I used to get the Archie McPhee catalog in the 1980's and your assessment of visiting the store was the same and me going through the catalog. Lots of cool crap that you can do without, but some of the crap is too cool to pass up. A friend of mine LOVED the store so I was constantly getting things like plastic pickles in the mail. I visited Seattle once, and it was one of the best trips of my life. The tour of Underground, the Space Needle, the first Starbucks, and Pike Place Market were all amazing. We also took a ferry to Tilicum Island, and it was unforgettable.

We have a store like that called HIRON'S. If you imagine the R with an X on the end like to indicate a pharmacy, that's what the Hiron's logo looks like. @pottergirl18 Actually, according to the website for this project, it specifically says that you're supposed to "Visit a local attraction that you've never been to". She did exactly that. Since she had never been to the store before, she (possibly) saw it through a tourist's eyes. Although what you're suggesting is an interesting idea as well, I don't believe it was a main point in this particular project.
