Im having a difficult time trying to figure this out. So flash powder with ammonium perchlorate instead of potassium perchlorate makes it a high explosive, not low? will it still explode with a fuse (and no blasting cap)? And if not, will a standard kclo4/al flash powder cap charge of like 50mg do the trick? Thanks
Ammonium perchlorate flash powders are significantly more destructive than their alkali cousins. This is due to the fact that ammonium perchlorate decomposes entirely to gas, while in a conventional flash, no gaseous products are formed. For high order use, add a much smaller percentage of aluminum to get a very OB positive mix. This increases gas output and safety, and decreases cost.
@iwasapenny: I'm not going to pretend to understand DDT kinetics very well-I consider myself quite a beginner in energetics, but would you say that using a uniform size distribution and particle morphology would be superior or inferior to a heterogenous mixture of carefully chosen characteristics? I obviously didn't do that here as I was just goofing off but I'd be very interested to know what you have to say on this-if you should find the time....:)
@Eynigma Try ammonium perchorate cheddite with a little bit of aluminum, the petroluem jelly makes the perchlorate stick to itself allowing you to press it to a high density, this will give you a very powerfull detonation.
Was the composition loose or pressed into the container?

@Eynigma what Eynigma here meant was heterogenous within the same metals?

I was extremely surprised myself.

I didn't know standard flash was such as good initiator of ammonium perchlorate.

@PyroChemicals: maybe I should try to find it's critical DDT diameter, just for the hell of it....
Eynigma 1 year ago
@Eynigma The critical diameters of Amperch charges are kinda small, but it is very brisant, so everything within that diameter gets shredded.

@Nitricthunder : I have seen this to be the case also.

@Nitricthunder : on the agenda for tomorrow: my account has accidentally been assigned to a friend's email. I AM Eynigma. New channel.
