The notebook is a weapon of the gods. The god allowing the human to use it gives that human automadic status of a god. Even if human he has a gods weapon, and if he's killing people with it then it was their time to die. 'The Death Note can kill before someone is suppoused to die though!' items of gods change fate. I know, Im not saying that's what really happened. Im just saying it as if it were the real world. It was dropped for anyone to get and use as they saw fit, but in a sence it was Light's job to entertain that god.
