The reason communist regimes don't want religion is because "the state" doesn't want any competition, when it comes to authority. Take NK for example? Actually what has happened was exactly what he described with the 'martial art' analogy. It wasn't the public of the former USSR that was targeted, but the politicians, such as Gorbachev as the main guy and the likes. Communism in the East and Capitalism in the West were created at the start of the 20th century so there would be an excuse for future wars and to divide the planet . There are much bigger forces at work there than just countries of their own!
