Actually, the server for this is STILL up, as someone who was once with Westwood keeps it up. There are usually a few people online, and you no longer need to register to play online just put in a name and password can be any old password and log in. The 1.2 update and quest pack can be found on the Nox forums, and it's on GoG for six bucks.
Nox is one of my all time favs, very overlooked game, came out before DII and doesn't require hardware acceleration but graphics, sound, voice acting, atmosphere are all excellent, multiplayer was great but has frantic as a FPS
This game even has realistic physics, jumping, and shadow effects, in almost every way it's better than DII
hah I love this game... I remember getting it like 6 years ago. Me and my sister would play it for hours. Then after a year or so my 6 year old sister decides to take a paper weight and destroy it for no apparent reason. Definite great game!
It is really a fantastic game, everyone should try it. I played it like 6 years ago when I got it, and about 1-2 years ago and it still was extremely enjoyable. The dialogue is top notch, the variety of weapon and armor is excellent, and the gameplay itself is fantastic and fun.
Hey, you are really good at reviewing the game, lots of different small gameplay videos from different locations and etc.. :) im thinking to try this game right now.
please thumb this up so people can see this. Nox 2 is actually going to be made. its being made by fans of the series in the unreal development kit. for more information check out noxforum dot net under the Nox2 discussion heading. about a month ago an alpha of the game was released so you might want to check it out.
best classic game of my entire life, the multiplayer made the game come together so well. there was the action tdm ctf games aswell as a role playing element online although i stuck to the ctf games everything about the multiplayer was enjoyable. the engine of the game was amazing for its time very well put together and it flowed fast past and fluent. this game outclasses many of the games that are made today. if a squeal comes out, they have to stick to the old formula but improve upon.
It's single game script is fun; but it's multiplay is amazing.
Some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had was NOX multi-play Capture the Flag. I still remember being a throwing up walls to stop invaders so I could blast them with a deathray as a wizad, sicking my golems on people as I shot them with poisoned arrows as a conjuror, and chasing people around with a giant sledge hammer as a warrior.
In a way this game sorta reminds of secret of evermore, the mixture of fantasy & steampunk plus the fact that you play as a teenage protaganist from our world thats suddenly dragged into a very stange fantasy world.
Bought it the first day it came out - I still have it installed on each system I own. Windows 7 will run it.
When NOx Quest released, with the help of Hirroshi, we created the Mana staff which burned Conj/Wizards mana so far - it was the best warrior tool out their. I miss this game.
NOX Online quest is my favourite cause the stages are almost endless and difficulty increases and the variations in each weapons and not to mention the xclusive quest ultra weapons gets u addicted to be a collector . ITS ALSO A GREAT TEAM PLAY . I think the online server might still work cause i played the multiplayer modes in 2008 and there were lots of people . I LOVE THE GRAPHICS , SOUND EFFECTS and THE STORY MODE. TRY THIS GAME . o_O.d
hello i dont usally post comments even for the greatest of movies on youtube but i had too because this game was awesome i loved the mutiplayer my friend just hacked away and made it cool but ea killed westwood and now noone looks after the mutiplayer severs awesome game got ruined because of ea :(
the multiplayer was amazing. the first game i played that allowed so many people in one server, and doing Nox Quest with other players was super addictive. Not to mention the "hacks" that most became fond of. so sad that EA raped Westwood.
Nox is a favorite of mine as well. I never did any of the Diablo series so I can't compare.
I enjoyed Nox's single game immensely, but I really enjoyed the multiplayer CTF. That is where the balance of the classes really came through. You could certainly be aggressive, but you could also execute some wicked cool defensive strategies that ran off the "obnoxious pwnd PvP" crowd. Sadly, all that is left are a few PvP deathmatch sites.
@Konuvis: Yeah, that seems to be the case with most PC gamers of the time. Diablo II was better game for the most parts, but Nox still had some cool stuff that was nowhere to be found in Diablo II. Oh lord, I remember that awful wizard tower where you had to sneak past all those traps! Really good game.
Hey Jam, Sssargon here. I picked Nox up from Toys R Us for like $5 back in like 2002-ish. It was such a great game, I agree that it's definitely worth playing, even today. I even like the feel of controlling my character more than Diablo. Plus the versus and co-op multiplayer was pretty fun - back in the day.
I do own Fallout 1, but I only got it recently and haven't actually played all that much of it. I'd need to put a lot of time into it before I could really do it justice.
im proud owner of nox! one of the best games i have ever played :D

I liked Nox, it's a great game. It's just a shame EA have no interest in making a sequel, if only Westwood Studios was still around. =p

As usual James great job!
I remember looking into Nox when it came out but like you said D2 took over my life so that was that.
The graphic engine for the settings reminds me a lot of Divine Divinity.
