  • Choreography by Vakhtang Chabukiani

  • I'ii admit; the final move, where Kondratov lifts Ulanova high above the stage and with one arm quickly carries her off, is made more dramatic by use of the scarf. With outstretched arms, Ulanova holds up the scarf close to the front of her body such that it clings to its contours; and the ends of the scarf trail in the wind. Thus, the scarf adds to the dynamic of the scene and creates a beautiful picture because it accents Ulanova's regal pose.

  • Oops! A typo. The music is "Chopin" from Robert Schumann's "Carnaval".

  • I'm pretty sure the music is "Chopin" from Robert Schumann's "Carnabval".

  • Ulanova is so graceful in this! But I could do without the scarf. It gets in the way of seeing HER, and the wondrous beauty of her dancing. IMO the scarf is distracting, even though it is diaphanous. I want to see Ulanova's pure, clean line unveiled! Nevertheless, Ulanova handles the prop so well, you can still see how lovely she is in this clip. Besides Giselle, her most famous role, clips like this remind us why Ulanova held the title of prima ballerina assoluta!

  • I meant to write with my first comment that if it is, as I seem to remember, 'Carnaval', then the choreography is by Fokine.

  • Isn't this from 'Carnaval'? I seem to remember this from the old Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo in the 1930s.
