Yea, I see what you mean. I think it one of my first videos. You turn the camera on then suddenly get tongue tied. lol ! I guess it was okay in the end. Seems like lots of positve feedback. Thanks for your feedback bro !

  • Did you put nylon string on your guitar?

  • Thanks Paisan! I love these classic songs and your tips on strumming patterns adds great interest to my playing and makes it just more fun!

  • Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!

  • You seem like a really happy person. I envy that. : (

  • I see a lot of people teaching this song using a caper on the 2nd fret... but Denver didn't use a caper, nor did he start on a G (or C) chord. I've watched his hands repeatedly and he plays a A, F#m, E, D, A (verse) and A, E, F#m, D, A (chorus). I'm interested in playing this song with others eventually and want to learn it the "correct" way. Or at least the most common way. Am I just completely on the wrong page or....? Thanks for your advice in advance.

  • @Preirin Capo - not caper - d'oh!

  • @Preirin

John Denver must have played the song in the key of A. My 1st chord in the song is a G, making the song in the key of G , BUT with the capo on 2nd fret that makes it the key of A just like John Denver. So it's the same thing either way. Which ever way is the most comfortable for you is the best. The sound will be essentially the same. It's Folk music, not classical, so you can change the key by moving the capo around to whichever fret suits your voice the best,

  • @Huper88

Let's see I think I had been playing about 4 years when I made this video. Like most people I think I played a lot at times, then not at all for other periods. You know how that goes.

  • Great lesson. I've looked up others on YouTube but like yours best. BUT, what are the chords you are playing? The strumming tips are very useful. And the tip on making the thumbpick (in the comments section) was appreciated too.

  • @trade0714

This video is a bit old now so the way to see the lyrics & chords has changed. Do you see the number of viewers at the lower right of the video ? (It says 53191 right now.) Well just beneath and to the right just a tad is a little sign with 2 arrows pointing downward. Click on the little double arrow sign and the lyrics with the chords will scroll out for you to see. (I hope).

  • whats up with the donkey

  • Oh it just happened to be up on the wall in my kids's room. I liked it for "folksy" appeal I guess.

  • @AcryforhelpAaahhh

Awsome lesson! Thanks tons for taking the time to share this lesson! I'm a beginner and not looking for perfection either, just improvement and this helps a ton, I really enjoyed your enthusiasm in sharing this!

  • thats sick learning this right now

  • you are fantastic!! Im a 37 year old male who just started playing about 3 months ago and im really picking it up quite fast but i got to tell you that your lesson is one of the best that i watched and it seems that you got quite a passion for it yourself.Thank you so much for the lesson and keep up the great work!!!

  • KEEP'EM COMING!!!!

  • Love it !

    Well done! :)

  • Super erklärt Danke

  • well done. i think you are a natural teacher. it also helps to see you enjoy yourself. not too sure about the key change for females. i know some that sing lower than the depths of hell

  • Enthusiasm and comlete details in your lesson. You really care about teaching a song.

Makes a big different for a beginner like myself.

    Thank you!

  • I'm somewhat of a novice at all this. What I do know how to play, I fingerpick. I notice the. . . thing you have on your thumb, is that sort of a fingerpicker's pick? I mean that because it's still the same motion that I use when I strum, but seems only usable for the downstroke. What is that thing, haha. Also, would you recommend learning to use a regular pick if one is prone to liking fingerpicking? Sorry for all the questions! I ask bc you are thorough and very helpful! Thx!

  • I wanted to play with my thumbnail but my nails grow very thin and don't work for the guitar. The pick I use is a regular picking thumb pick with a bit sawed off super-glued (after sandpapering) to a regular plastic pick about .50 mm in thickness. To make it fit my thumb I by placing it in hot water, then quickly wrapping it around my thumb. You're right it works easiest for the downstroke but with practice works fine for upstroke and even easier picking. Fingerpicking & strumming is best!

  • I love it! this helped me sooooo much

"god bless" ben.

  • By the way you look like native indian or polynesian, maori something like that... What is your origin ?

  • You're right! My mother is from the Kickapoo tribe of Kansas, my father is of German origin from South Dakota, although I grew up in Alaska. I guess I have sort of rural American roots. You have a good eye for facial features. Very cool you are interested in an American folk song, right on, and keep playing and singing! It's a pleasure to hear from you Jonathan.

  • I'm intersting by native indian way of life and culture before happened what we know. I have never been to U.S.A., Canada and Alaska, but in those places there are some things who attracted me, like others things in others countries also.

There is some songs that I like among others in america. Me, my mother is french (her grandmother from switzerland) and my father is turkish. Did you grow up with indian culture, do you speak Anishinaabe or kind of ?

  • Cool, there are a lot of nice places and nice people in America and Canada, especially in the rural areas. If possible, let's keep the discussion around guitar playing. I don't feel much inclined to delving into my ancestors and culture over the internet. Sorry if I come across as rude. But still, thanx for your comments and interest! It's nice of you to be so interested.

  • About guitare, I just have started to learn. I have small fingers, so it is hard to doing chords.

  • Hi,

I'm from france and was looking how to play it with right hand.

So with you I understood the way to play.

Thank you, do not stop your videos.

    Jonathan

  • Thanks carliros102! Yes Lucy turned 5 yesterday. I hope she takes up music, so far so good. If you have any suggestions how to improve my videos let me know.

  • Hey Acryforhelp, very good videos. Thank you. It will help a lot of us. I like this song and played it a couple of times, but only by reading, I don't know it. I also saw on your other video a beautiful young lady was signing with you. That was cute..... You should get her into music, she is adorable.
