I used to do chin-ups in a city park in Fla. One evening,on the otherside of a nearby chainlink fence, I saw a small fox sitting there, watching, throughout my hourlong workout. Months later, at the same park, now in the early morning light, while I was doing an identical workout, an adult fox, that I believe to be the young one, grown, sat and watched - but now on MY side of the fence. It seemed so tame, and it was daylight. I regret deeply not attempting to commune with it in some playful way.
@neatoauctions that is a wonderful experience you had, I have no doubt that the larger fox was the little one grown up, Honestly you did the fox a favor by not trying to get closer contact to it. this is a classic mistake the people make with foxes. It would have wanted to taste you, not bit you but if you had got close and put out your hand and the fox was willing it would have come up to you and mouthed your hand. if you pulled away it would have nipped you
@Redmonfox1 if you did not pull away it would have tasted you and possibly allowed you to pet it, now if it nipped you and you go to the DR they you would get rabies shots (NO FUN I HAVE HAD THEM) even though they are not in the stomach anymore, they still suck. And the game Dept would hunt the fox and kill it, they would set live traps in the area and any fox that they catch would be killed.
@Redmonfox1 if all had gone well the fox would then think it safe to approach any human eventually the fox would nip someone and the result it the same. You did the right thing. it is never a good idea to approach wild animals even when they seem to want you to, it almost always end with the animal getting into trouble at some point, but like I said you did the right thing thank you,
@Redmonfox1 and you got to enjoy watching a wild fox like that is just awesome you are very lucky and you made a good decision. I wrote this all out not just for you but so others reading it will know the danger they could put a wild animal in by attempting to get close enough to touch, and I applaud your choice not to try, watch from where you are and everyone stays safe. but my friend that is a great story, thank you for sharing, and thank you for your wisdom in not approaching.

@neatoauctions At day break they are out hunting that is the best time of the day just as the sun is coming up. yes they are out all night but first light is when they get the most food. Rabies No, am animal with rabies looks sick, the froffing at the mouth thing is just before death, so by then they are usually to weak to attack, but if it was just sitting there watching you, then that is what it was doing they are insanely curious.
@Redmonfox1 if you told me it looked at you and cooked its head like it was thinking I would not b surprised, they have a natural curiosity that is their 1 true down fall. foxes love 2 play and they love to explore, like my pets they want 2 get into everything just 2 see what it is and if it can b played with or eaten, or if it is a danger, they r very skittish but at the same time very curios you were entertaining it and then it's OCD kicked in and it was gone to the next thing.
@GundamMerc I found Buddy Dead yesterday, I think he was poisoned, the neighbors dog was going crazy the night before I found buddy dead, now they are both gone.
I would recommend buying a few surveillance cameras to hook up and monitor/record the foxes in various places and angles. If another ends up dead, you'll catch whoever is doing it and have the recordings to take to the police.
@mxgurl89 Buddy and Foxy were my personal pets they are not the breeders however I was going to let them breed this year, I separated them last year so they would not becuase I wanted foxy to be full size before she had kits so that it would not be hard on her body. The rest of the foxes (the breeders are out on the farm far away from anyone that would hurt them, they are safe thank you anyway, I have nothing left to protect, sadly >JIM

I bought 2 males and 2 females that had been raised in captivity and then I breed them carefully not to mix related foxes and I bought some other to increase the number of bloodlines I had. It is Legal to own a fox in Ohio, and most other stated. None of my foxes have ever been wild or in the wild it is illegal to steal a fox from the wild. Most are rescues from fur farms. They make great pets and are loving animals.
How could you keep a fox as a pet? I don't mean morally, I mean, like legally. Isn't it considered a wild animal? How did you do it? And also where did you get her?
I'm so sorry to hear that happened to Foxy, she seemed like a really sweet girl. I can't believe someone would do that to a sweet little fox, it's just horrible. I hope they get what they deserve for that and I hope the pain goes away.
I'm sorry for your loss. It seems to me that someone thought she should of been wild and attempted to dump her back into such, but Foxy just wanted to be home with you. It's sad how some people can be so ignorant about such things, since she was like you're baby, not a pened up wild fox. I'll miss seeing her, and once again I am sorry for your loss.

Same here. Thanks to fox hunting, the population of Swift Foxes here in Texas is declining, and not in a good way. I was hunting deer, and I came across a Swift Fox with rabies, so I had to put it out of it's misery. Hopefully, that will be the only time I'll have to kill a fox.
But since I did not have proof or a confession the police could do nothing. I miss my baby every day, and so does Riley my dog and Buddy Foxy's mate. we all miss her, she was a shinning star. Buddy is also a great fox and actually even more friendly then foxy because she one came to me and the person that got her killed but Buddy will go to anyone. Foxy knew her way around town and she knew how to get home and I know she was trying to get home when she got hit, and she was not even on the road and she still had her collar on with her name tag and rabies tag, she was more than 3 feet off the road and crushed into the ground when I found her. I cried like a baby, and it breaks my heart every time I think about it. The person that did it was the only person that Foxy would have trusted besides me that is how I know who did it, and they talked
The person that did it used to help me with the babies, and I even gave her one for doing so, but when her son wanted to go live with his Dad and his dad needed a place to live where he could have his son I let them move in with me until they could get their own place, and for that she took my baby from the back yard and dropped it off out in the country and it got hit by a car just 1/2 a mile from getting home to me. this person took the cable off Foxy and put it on Buddy so he was trapped.
it breaks my heart every time I think about it. I know how you feel about your babies so you can imagine how I feel, there is nothing I can do to make that pain go away, there is not a day that goes by I don't think of her and like I said it is devastating. I have tried to put hate and anger out of my life since I came home from the war, and I have tried to be the best person I could be, but killing my Foxy has earned a hate that will never be satisfied, and I am sorry to think like that but.

She was a happy little girl, it was obvious in your videos, and no matter how brief of time she spent with you, she knew what true love felt like. That Foxy is so ornery! She is literally using the leash as an extra appendage to corral little Buddy and to position him where she wants him isn't she! Heaven forbid Roxy and Kevie would get together, it would be an all night party and poor old Bridgie wouldn't get any rest! lol! Buddy is adorable though!
