I love TV, but I only watch cartoons and occasional specials on National Geographic or History Channel. I hate reality TV more than anything though. I really hate TLC. Everything on that channel has to do with marriage or babies and is filled with fake hyped up drama, even the shows that don't seem like they would be. They lure you in and make it seem like they're interesting and informative, then they sneak the babies in there. It's frustrating as hell.
I do have a TV. Big-ass LED backlit LCD TV with passive 3D. I do not however have antenna connected to it. I use it exclusively as a screen to my HTPC. In Czech Republic under certain conditions (which are quite easy to achieve) it is questionably legal (therefore tolerated) to download movies (it comes at a price though but that's OT). That way I watch what I want and when I want. And I don't have to watch the shit that's on TV :)

Totally agree. TV's cultural indoctrination aside, it's so hard for me to be over at the houses of people who have TV. It's the same here in Germany. Jobless people (who get money here through a "campaign" called "Hartz IV") are shown lazy and stupid. The TV displays an image of the "smoking, drinking junkie" who doesn't want to work and who doesn't care about his/her kids. Most people who get Hartz IV are treated very bad because of these Reality TV shows. In reality, most of persons who get Hartz IV are Single-Mums with a little kid who can't work. They need help, no hate. And TV just provides hate.
Hell yeah! It's awesome to see someone else who refuses to watch TV. My family doesn't pay for that shit, and if we want to see a show, we use Netflix. I watched an episode of Jersey Shore just for the sake of cultural awareness, and I was dumb stuck by what a shitty show it is, especially after hearing all the praise for it. We have a right to watch it, and they have a right to produce it, but we should make the educated decision to exorcise our right not to watch it.

I think the worst example of a reality show is that 16 and pregnant show. Seriously, no one that that maybe it was a bad idea to glorify getting knocked up way before anyone should? I have to disagree with you about reality TV. The "reality" of the situation is that it actully takes a lot more intelligence to grasp ANY reality tv show than it does a sitcom for example. The real substance of the show comes from have a rapport with the characters and learning their subtle mannerisms in order to interpret and understand what's really happening in the show.
The truth is that the "stupidest" reality TV show on today is far more sophisticated than any sitcom or scripted show.

It's the same here in Germany. Jobless people (who get money here through a "campaign" called "Hartz IV") are shown lazy and stupid. The TV displays an image of the "smoking, drinking junkie" who doesn't want to work and who doesn't care about his/her kids. Most people who get Hartz IV are treated very bad because of these Reality TV shows. In reality, most of persons who get Hartz IV are Single-Mums with a little kid who can't work. They need help, no hate. And TV just provides hate.

Hell yeah! It's awesome to see someone else who refuses to watch TV. My family doesn't pay for that shit, and if we want to see a show, we use Netflix. I watched an episode of Jersey Shore just for the sake of cultural awareness, and I was dumb stuck by what a shitty show it is, especially after hearing all the praise for it. We have a right to watch it, and they have a right to produce it, but we should make the educated decision to exorcise our right not to watch it.

i dont have cable and i completely agree. say it like it is! if we all stepped back from the media and had enough silent time to really think of whats important, wed all be actively taking responsibility for our lives and realizing how necessary it is to heal ourselves, relationships, and start participating in reality, rather than watching a distorted version of it on TV

I think the worst example of a reality show is that 16 and pregnant show. Seriously, no one that that maybe it was a bad idea to glorify getting knocked up way before anyone should? I'll admit, I've never seen anything other than commercials for this stupid show so my views might be a little prejudice, but I'm sure there are plenty of girls out there willing to get knocked up just to get on tv.

I believe that your video makes a lot of good points, i don't watch reality shows for those very reasons, but i do believe that some reality shows have realism, but a very negative realism. they make ppl do things that shouldn't be acceptable but millions of ppl watch them. but you can see on a day to day basis in communities that some of it's real and it is sad that society has become so blind of the outside world and their surroundings, thanks

I love your videos and I really don't watch t.v anymore because most of the shows are stupid nowadays. my friend asked if animals can watch t.v because her cat looked like it was watching t.v with her, I told her that you don't have to be intelligent to watch t.v and I gave her the examples of Twilight and Jersey Shore as what people love to watch today. Also you hit it right on the head about reality t.v being fake I told my friend this and he told me I was wrong. I just stopped talking to him.

I have to disagree with you about reality TV. The "reality" of the situation is that it actully takes a lot more intelligence to grasp ANY reality tv show than it does a sitcom for example. The real substance of the show comes from have a rapport with the characters and learning their subtle mannerisms in order to interpret and understand what's really happening in the show.
The truth is that the "stupidest" reality TV show on today is far more sophisticated than any sitcom or scripted show.
