Of course many people prefer the many comforts of a full size RV other prefer to be a bit more adventurous and be more in touch with nature.I can vouch for this particular truck but Unimogs are very capable very often outperforming and outlasting your jeeps,Toyotas, land rovers and many other "4x4's" No wonder they are so hard and expensive to buy.Read people instruct yourselves.
I just love the narrow vision of so many people just because they see the world expedition they think you have to cross the amazon on a 4x4.There a many uses to this type of vehicle besides as a camping rig,And for those of you that think this will not make it outside US think again this idea in fact came from outside the US,in fact it has been used in many countries around the world by scientist, military , geologists etc...Now is an alternative to boring RV's and goes where RV's can't.
@36Schorsch Expedition= long journey or voyage undertaken for a specific purpose. This and other similar vehicles like the unimog are perfect for that purpose of course it has its limitations its not made for sled pulling or mud pits.Probably you thinking rather take my jeep,or land rover or whatever but this rig depending of configuration is capable of carrying people ,food, equipment and still provide more than adequate shelter while they do whatever is they doing.
There is engineered frame flex then there is a wet noodle. Blechh! Also it looks like it has the break over angle of a minivan with all that crap underneath. I don't know what International's deal is with their fuel tanks. Their class 8 rigs had stubby tanks instead of skinny ones that barely left any ground clearance too. Even with 4wd and the big tires there is barely any clearance for them. This is a very confused vehicle that offers not much value for what it costs.
Due to the fact that off road recovery vehicles in AZ are far more capable than this low slung belly scaper, I still say keep her in the US on relatively smooth gravel roads. When it gets high centered, it will be an easy recovery for a 6x6 wrecker. Great looking truck though and I am sure it would be a great camper; it's just no expedition vehicle one would want to trust in harsher environments. Hopefully it has locking diffs, but it really needs 2-4 more wheels.
Having grown up in the Northwest, raced bikes and buggies from Utah to Mexico for 10 years and even doing a two year stint at Fort Huachuca and two more at Sandia Labs, I am well familiar with the terrain in AZ.
Yes, the US is 40X the size of the UK but that does not make this truck any more capable of harsh conditions outside the US. With a low undercarriage and long wheelbase, adding skid plates to all of the low hangning equipment decrease clearance even further.
air brakes, vehicle weight 33k to 80 k. thats CDL right there. hmmm i wonder wat cdl stands for.... COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE maybe? the truck requres a CDL novakane87, its a Commercial fucking rv. get over ur self and do some fucking BETTER reading.
With all the low slung gear the water crossing depth looks to be 30-40cm at best. ALL diffs better lock as well because with just 4 wheels this heavey looking machine is probably not going to far well when it gets a little slippery or deep. Best to keep it on fairly well maintained dirt/gravel roads. It is deffinately not someone you would take outside of the USA.
I suppose this is built to run on gravel roads, probably in America where you are never too far from a commercial tow truck. With the huge wheelbaase and low ground clearance to what looks like quite a bit of unprotected kit on the underside, this truck would struggle in moderate to rough going. Still great for New Mexico and Arizona though.
@sombre1100 You obviously have never been to AZ, in fact, I'm not sure that you even watched the video. Yes, I agree that it should have skid plates under the fuel tanks and what not...but the video clearly demonstrated the terrain they designed the truck for. There are many places in America that a tow truck is far away. Our country is only 40x bigger than the entire UK. AZ has three deserts, the Mojave, Sonoran, and the Tonopah. Temperatures occasionally range from -40 to over 53 Celsius.
i dont think this will be prone to getting stuck, with those two hydraulic winches and the fact that you would have the gear you would need to get unstuck on board with you!
@SGhostrider71 have you never heard of a joke, you take every thing a bit serously, and just so you know i do have quite a large knowledge of off roading.
or alternatively live in air conditioned comfort until help arrives you called on one of your sat phones and gave precise coords to from one of your 3 GPS systems. in fact i think you should probably set off walking, haha.

Yea that frame is some real junk it would flex on my driveway to no end, and a truck with that payload shouldn't be bouncing and flexing like that. not even big motor homes would flex like that.
they flex for a reason :P it helps keep wheels on the ground. These chassis are actually designed for a certain amount of frame flex. Check out unicats website. This is a bonified hardcore expedition vehicle.
That was one longer torturous video to watch...I was waiting to see what the inside looked like...anyone can build a truck that handles that terrain...it's the RV part that sets this vehicle apart...it would have been nice if you included some video of the interior and how it's set up. Interesting truck...but a very limited market I would think. Good luck, but add some of the actual RV part of the rig...after all that's what this is about...isn't it!!??
Check out the Unicat web site. It is pretty cool. They even have models where the top raises up to make like a little loft area with a large bed. It's pretty cool, I would buy one if I had an extra $ 600,000 to 1,000,000. Like thats going to happen. LOL
"they really need to something about that frame. thats cary, i havenever seen a frame wabble that much, even on a dump truck"
I think you meant "scary" and "wobble"
Maybe you need to brush up on the facts jack. First of all the frame is built to flex, lot most off highway vehicles are.. and second the cabins ride on airbags so there's some sway due to that.. nothing dangerous or poor design in any way.. In fact the MTX, if you know what that is, rides pretty awesome.
really, you wanna think about that statement again. a truck carring 60,000-70,000 lbs(dumptrucks and semis) u think the frame should flex to a degree such as that? u are sadly mistaken.
No the frame is made to flex in a tortional manner. It helps to keep the wheels on the ground. There is a 3 point mount for the camper section so it does not flex.
For on road applications you want less flex but for off road ability you want more flex. If you go to the Unicat website they show the engineering that goes into these vehicles. It really is exceptional
Very cool Idea, but only the widest of back roads/trails would accomodate that behemoth. Seems to flex very well between the cab and camper. I like the unimog better too, but they don't really compare in size.
You don't know your history too well. The unimog is post WWII. The US built the FWD in WWI, the Jeep and Power Wagon, Bronco, M35.. Oshgosh, Marmon Herrington, FWD, any number of others. Oshgosh makes some chassis that are every bit as capable as the European Tatras.
the wheelbase is way too long to go anywhere
