that is adorable! i used to have a westie. she was my first dog and i only had her for a week. she spent half of that week at the vet clinic before dying from an infection in her upper G-I tract. she was only about eight weeks old and i miss her so much!

Aaahh...the trials of having such short legs. To this day, I still don't understand how my Westie got on top of a high fence and was tightrope walking on it bounding along when I was a kid. My mom said he must have been a circus performer in another life.

This is so funny! I have an 11 month old westie and for the longest time she would run to the top of the steps and then bark at us until we went and helped her down. She finally learned to go down, but at first would snake her way down each step...so funny!!!

Oh my Gosh, my westie, Casper, was the same way. He hated climbing the steps, but he always tried. Like late at night, he'd try to come find us when we were asleep and he'd make it up the middle step before he got scared and gave up. We'd find him the next morning sleeping on the middle step, waiting for us to help him down.

My Westie, Abby, is now four years old, but as a pup she would eagerly CLIMB the stairs, but would bark feverishly from the landing when she wanted to return! I always assumed she did this because I lived in an old American Foursquare with steep, uncarpeted stairs and the height frightened her. She got the hang of it gradually, but ONLY if I would walk down beside her one step at a time, cheering her on. I'd always give her a treat afterwards! Most times however, I always carried her down.

This is true for large breed dogs but not for most small breed dogs. She is nearly four months in this video and this is a reasonable age to train a pup to use the stairs safely.

Our vet told us she had to be watched but at four months i agree she should be allowed to explore the house fully. there not racing up and down all the time, and they do look vey very sweet. Nice vid 5/5
