  • can you shoot a 7.62 nato out of a .308 savage edge?

  • lol 5:10 "dumbass"

  • @OBSXOLWIND @38 secs the word your looking for is monotonous

  • You kind of sound like Hickock45 lol

  • no offense, great video but your thumb scares me

  • I have a Ruger Target Grey chambered in .308 Winchester, do you think it's safe to shoot .308 NATO in this rifle?

  • @jjh63084 NATO would have a higher pressure so i would not recommend it only shoot the cartridges it is chambered for

  • 7.82 Warbird!

  • in addition to the aforementioned mistake on annealing; the other main difference between the two cartridge standards is that .308 Winchester has HIGHER nominal saami pressure levels; NOT LOWER. Now we have even more erroneous FUD introduced into the interwebs. You should do more research before you commit blatantly inaccurate info to video

  • @callapygian We are not all perfect when it comes to sharing info. I thought that all the corrections in the comment section would let people know that I misspoke during the making of this video. If you are such a hot shot pefect reloading machine than put it out there. If I read from the pages of a book during the making of my video that would make me a machine. NO THANKS..Thats what OBAMA does and he thinks we have 57 states. Im sorry you are so sensitive to simple mistakes.

  • Annealing the neck makes it softer, not harder. Military brass is thicker for the purpose of loose chambers and automatic fire. The softer neck allows the bullet to be seated and crimpped to a more consistant spec. Love your thumb by the way.

  • OBX, i gotta question. I have a very decent condition (VG) 1895 Chilean 7.62N mauser.

Everyone says dont shoot .308 because their claim is a PSI issue. but when I checked with Winchester which makes both .308 and 7.62x51N. The PSI is higher on the NATO round. The anti .308 people also say my rifle has no gas relief valve. I have some 147gr. steel case brownbear .308/7.62 I wish i knew the PSI. Do you think this ammo is near the 50k PSI mark to be ? I hear alot about 50k vs 62k psi.

  • If an AR-10 only dents the harder 7.62 NATO, what would you do? Eject the round and dispose of it? Try firing again? Install a better firing pin?

  • Not to be a dick, but Annealing is to soften the brass not harden it. You got it backwards.

  • I don't know anything about guns, but this is interesting.

  • Nice! Hey what grain of bullet do you use? I've been looking into a .308 mold, I want to get about a 150 or 170gr so I can use them in 30/30 and a .308 if I ever get one. Thanks for the vid.

  • 5:55

  • Thanks for the video,

  • also, the degree of taper on the neck is slightly different between the .308, and the 7.62x51 nato, just wanted to add some additional info for everyone. great vid, lots of info!!!

  • So can I use 7.62X51 in my Ruger Mll Target Gray chambered for .308 Winchester?

  • so can you use the .308 in the M1A?

  • Heat-treating refers to a process wherein the metal is made harder. Annealing always means to make the metal softer. If your brass is to hard it may crack (and you don't want that ) Annealing makes your brass softer, easier to work with when necking , extends brass life and makes neck tension more consistent

  • @relliknomlas truth said.

    great vid outer banks!

  • Great Video, I have been wondering about the differences, I am planning on purchasing a M1a this year, what do you think about the AR10 vrs the M1a?

  • I had to watch in 720p. Great Vid.

Now I have to go watch an M1A vid.

Can you hunt with shorter barrel?

  • Nice vid. Thanks.

  • alot of the misconception about the differences between .308 and 7.62x51 is because of the CETME 7.62 round. rifles made for and chambered for CETME will not safely fire .308 or 7.62x51

  • Thanks , Finally , The only one that has the Cajones , to Address this Subject . Weve Tried The rest , And Found The Best .... OBXSOLWIND

  • Great Video! Also LOL on the Mechanic Thumb! When I was SPC in the Army ... those speed clips made life great. And we did it just as you showed in the video. Imagine loading 50k+ rounds into magazines... I wish they had invented something like that for the .45... all those were loaded by hand one at a time... the winters were horrible for ammo duty...

  • @CalvinSilverbow damn now I bet THAT would give you "mechanics thumb" loading by hand a bunch of magazines!

  • @CalvinSilverbow Great to see you are still out and about Calvin. I would think your thumbs would look just like mine after all that LOL. You could not be more right about the 45APC.

  • I have read that all NATO rounds have a NATO emblem which is a circle with a plus sign inside, and this emblem indicates that the brass was original military brass with thicker base and thicker walls.

  • @LAZERBEEMofTRUTH You would be correct. the circle with the crosshairs is from the Lake City Arsenal in Oklahoma. You ever get a chance to go in. it's really informative how they make rounds as such a high speed and still be safe with all that nitrocellulose's around.

  • The reason the military primer is harder is cause the ammo is spec out for open bolt machine guns. When cartridge cases have been reloaded a number of times, the case necks become harder. Annealing will return the cartridge case necks to their factory original state. in some cases it is lacquer sealed from moisture.

Having seen a G3 barrel deform from Chinese import ammo. I can say you can reach over pressure even in machine guns. best to contact the gun maker for max pressure.

  • Great vid. LOL at the mechanic thumb!

  • @Yankeeprepper I knew the Yankee would get a kick out of my poor thumb. I almost have a thousand subs now and wanted to say thanks for your support and friendship.

  • @OBXSOLWIND You are one of the best Kevin. I come out to the OBX about once a year and I hoping to meet you at a quiet pub for a beer sometime. You are a good guy.

  • Good video Kevin, gee you really do have a built in hammer in your thumb. :-)

  • @econewpower I did not know my thumb would be the star of the show. Thanks for watching

  • A lot of good imformation. Iam still looking into reloading. My work schedule is going to be crazy for the next 6 to 8 months so I might have to weight. Any recommendations on a starter press and other tooling. 9mm, .223, to start.

    Thanks!

  • @FUBARPROTOCOL Lee makes a killer starter kit for around a $100 almost all that you will need in it...hope this helps...God bless...

  • @FUBARPROTOCOL Im realy not shure how to answer that. I would start with buying the book ABCs OF RELOADING. I would then try to hook up with somone who is a reloader and sponge some info. I almost never use my single stage press any more. The progresive press is very fast for someone with time constraints its just not good for the beginer.

  • @OBXSOLWIND Thanks for the advise. I need to do a little more research on this before going foward. I will get the book as my next step.

    Thanks brother!

  • Nice Job Kevin.
