Notice there is no mention of West Coconut Grove. Just another way to show that black communities in Miami are misrepresented. O, and that gobbling up of the Grove that Miami did back in 1926 was against the will of the people living in the Grove. The elections were strategically held in the summer when many of the residents were on vacation.
adding to what I said below, my Dad still lives there (he's 80) and I visit him once a year. He has been a Grove Local since the 1950's and still loves it (though maybe not as much as he used to). Bur he gets out and walks to bars and restaurants 3-4 days a week.
Ignore the comments from the racist, ignorant, and unhappy people. I lived in the Grove for several years in the 1990's and it was great. Sure, there is crime, but that is expected in any big city. The west grove (lower income area) wasn't terrible either. Most of the people were friendly even to a white boy like me. I still regard it as one of the best places I have ever lived for many reasons; climate, culture, and the food and drink.
My grandparents lived there for years but moved before the mid 1980s. I never got to see their house as they sold it just after I was born, but I've seen pictures of it & their backyard & it seemed real nice. Sorry to hear about all the controversy concerning Coconut Grove now.
Miami is the shittiest city I ever lived in..It's infested with illigal immigrants , Drugs , Crime, Non speaking English people, Crooked cops , Cuban politicans that only care for the cuban bastards. It is not America. Poor , Dirty , Highest AID's an STD's in the country. People dont work. It has some of the most dangerous hoods in America..DO NOT COME HERE..If you do make sure to have a gun At all times..
Maybe you are just a racist pig who lives in the hood. If you have the cash to go to the nice places, and are not a White supremacist, it is a laid back wonderful place. I live in #52 Cloisters. Come by some time .
@steelcityog true. i was born n raised here and i can't wait to get somewhere where the weather is cooler and the people are friendlier.. only thing that makes it bearable is that i work in a part of the grove where the people are friendly.
there is NOTHING cool or "hippest" or "funky" or "really cool" or "the coolest" or "fascinating" or "new" or "fresh" or any of those adjectives about Coconut Grove. I'm sorry either you don't get out much or deep down, you know this is true because I assume you have EYES. The Barnacle's 'neat' but its a hidden building that has nothing to do with anything else and if you gave anyone five minutes to get rid of it, they'd do just that and build another pink stucco strip mall with cheesy crap.
This is basically like some tourist video segment you might see on the TravelChannel, so what. Personally, I like the "old Grove" that I grew up in during the 60's and early 70's. It's so over the top commercialized now that it's totally lost it's flavor in the village part. I liked the music; Freddie Neil, Jimmy Buffett & Neil Young, all lived in The Grove at one time!
Just ran across this vid of the Grove~Yuck~I too also remember the "OLD " Grove as I was born there! And Raised in the 60's and 70's, I get sad everythime I go down there~ I think theorigional flavor is still there! That is what allways made the Grovegreat!(development sucks,) and I grew up with freinds in the west south and North Grove! I remember watching Neil Young ,and all playing at my freindJimmys house when I was a kid~Yhe Grove was the coolest place to grow up~!~Kat~
You try to make Miami look like a "cool" place. You try to make it look like a place where everyone is white, happy and rich. This is the farthest from the truth. You remind me of the people on TV who say, the buildings fell because they were hit by planes. I am sure you will delete these comments because they do not serve your interest. But be aware, your propaganda has been exposed.
Its called West Grove, you perverted truth hiding propagandist, I am sure you were able to see it from where you were standing. I live in the part of village you did show, less than half a mile from Senior Frogs, you ignored the Bahamian culture on the other side of the street, you ignored the poor, the often ignored, the black, you should be ashamed.
This is the kind of propaganda that defames life in Miami. Millions of people live there, it is the poorest city in the country, our poverty rate was 27% last year, compared to national average of 12%. Whoever made this short docu is a sick freak, you ignored an entire half of this village, why?: because it is black and poor and that is the Miami the MAN tries to hide. Shame you.

On the contrary, Gonzo, your hatred is exposed. Miami IS beautiful and so is the Grove. Don't like it? Leave. Thanks, Robert, for a well done vid.
