I still can't figure out why George Cables and Ronnie Mathews aren't "famous" like Herbie and Chick. Some of it has to do with staying away from electric instruments.
George Cables is quite underrated, imo. He's incredibly inventive with his improvisations and he's got some chops. He's fluid and lively and can bop hard or soften it sweet.
George Cables is one of the "tightest" musician there is and what I admire the most about him is he's not a "carbon copy" of some other pianist, he holds his own.
music business is not about creativity so you who create go where you go

Pitiful!.......yes that's me, i just got hip to George Cables about a week ago.
I just happened to stumble upon him while looking through some other jazz stuff.

I came upon some live recordings of Freddie Hubbard with cables from the 1970s. The're really special.
