Giving the creator/owner credit is not the same as giving him money. You're supposed to pay the owner of the song money when you use it or else that's called stealing. Lip service is cheap and illegal.
I'm quite sure he paid and is still paying royalties for this song. Hell I read he buried Muddy when he passed away.. He had/has the utmost respect Muddy and blue artists like him.

Pro musicians, radio stations, etc. who play copyrighted music pay royalties to the "owner" through one of the music copyright organizations.

A lot of artists play other people's songs at shows, it doesn't mean they are "stealing" the song, they just really like it.
