russa teamed up to take the US out they couldn't... and the same for us if we were to team up with either... we are too strong... and so are they... The Super Powers can not destroy each other in simple terms... Even if they send everything they got it would never land in time... we would send everything we have

  • as long as we maintain mutally assured distruction, there will never be a nuclear war. that's why there wasn't one with the soviets, kennedy made sure we had enough to destroy russia if they ever attacked.

  • it is enevitable that the cold war will happen again. usa are pissed at iran so they will eventually invade. then russa and china will side with iran. then possible nuclear war on usa an western europe

  • It's also possible that fanatic christians and the fanatic muslins throw bombs at each other as they want the Apocalypse to happen, huh?

Cold War will not happen again. China and Russia want dollars, not some stupid communist world domination plan.

  • OMG I was always told that total brainwash was a specific Soviet habit... However we had films which were far more honest. For Soviet people, a nuclear war was the saddest thing to imagine, that could not be justified with any reasons or threats. I like 'The Day After' movie, though. Much closer to reality.

  • Watch Threads- even better!

  • I am italian I watched a documentary on Discovery channel about cold war in usa. it was about some experiments on population of an american city on which were sprinkled some substances by aeroplanes that should provocate fever. what was that city?

  • rome

  • Praise be that the Cold War never actually happened, eh?

  • The RUSKIES ARE COMMING!!!

  • Fallout does NOT make nearby things radioactive; it will, however, irradiate living tissue, causing cellular death (common) and mutations (rare). The object is to keep fallout and its associated radiation away from living things -- after surviving the initial blast(s). Many will survive...mostly those who learned and prepared. So far, man has never invented a weapon that was not widely used; learning defense against weapons has saved many lives.

  • There has beeen a conscious effort to distort facts and confuse the public about the nature of nuclear events and the results thereof. The "duck and cover" drill was never intended to protect you from the effects of a direct hit by a bomb; it won't even do you any good if a stick of dynamite goes off if the room with you. It was meant to protect you from flying debris at some distance from "ground zero".

  • We are very lucky it did not happen.

  • "Did"?

  • were can i find stock footage like this?

  • archive org, prelinger archives has a lot of these I think. If not, one of their other ones.

  • ha for a sec there i thought this was from the game fall out XD i didnt know this was a real educational video about fall out

  • very good

  • Oh, looks like radiation only affects living tissue. But I thought fallout were radioactive particles floating in the air? I guess I was wrong. Also, no harm in eating radioactive food, no sir, you and your family are safe.

  • endofworld dot net/endofworld dot swf

    hahaha gotta love it

  • very educational

  • Got a good laugh from this one. Nice material. :D

  • So what does "Fallout" mean?

  • It results from a ground explosion in which dirt and dust particles become mixed with radioactivity and suspended in the air. These particles can be carried downwind and redistributed in a several hundred mile radius, or perhaps thousands of miles.

  • When the radioactive particles fall out of the sky after the explosion launches them up into the air.

  • This video is true??

  • Gee Wiz those nuclear attacks are just so inconvenient!

  • i know! especially since we have such a horrible government, so we are at greater risk. what a shame.

  • Ask the people of Chernobyl what their survival looks like. Go into one of the children cancer clinics. And im talking about children which were born long after the accident. They carry the genetical damage of their parents and pay with multiple kinds of cancer for that. If they survive, they will give the same genetics to their own children.

  • If you watched the video it explains everything, relax. It's the government and they have scientists who study this stuff.

  • If they had fallout shelters they would have been protected. The main problem was that the govenment told everyone that it was just a fire and they had nothing to worry about.

  • When the bomb drops, run towards the light you idiots.

  • To Joebo3 comment above: a bomb would not produce fallout or radiation that lasts millions of years because a pile reactor produces different isotopes than a bomb. Mainly strontium, which has a short half-life. Then there is a bomb salted with cobalt that would purposely produce longer lasting radiation, but that is by a different bomb designed to doom the Earth with more fallout.

  • hey wouldn't we be F**ked anyway? I mean all that radi and shit would stay around for abit right?

  • Only the aria around ground zero will stay radioactive, fallout loses its radiactivity quickly.

  • Pretty much everything said in this video is scientific fact. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both muked, but only a few years later are now thriving cities. We are getting hit with radiation all the time, but, like everything, it's the amount that kills you. Unfortunately, all the lie-down-and-die peacenik propaganda out there, spreading half-truths and outright lies about nuclear technology and weapons, has distorted reality beyond recognition in public opinion.

  • I agree, but actually I believe it was the US government that was behind propagating and planting many of the doomsday myths behind nuclear war because of the MAD philosophy, since the US only spent about 55 cents on civil defense per person compared to the Soviets roughly 8-20 dollars.

  • Nuclear War would definitely be devastating, and would change life on earth drastically no doubt, but humanity would survive, just as people close to Chernobyl have survived post accident, which to this day continues to leak Radiation from time to time.

  • People close to Chernobyl survived by evacuating. The area inside the exclusion zone will remain fatal to human life for centuries to come.

  • Most fallout would come from ground burst munitions used to take out hardened targets like defense pack missile silo's. The vast majority of attacks would be airburst high over cities to maximize the initial destructive potential of the blast, which produces little fallout.

  • "Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both muked, but only a few years later are now thriving cities."

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were 13-kiloton atomic bombs. Today's bombs are 20-30 megatons, or about 2,000 Hiroshimas each, and the United States alone has 10,000 of them. The scientific concern that exists over nuclear weapons is hardly "propaganda" unless you've been watching Fox News.

  • why the fuck would we build 10,000 of them thats fucking retarded, your retarded, and who ever you got that from is retarded, and now I am retarded for saying this to you, and who ever is reading this is now a retard.

  • The most visible problem with the video is the time issue. Doesn't the half-life of radioactive materials last a hella long time? Like millions of years? I heard radioactive material placed underground takes that long.

  • The radioactive metals used to make bombs last a long time, Uranium 235(703,800,000yrs)and Plutonium 239 (24,110 yrs), but much of the material is "burned up" giving off high energy particles and gamma radiation which are what forms fallout. This enregy disipates quickly (For every seven times older the fallout becomes, it has also decayed to 1/10th of its strength) dropping to a safe level in about 2 weeks.

  • All thats left is the unburnt fuel which is dispirsed by the explosion (they are very heavy metals so they don't travel very far). Density decreases with the square of the distance, therefore the farther away from ground zero, the amount of unburnt fuel will be less concentrated, reaching a safe consintration about a mile or so (depending on the size of the bomb) from ground zero.

  • This area can be cleaned up by removing the top layer of soil (taking all the radioactive material with it), laying down a water proof barrier, and then covering the aria with several feet of dirt. Ground zero is now safe for habitation.

  • Duck and cover. Then you will be safe from the radiation.

  • the lucky people will be the ones that die!

  • Allright! Add some bots and we got a show!

  • i wonder if the us-gov will make a new movie called "facts about giant meteors"... "if a moon size meteor strikes your home you must enter your vault imedeatly" ^^

i love this movie btw =)

  • This information can still be useful considering the current threat of terrorists with Radiological Dispersal Devices (Dirty Bombs.) Let's hope like Hell they don't somehow manage to get ahold of an actual nuclear device (or that Iran succeeds in making one.)

  • Good basic primer. There is plenty of information available if you look for it. Knowledge is power. Panic and ignorance will kill you!

  • hear hear.

the only thing to fear is ignorance.

    knowledge is power.

    educate yourself.

    every opinion has a value.

  • Nowhere is it suggested that everything will return to normal in 2 weeks after a nuclear war - the fallout particles are dangerous if ingested/inhaled. But ignorance as to the nature of fallout and alpha/beta/gamma particles is what's going to kill many. Understand what you're dealing with. Life will suck, but you can survive if you understand what you're dealing with.

  • I would pay attention and not dismiss this information. The BS came from the disarmorment movement who wanted us to think we can't survive a Nuclear Attack.

  • they're talking about fallout dipshits. This isn't with respect to avoiding the blast zone in which case people would pretty much be dead. Pay attention to this as it is very valid if you are fortunate enough to not be in the direct blast zone of a nuke. Stay very well sheltered for 24 hours and then go pick up the rocks at ground zero and eat them

  • They didn´t know better. Now they and we all do. So this videos are kinda funny. Maybe... somehow... Hmmm...

  • How's this for the ultimate in government stupidity (or BS, as the case may be). Yeah, food and water that's been hit by fallout is perfectly safe...just wash it off and you'll be fine. Good Lord!

  • How is it stupidity? It is true. If you get rid of the radioactive particles, it is perfectly safe. You obviously can't 'wash off' water, but fruit with a skin or sealed food is A-OK.
