Omg I went in that when I was a kid, good thing it did not catch on fire with so much plastic in it. But if it had caught on fire,I'm sure If I duck and cover I would have been fine.
Hel...Hello.... Jane do you have me on that damn speaker phone again. Take me off speaker or I'm hanging up. I always feel like here is a group of people in the room laughing at me when someone puts me on speaker phone.
Wow it's Monsanto before they turned to the dark side and began suing farmers for having their genetically modified plants, whose seeds Monsanto could have easily dropped there.
I think I've never seen this attraction because plastic degrades in the sun. I wonder how soon that became a problem :D
5:21 The refrigerators in the future are called "cold zones" because they don't refrigerate very well. Also, I can't imagine opening and closing a fridge taking that long and requiring electricity.
The revolution of the house of the future is that all the quality workmanship has been replaced with illegal aliens, and all the real wood has been replaced with carcinogenic particle board from China. A good stiff wind and they fall over. Some revolution. I'll take the home built 100 years ago. It will still be standing in another 100 years. The ones built today won't last 20 years before they are falling apart, or spontaniously combust from the sub-par Chinese materials.
@The11colek The truth hurts, doesn't it? New homes are built of particle board from China. They are just sawdust and carcinogenic glue. There is no workmanship because all the illegals they hire couldn't care less what kind of junk they built. It's just slap up the piece of crap and get it sold before it falls down. Now all that is left is a bunch of poorly constructed, over-priced, tacky McMansions that nobody wants. Homes of 100 years ago were built of real lumber and brick by Americans.
I was in that house as a child, I later heard that the demolition story was made up. And that it was air lifted by two helicopters and taken to Lake Arrowhead Ca. and belongs to a retired Monsanto executive.
@michaelpriest I think you are right because the house is featured in a Time Life Science book that I have from around 1970 or so and they made no mention of it being torn down only that the cantelevered wings had only sunk 1/8 of an inch in ten years of it being built.
Haha, I remember when microwaves were the "ovens of the future." But as useful as they are today, they really never got past being the "food and beverage re-heaters of the future."
so when the motor that lowers the "cool zone" burns out, your screwed until the repair guy comes. I think that's why they kept the manually opening doors
Any time someone comes up with an idea of "the future ____", it just comes out incredibly goofy and impractical. Who would want to live in a home like that?! Not many, I'll bet.

Food irradiation is still a common practice, everyone. I'm sure we've all had irradiated foods of some sort (tropical fruit, anyone?). That is by far the least worrisome part of this video
Gee, so sorry I missed out on being irradiated, microwaved, and ultrasounded everyday in my own kitchen, while I ate off of and slept on toxic plastic materials! Some dream house! I guess eating your genetically modified food, and drinking your human growth hormoned milk will have to do! NOT! Every DOG has it's day and your is coming up!

i don't get this whole future shit. if they could make it for the then present to show what the future would 'look' like, couldn't they just make it then???? O_o
Wow if you look at this video and compare it to today 2010 we havent really made a huge difference. I mean these people were thinking of hover cars and stuff like that and we still dont have that. We pretty much have the same types of houses as those ones when we should be living in super smart houses. I bet by like 2050 well just be a little bit more advanced than now but not too advanced. Especially how the economy and stuff is today we're advancing way to slow in life.
BTW, anyone else find it depressing that the "houses of today" that they showed (which were build no later than 1967 (when the House of the Future closed)) look exactly the same as the houses of 2010? I want neighborhoods full of ridiculous plastic houses, godammit!
I want to transmit the scent of roses with the touch of a button! It's 2010 and the best we have are fucking Glade Plug-ins.
I also think it's funny that whenever a futuristic kitchen is presented (Back to the Future 2, this house, etc.) they always show these elaborate drop-down automated cabinets. I think it's pretty safe to say even 100 years from now we'll have good ol' cupboards to store our food.
@copyright1982 You are wrong, my friend! It's futuristic to have cabinets disappear and...take up as much space somewhere else, so...you need twice the space! And can't see what's in them. The future!!!
About the kids here chuckling for the "irradiation". We've been constantly irradiating our foods when we cook them since prehistoric times, we usually call it "heat". Do'h. (scientifically it is known as "thermal radiation")
So much obsession on "man made materials"... It is so interesting this extremist pendulum effect in our humanity: From seeking an absolutist "human made" techno-craze to "100% organic" naturalistic obsession. Are we ever gonna learn to be balanced and harmonic?
The houses they have then are the same way the houses we have now look. There is no difference on the outside. Most of the things inside houses are just minor upgrades to things that were invented back then. I mean yes it's a lot better and would have looked awesome to them, but in reality they are just upgrades, not new things mostly. TV, Stove, Microwave, Washer & Dryer, etc...it was all invented by then. The thing I think they wouldve liked were iPods and computers, especially internet
You would be shit out of luck scrounging for food in that kitchen if the power went out. And spices in huge dispensers like that just say spider eggs to me. I notice the woman having to puse every few moments to be sure the latches catch. I do like the separate pod for the kids however, Junior and Babs can kill each other in private.
There's actually nothing wrong with irradiated food. People confuse irradiated for radioactive. You expose the food to gamma rays which kills the bacteria and then you turn the gamma rays off. No radiation is left behind. Gamma rays are just photons, and photons don't like to stick around. It would be a lot better than any other methods of sterilization, but people are unfortunately ignorant and don't want to associate with anything radiation or nuclear, even though they use radiation to see.
Only good concept seemed to be ultrasonic dishwasher... I want one!! I still wouldn't like to eat from palstic plates or drink tea in plastic mug....in our home we have already central air re-use system from witch you can control home temperature humidity, and get energy from using outgoing heat...
I had read about this house.. never saw this video.. looked kind of cool. What I remember reading about about was how hard it was to destroy this thing when it was closed.. the plastic walls had to be taken apart with chainsaw.
and one zone for irradiated foods. Man these fuckers sure know how to keep their slaves in line. Everything I ever wanted. Irradiated foods, plastic dishs. Plastic walls with foam insulation. Im living high on the hog man!
some of the things we did actually end up having, like the central air and heat, though having a scent in the room would've been cool. and i love the kitchen idea, more counter space! and the phone came about as well. and the built in home entertainment system. so some things were logical. i like this house. wish we had figured out the sonic waves
They also made a movie about plastics and oil and mentioned that without oil a lady won't have her cosmetics. Of course they only joked about running out of oil because back then we didn't think we'd have that problem.
Actually Tesla said sometime in the late 1800's that we must stop using oil because it is dirty and non renewable. I don't remember the exact quote but basically that it's it. It's the same then as now. There are people who know what's right but Many more who don't, and they don't admit it until it's too late.
To be in Disneyland with a suit and a night dress... what a crappy time!

PLASTIC-- This film was produced with the help of MONSANTO... The Monsanto company was a major manufacturer of plastics in the 50s.

some of the things we did actually end up having, like the central air and heat, though having a scent in the room would've been cool. and i love the kitchen idea, more counter space! and the phone came about as well. and the built in home entertainment system. so some things were logical. i like this house. wish we had figured out the sonic waves
