we used to to carry our westie up & down the stairs till he was bout 3. we went to weymouth for the day & to our surprise, he went down some steps & hasnt looked back
my westie did that. ! the very first thing she did when we brought her home was go up a few steps and cry cuz she couldnt get back down again! brings back some very funny memories and moments!
that is adorable! i used to have a westie. she was my first dog and i only had her for a week. she spent half of that week at the vet clinic before dying from an infection in her upper G-I tract. she was only about eight weeks old and i miss her so much!
awww, tht reminded me of when my westie was a puppy but he didnt start barking like that until he was like 8 months old, we thought he was amute at first but now all he does is bark
Ahhh. My Westie pup was exactly the same. We showed her how to walk down stairs by supporting her and she soon got the courage and did it by herself. So very cute....
i have a westie too and that was the exact thing that she did when she was afraid to climb down the stairs. Then now, i don't know what happened... we race to the top and see who gets there first lol. but sometimes, i try to cheat and bring her down two steps.
Aaahh...the trials of having such short legs. To this day, I still don't understand how my Westie got on top of a high fence and was tightrope walking on it bounding along when I was a kid. My mom said he must have been a circus performer in another life.
Hey! I'm deciding between buying a Cairn Terrier or a West Highland White Terrier! I really can't see much of a difference between them but I was wondering if you can give me some info regarding the dog's temperament, and size. I want a dog that wont grow much the smaller I can get and also a dog who is not hostile with the people who come to my house and one that takes orders easily. I don't want an annoying pet. Considering this could you tell me which one is better for me? Thanks!
my dog only started doing this when we got hardwood stairs put in hel go down halfway and stay there all day until someone brings im down, hes actually there right now....
This is so funny! I have an 11 month old westie and for the longest time she would run to the top of the steps and then bark at us until we went and helped her down. She finally learned to go down, but at first would snake her way down each step...so funny!!!
My Westie barks a lot he goes outside a lot and he is afraid to go downstairs and he's 3 we had him for a few years i think 3 years we got him in 2006 and he is afraid to swim.
Oh my Gosh, my westie, Casper, was the same way. He hated climbing the steps, but he always tried. Like late at night, he'd try to come find us when we were asleep and he'd make it up the middle step before he got scared and gave up. We'd find him the next morning sleeping on the middle step, waiting for us to help him down.
Mine does the exact same thing. Shes 15 weeks and runs up the stairs like a tropper but just wont climb back down!!! They are just sooooo adorable!!! xx
My Westie, Abby, is now four years old, but as a pup she would eagerly CLIMB the stairs, but would bark feverishly from the landing when she wanted to return! I always assumed she did this because I lived in an old American Foursquare with steep, uncarpeted stairs and the height frightened her. She got the hang of it gradually, but ONLY if I would walk down beside her one step at a time, cheering her on. I'd always give her a treat afterwards! Most times however, I always carried her down.
NED! o that is sooo cute! my westies names are Mitzie and Maggie! omgosh Ned is such a cute name! our next westies name is going to be marg! tee hee! so cute!
My westie is turning one this month and he still will not do the steps. He is scared to death. We try to make him go down or up at least once a week, and sometimes he'll do it, but we have to force him to do it. It's so cute but annoying- I don't want to carry him everywhere! haha
My westie used to do that..but only I was allowed to carry him but one day I heard him come down the stairs I thort he was falling but he didnt he was fine =D now he legges it up and down the stairs at any chance.
Yea, LilaSkywalker is right...I didn't even know that and I thought: That dog is waaaay too small to be expected to go down that step without potentially hurting itself.
wat onearth r u talking about r u the dumest person on the flippin planet chiwawas stay that size and im sure they go up and down the stairs all the time u people realy need 2 get a life!!!
cute dog but i think i read somewhere that puppies aren't supposed to climb up and down stairs, cause it is damaging to their hips as they are not fully grown yet.
This is true for large breed dogs but not for most small breed dogs. She is nearly four months in this video and this is a reasonable age to train a pup to use the stairs safely.
Our vet told us she had to be watched but at four months i agree she should be allowed to explore the house fully. there not racing up and down all the time, and they do look vey very sweet. Nice vid 5/5
my westie is the same way! though thats cus my mom says she (the dog) fell all the way down the wooden stairs to the tile :( but before then she would try to follow me up the stairs, she get like 4 or five steps up and get stuck there cus she was too afraid to move. now she's smarter, she just sits at the end of the steps and howls haha
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand(SORRY BOUT SPAM THIS REALLY FREAKS ME)
it took forever for my westie to climb down the stairs! i used to have to carry him down 3 flights of stairs only to have him run back up and then cry for me to bring him back down!
my friends were over when he finally did it by himself, and they filmed it but i dunno what happened to the video.
he's soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!! omg omg! i remember when my dog was a lil pup she was the same! afraid to go down the stairs.. she used to cry for me to help her XD
What a little cutie. My puppy used to do this when we got her and now one of our others (we have 3 gorgeous westies Poppie 8, Archie 6, and Islay 3) wont go up stairs coz he's got arthritis and convinces himself he cant do it, lol. He can really, but he just wimps out. Silly boy.
you can sell puppies from the age of 5 weeks, its not too early, we got our pup at 5 and a half weeks old and our vet said that this was a good age to be taken home at.
