I have a few hobbies, some friends(most of them are like you although a bit older, but they are my friends) and no permanent job(I'm a faculty student so it wouldn't be possible anyways)

The corporation will never stop controlling the world until we reach universal socialism. Unfortunately, this will almost certainly not happen in anyone who views this videos lifetime. It'll take a drastic shock to the industrialized world, like peak oil, before the masses realize that consumerism is working against them.

It's totally about how media portrays things and what people do when they perceive it. This music video is a great example. You think this video is promoting socialism? This band is part of a music industry.

They have talked about socialism before and I think their opinion differs from yours completely. They talk about the kind that happens when people start living their lives instead spending their time consuming. You're talking about classless society, which can't exist if you think about it, too many people who don't know what they're doing, I doubt think people are intelligent enough these days to live without authority.

who is authority? aren't we suppose to elect people from among us? to be represented, not controlled? people are intentionally dumbed down, so its not totally the fault of the sheeple. i think just like on "who wants to be a millionaire", when the audience was almost always right, 300 million brains are better then a few. the only problem is that the lies prevent all the brains being on the same page, and also the dumbing down which was mentioned earlier.

the US has well over 300 million people. my point was, you said there were a select few individuals who run everything among a population of 300 million. I said I would rather have the well educated sheeple than the other millions of people who didn't go to top colleges in the nation and graduate at the top of their class and weren't honest and hard working enough to get into office.

Thats what I'm talking about though, consumerism is SO ingrained in our society, to an unprecedented degree. Whether that is a good or bad thing is debatable, but I'd like to hope you share my opinion that it has more adverse effects than good. That being said, I stand behind my previous comments that a socialist society, which has disenfranchised the general concept of personal ownership of material wealth, would in effect solve the issues this song addresses.

and before anyone says anything, no this society is not ideal, at the present or any foreseeable time in the future. I realize this fact, however it doesn't stop me from believing that ultimately, a Capitalist society based upon continual growth of its economy without regard for physical limitations imposed by the resources available, will eventually crumble and be replaced by a Democratic Socialism.

norml sam you should do something about it besides internet speech. whether or not consumption does play a vital role in the way people think, it would be better to do something about it than complain. there is an elemental truth to what you said, but the cause of problems today is not consumption. i doubt that's even a possible contributing factor, it's just a statistic and without the cause of that statistic you can't call it a cause.
