If I took Sandra Dee out for a date back then, I'd definitely spike her Coke with a shot of rum when she went to powder her nose! .....Is that wrong?!?
@PoutinePete Yes. Sandra Dee was raped by her step father. She wouldn't have appreciated being date raped. She was crazy about Bobby Darin anyway. I don't blame her, he was pretty hot.
seems like they didnt give a fuck about getting sick and fat if you drink that much coke. And it seems that no one is interested in this fact in the future
@Daverdare keep in mind...there was no "obesity epidemic" back then in the USA like there is now. People were far more active. There was nearly zero fast food (Macdonalds Etc) NO computers, Ipods, DVD players, cable TV (when I was a kid there were only 3 channels on TV and they were not in color. Kids would stay out all day riding their bikes, playing sports etc....nobody was sitting in front of the computer or TV all day ....I am old enought to remember that time...
@inkey2 Coke had real sugar instead of super addictive, fattening high fructose corn syrup. And yes, your body can tell the difference. Write Coke and e-mail and demand they ake hfs out of their products.
@ramblergarage , she died very old, and she was married to the singer bobby darin (dream lover), who died early, their lovestory was known all over the world
@shawtyziz10 back then the commercials may have been longer but there were far less commercial breaks than now. Most shows only had one (or two sponsors; an "alternate" sponser)...like Coca-cola....Pall Mall Cigarettes... etc. There would be a commercial in the beginning....like " 77 Sunset Strip is brought to you by:....." then they would cut to the first commercial....then a midway commercial....and maybe one at the end. Also commercials seemed more interesting (or at least amusing) back then
sandra dee? who's that? when I hear "Sandra Dee" I think of that song from Grease... "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee?" connection? I feel out of it now, lol. I was born in 1992, though. :)
Sandra Dee was an actress/model. Her most well known movie was Gidget, which made her popular with teens in the 50s. She was married to singer Bobby Darren from 1960-67. She died in 2005 I think. She was 14 when she did this ad. FYI I was born in '93!
Yes I am sure. She was VERY young when she did this. And don't forget, she was just 17 when she made Gidget I am old enough to have seen some of her pictures. By 12 she was a successful model and made her fim debut at 14.
I loved her in A SUMMER PLACE. I thought the girl in this commercial was hired for that "look" but had no idea it was really her. Thanks for the info!
With the way they're acting, I can only assume that Coke's back then still had "shit" in it. Far out, solid and right on, man. Let's rap it out! groovy. Blow rocks!!!!
Being in coke commercials, we can drink free coke and get paid :)

The song played by the band at :32 is a take on Sousa's "Liberty Bell March," which was later the theme for Monty Python. Somehow it all fits.

Hmmm...she was 16 back then when they made this advert? Please correct me if I'm wrong.
This is also a pretty long commercial. These days they made it so simple, like 30 seconds to a minute.

Sure sounds to me like Sandra's voice was dubbed here - this is an adult speaking, not her real teen voice.
hebneh 3 years ago
Yes, Sandra's voice is dubbed here. On her A&E Biography, "Sophisticated Baby", you can view the commercial with her original vocal track.

This commericial is so old fashioned. Sandra Dee said that she has "to market" for her
parents instead of "I have to grocery shop for my parents."
This commericial is an antique. Sandra Dee
was beautiful all of her life.
