just tried it and for some reason when the pistons fire, they close the gates and jam the system so replaced the gates with signs and seems to be working

@dracius0keep That's because of a recent update (1.1 I think) that makes fence gates controllable by redstone (Etho covers it in one of his LP episodes). This video was made in 1.8.1

@GamingUnited1 Use a sign instead. Since Minecraft 1.1 Fence Gates are controlled by Redstone, which is why they close. That was not the case in Beta 1.8.1.
