Is it not the most beautiful animal of all? I luuuuuv giraffes. They are mild and tall, and their eyes express such peace that I cannot but get emotional whenever I see one
In the wild Giraffes will kick their newborns. Sometimes numerous times to reinforce standing, walking and keeping up with the herd ASAP. Lions, hyenas and hunting dogs would enjoy a newborn giraffe.
Yesterday at the Sedgwick County Zoo,where I volunteer, Twiga one of our female giraffes gave birth to her 4th calf...and I was lucky enough to be able to watch it...it wasn't really that gross and it was absolutely amazing. I also got to see the new calf's first steps and see it nurse for the first time. It was a truly magical experience.
yeah they do. it's a misconseption that they are always silent and don't make sounds. it's quite scary when they do make sounds, it sounds like someone is dieing.
i love the SF zoo!! i miss itt !! :(

For you're information, it's still dropping to the ground from birth- Ergo it going feet first.
