  • wow i just cut up my face thanks

  • Nice! Always wanted to try and make my own. I mostly use clear passage but the price went up and you get 30 now instead of 40. I cut a piece of plastic from a margarine tub and a cheapo bandaid. Works like a champ! Better than breath right or clear passage. Feel like I shot some nasal spray up the schnoz! lol

  • @downvan77 LOL! I like the comparison to the nasal spray. Great idea, using plastic from a margarine tub. Isn't it wonderful when the nose feels open like a wind-tunnel!

  • you can purchase 20 strips on ebay and get coupons for a starting bid of $2.00 and $1 for shipping;

Breathe Right Advanced Clear Nasal Strips /20 Strips Lot + 10/$1.50 off coupons!

    -proseller4803

  • @proseller4803 Thanks for the info!

  • your video prompted me to do some of my own creating... I had a used "extra" breath right strip, I carefully removed the 3 plastic strips then attached those to some 1" clear gauze tape, works better than the original as I spread them out a little more, I will be wearing one every night now as 2 rolls of 1" tape cost $5.56 and the breath right plastic strips are reusable in this manner, breath right strips work OK for me as I don't wake up with that hangover headache feeling when I sleep with em

  • @nineball26 "That hangover headache" is exactly what I get sometimes. Great way to put it!

  • alcahol on cleansing wipes work very well for cleaning your skin... its a shame the health care industry doesnt just make a clear rigid tape, its rediculous a pack of ten breath rights cost $6.00, its no wonder so many suffer from apnea, home remadies are a great solution to helpo insure we get as much ozygen at night while we sleep, no one cares what they look like when they sleep, plain old gauze tape can be substituted for band aids to save more money...

    Thanks for making this tutorial...

  • @nineball26 I sometimes get headaches too if I don't wear a strip on my nose.

  • I was about to reverse engineer the strips for economic reasons. Thanks to you, I won't have to try. Bravo!

  • @planetiowa Thanks, I'm glad I saved you some trouble.

  • I thank you, noble Sir. I shall procure a tin of Pringles, come the morrow.

Well, I bid you good day kind Sir.

May God grant you many healthy sons.

  • @mongerlol Thanks! And love the way you speak--enjoy the Pringles; I did :)

  • @mongerlol KAY THEN THAT'S WIERD

  • Thanks! adhesive tape can be substituted for the band aid to make it even less expensive!

  • Thank you sooooooooooooo much for posting!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @brandon11182 Sure!

  • you are my hero !!! I just spent 25 euros for a package of 30 !!! jesus what a thievery !!! again tnx a lot

  • @Zirboman Seriously! 25 euros! Wow, this does come in handy in that case. Glad it helped.

  • will breathe right make my nose look wider permanently?

  • @paokthes Hey there, thans for your question. I'm not sure if they will make your nose look wider; it hasn't happened to me (that I can tell, and I've used them for years), but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask a doctor/plastic surgeon.

  • Thank you :)

  • @numeristacom Sure :)

  • God bless people like you who come up with good, helpful ideas and share them. Thank you for posting.

  • @VinnieFavalesnutsack Thank you.

  • thanks, thortenor. when is it supposed to start clearing up your nose though?

  • @TheLalahaha13

Sure. It actually just opens your nostrils wider, so that it's easier to breathe. It doesn't clear up your nose, per se. I have a problem where my nostrils are a little more closed than I'd like, so it really helps--and that's what Breathe Right strips do too.

Your issue might require more attention. I'd talk to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor; it may be that you need your adenoids looked at, or you have a seriously deviated septum (or something else).

  • Will some one please explain this to me in words how to make this because I don't get it. If you can't do it tonight then just forget it. please my nose is really stuffed up.

  • @TheLalahaha13 Get a band aid, attach a piece of plastic to it and put that on your nose. The piece of plastic has to be smaller than the band aid and it has to have a springy quality to it--the top to a Pringle's can works well.

I don't know how to be more clear than that. Perhaps you can have a friend watch the video for you, and help you out.

    Good luck, buddy.

  • cool

  • @TangleWoodTail1

I have a deviated septum, and these help me to that extent too. Glad they helped.

Your "RX dumb doctors" cracked me up. Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you too, buddy!

  • cut out " ta ta ta ta" LOLZ

  • how does the bandaid and pringle top help you breathe?

  • @guitarsession100 It works like a breathe right strip: you adhere a piece of flexible plastic to your nose with a bandaid; it widens your nostrils and thereby allows air to pass more freely to and from your nose.

  • A gooe idea, worked for me with slight change. I used the springy sticks in an old breath rite strip, cut to size and then follow directions. They have the proper amount of spring to keep nostrils open and you wont ruin your Pringle supply.

  • @joeb1352

Yes, that's an excellent idea, and makes the most sense for various reasons. Here's the problem I had--because I honestly did try that route at one point; I wanted to get the strip completely clean, because it would be on my nose-skin. So I tried to get all the sticky goo off of it (There are actually two thin strips), but was having a tough time, so I just went back to my Pringles strip. I probably just need to get some good tough goo-remover. I'm lazy. I'll try it again. Thanks.

  • I use sport tape (like boxers use on their hands) and a strip of plastic from those shell packaging that electronics and other things come in. Experiment with sizes of tape and plastic. Sport tape is awesome because its cheap (from dollar store) and the plastic is basically free. Make as many as you want. Pennies each. The sport tape is the key. Don't use expensive band aids.

  • Nice vid -why not add a drop of menthol oil or Olbas oil to the top of the strip once applied too? Not too much so it doesn't affect the adhesive. I am going to try this to give extra air flow.

  • @d123h456

Great idea! Let me know how the additions to the application go.

  • thanks! Gonna try it. Breathe Right stips are just too freakin expensive. But I just never "wake up" without them. Groggy all day. Been tired all week.

    Gonna buy some Pringles tomorrow!

  • I guess 5 bucks is too much to pay to save the trouble?

  • @Caliphrate

I understand your point. To be completely honest, I still do purchase Breathe Right strips from time to time--they're awesome and very convenient. This one time I woke up though and realized I was out of them; it was in mid-sleep haze that it occurred to me that this might work. I thought it would be fun to video my idea and share it. You could call this something of an homage to Breathe Right Strips.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Caliphrate.

  • @thortenor

    Yeah, that's true.

  • @Caliphrate You mean $5 every few days. Every once and a while, $5 for a box can be handy, but if you use it everyday (for snoring), it can add up. I'll have to give this a try, but will use a roll of cloth tape which will probably run me about $2 for a month, if not longer.

  • great vid

I love breathe right but they are really too expensive..

  • "Also..you may or may not wanna eat the pringles. I did cuz they're very tasty!"

LOL!! ;) Good Video! Great resourceful item to have @ home.

  • @Rired89

    Thanks, buddy :)

  • @Rired89 Thanks! (I don't see a response anywhere to your comment, so here's another :)

  • "transpore" tape is something that I've found works even better than a bandaid.....(it's the tape that hospitals use to stabalize iv needles into place....it'll hold a stronger spring too...:)

    Breathe well humanoids......

  • @leahcim3360

This msg must have gone to my spam in my email account, sorry. It's an EXCELLENT piece of advice! Where can I get transpore tape?

  • I love breathe rights but man they want too much for them!! gonna try this out tonight before bed 8)

  • Tried pieces of duct tape at either end of a plastic strip but that did not hold down. I'm thinking now that using Nozovent internal nostril expanders would be a better solution.

  • Hey there, sorry it's not working for you. I don't know why band aids aren't as adhesive in Australia. I had the same problem actually until I really made sure to wash and dry my nose. If I don't get me nose really clean and oil-free then the it comes off part way through the night. If that's not it though then I hope the nostril expanders work for you.

  • Good idea but can't find tape or sticking plaster in Australia with enough sticking power. Any suggestions?

  • Comment removed

  • @mambalio

i guess you can try using duct tape? not sure if its skin safe or not, use at your own discretion

  • Bandaids in Australia don't seem to have the sticking power to hold down the plastic, or even cardboard, strip. Can anyone recommend a strong, but skin safe, tape or plaster?

  • hey does any1 know how do these things actually work

and my doctor (i think this is fony) says theses help with cold or blocked noses

    (hes asian)

im not racist i my self am asian but a more trustworthy one i think

  • Hey thanks, great idea. Breathe Rights are great but too expensive for a piece of plastic and tape. I used medical tape instead of band aids to save even more money.

  • @droidgenetx

Brilliant! I'll have to try that. Does the medical tape stick well enough?

  • Wow i've been buying the strips for the past 3 years but I'm going to try this thanks:)

  • I have often thought of buying nasal strips and seeing if they are effective but I've been deterred by the price. I've thought, "How can some sticky strip cost this much." So I've given it a miss. But your make-your-own strip is the ticket.. Good one!

  • @iankyoko

Thanks for the comment. I hope it works for you. I know that when I wear something to keep my nose more open, it makes an incredible difference in how I sleep.

  • Thanks, this will allow me to make a latex free version. The website for BR said there is some latex in the packaging. I think I will try medical tape instead of a bandaid.

  • @eeoprr

Thanks for the comment. I have a cousin who has allergies to latex so I can understand your concern. Thanks again.

  • It works, thanks man ;)

  • @KaremWolff Thanks for the response; I'm glad it works for you.

  • you never used the marker?

  • @RealEros1

You're right; I never actually used it in the video (in the interest of time), but at point 1:23 you'll see me demonstrate how I use it when I do.

    Good catch!

  • Why dont u just go 2 the store DARRR!

  • Because the store doesn't make these. Stores sell Breathe Right Strips. The cheapest I've been able to find are on Amazon: $10 for 30 which equals 33 cents per strip. Band aids on Amazon are $5.19 for 100 which equals 5.19 cents per strip. Over a year you spend $18.93 on band aids, but a whopping $121.33 on Breathe Right Strips. That's a difference of over $100.00. Simple mathematics DARRR!

  • @thortenor But breathe right strips work alot better and I'm not going through all that hassel when I know that somebody already did that work and is selling it... In Michigan theyr'e only 2.00 a pack... DARRR

  • @MewRoxx Sure! You gotta do what ya gotta do. Have a good one, buddy!

  • Do you think I should wash my nose first?

  • I always do. It sticks better - and stays on more likely - that way.

  • Yeah this worked great alright but now I need to go on a diet because after one year of making my own breathe right strips I gained 137 pounds from eating all the pringles I bought. What the hell, I couldn't let them go to waste...right??

  • @spidersinspace

    He he, fun comment. Thanks.

  • @spidersinspace LOL dude

  • smart vary smart

  • @blackleafproduction Thank you :)

  • I love you man!

  • @Boozjee Love you, too, buddy.

  • I ate them because they are very tasty....

  • @McLovine46 Ha! You like them too, eh?

  • Does it work on persons who have problems with their breathing when they sleep?? not snooring.

  • @akatanomastos77

I have problems with breathing when I sleep; if I don't wear this I sometimes get oxygen-deprivation headaches.

  • Great idea! I tweaked it a bit as follows making it feel every bit as effective as the Breathe Rights. Try this:

Shorten the plastic strip as much as possible -depending on your nose size, then cut a little thinner so as to sandwich it between the bandaid and other wide tape -like the white stuff. Sandwich sticky to sticky sides EXCEPT for outer ends of bandaid, leaving bare in order to stick to nose.

  • Hi thanks for the idea. I have tried it and it does work like a charm! Thanks for posting your idea, I knew there had to be a way around paying for nasal strips.

  • Awesome. I'm glad it worked for you.

  • The best way to make these stick to your nose is to clean your nose with cotton or a tissue and rubbing alcohol.

  • Thanks! Soap and water has been working fine for me for years, but if it ever should be a problem I'll be sure to use your advice.

    Thanks again.

  • kool

id use that 4 my parents thry sre loud snoreres

  • Ha! I know a lot of people who snore, and they say it helps.

    Good luck.

  • if you were here i would kiss you no homo..lol thanks bud..

  • Thanks. I'm glad you like it.

  • You're very generous for sharing this simple tip. Breathe Right Strips are great but they are hosing people on them. They're just bandaids with plastic in em, which is what your video shows. I'm in Canada and these things are incredibly expensive. I was thinking that there must be a way to make these things easily and on the cheap. Indeed there is. I'm probably going to use medical tape as someone else wrote: 3m microfoam surgical tape. Very generous!

  • Thanks. Hope it works for you.

  • toupee tape!

  • @murphicus Yeah.

  • I can't even express how well this is going to help me sleep. Thank you for your ingenuity.

  • Thanks so much; I have a tough time sleeping without it.

  • i love you man, lolol (no homo)

  • No "homo" taken. Thanks, man.

  • Better yet just reuse the strips using 2-way tape!

  • Good thinking. Thanks.

  • Good idea! Thanks! :-)

  • Glad you like it. Thanks.

  • or you can wash your dishes at night with the water as hot as it can go and breath the steam then take a paper clip tape and some vix take the paper clip and bend so that its in the chape of a 'V' (one bend) then put the tape on the bottom part of the paper clip and apply vix and u will breathe make it so that the paperclip is trying to bend back a little dont squeeze it so u cant breath

  • Wow. That sounds like it would work. Good thinking.

  • does it work as the real one?? anyone have tried it??

  • well my dad use to snore like a bitch now he dosent snore he only snores when it falls from hes nose ! lol

  • Wow. Thanks for the endorsement.

  • What a cool idea! I was just going to order a 90 pack but I may just give this a try and maybe even try with different flexible materials. How is the plaster on your nose skin after repeated use?

  • Thanks :)

It works OK on my nose. It's a little itchy sometimes, but so is the original breathe right.

I actually have noticed that Wal-mart has started selling a product (a lot cheaper than the original) that works in exactly the way I have created it: it's basically bandaid material on a piece of flexible plastic.

  • ツ

  • This is great stuff here Thortenator. Imma try it right now.

  • Thanks Markitymark90, and I hope it works for you :)

  • Nice! It is always good to know there are people in the world trying to help others selflessly and with love.

    Peace!

  • Thanks! I really enjoy doing stuff like this.

    Thanks again, youngkim

  • I found that a better adhesive to use is 3m Microfoam - It sticks great and runs about 8cents per piece ($15/roll - 3"x198") I use one every night too!

  • Great idea, thanks!

By the way, if you want to see something really clever, a 0 percent credit card offer tried to trick people, but this guy turned it around on them and beat the system...one for the little guy! If you click the link to the right of the video above, you'll see the clever story.

  • Excellent suggestion! That's what I was thinking too. Also, you could just use the little plastic pieces that come in the breathe right strips. Just cut them out and re-use them!

  • That should work. Good thinking.

  • Wow, great video, thank you. I'll try it and let you know.

  • Rolling your own is a big bother. Breathe Right could bring down the price of the store bought ones. They don't need to be individually wrapped like a bandaid, they don't go onto an open wound. And they don't need to be in pricy boxes. They could sell a lot more of them if they'd put 50 or 100 unwrapped ones loose in a bag.

  • Thanks Works Great!

  • I'm glad to hear that. Thanks for commenting!

  • Try buying these strips in Canada...list price is $23 for 30 and I use one every night! Have you ever thought of reusing the old strips by applying some kind of temporary skin glue?

  • Wow, I knew they were expensive, but that's ridiculous! All the more reason to come up with an alternative. Good thinking.

  • it would work better if you attached this assembly to the back of another bandaid also it would allow you to double up on the plastic for more spring

  • That's a good idea. I did try once to double up on the plastic with a single bandaid, but it proved too much for the bandaid (just came off my nose), and was a little intense spring-wise. Adding a second bandaid might change things though.

    Excellent thinking, thanks!

  • Interesting, but doesn't the plastic hurt and dig into your nose?

  • It's gotten mildly itchy once or twice (so has the real thing), but other than that it hasn't been a problem. It doesn't seem to dig into my nose, probably because it's pulling away from the nose.

    Good question,

    Thanks.

  • Haha "you may want to eat the pringles because they're very tasty". Does it actually help you breath better (besides the snoring part).

  • It does help me breathe better - as breathe rights do - and yes, pringles are very tasty :)

  • I tried this using plastic from a clam shell remote control package and I think it actually works better than the authentic Breathe Right strips (which are ridiculously overpriced). Thanks a lot for the tip1 :)

  • Good thinking! And you're right, waaaayyy overpriced.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  • cheers

  • Many thanks for this excellent and ridiculously simple idea! Why didn't I think of it? I found it works with clear plastic fizzy drinks bottles also. You can get dozens of strips from one of those!

  • Thanks, and great idea on the clear-plastic-fizzy-drinks-bottle plastic. I'll try that. You're right, it's as simple as a Speed Bump!

  • thanks for the tip i'll try it. i just discovered breathe right and it's just amazing how good i sleep at night now!

  • If you think that's clever, see how this other guy turned the tables on a credit card company. The credit card company offered him a 0% balance transfer, but there was a secret string attached. He figured out the secret though, and turned the tables on the credit card company. It was hilarious. If you look up to the right of the video, under About This Video, you can see what he did. The story doesn't fit in this comment, sorry :(
