It is the nature and theology of the religions and their implementation that is vastly different. Where does Christianity steal freedom? True Christianity is offered as a gift of grace. No body of ancient literature in the world enjoys such a wealth of good textual attestation as the NT. The method of translation for the KJV was literal translation. See the word, translate the word. No paraphrasing. The texts used for the KJV were not corrupted by insertion of fictional passages to support doctrines. The KJV text and translation are highly reliable.

The biography of Alexander the Great is considered highly reliable by scholars, though written 400 years after his death. I believe there are no more than three copies in existence. The NT is unique in terms of rapidity of composition (decades, not centuries) and textual support, including documents from secular sources, some of which are unfriendly to its doctrine and theology.
@hicks727 No, the KJV is taken from what is called the Textus Receptus (Received Text). It traces a very pure lineage back to the church of Antioch (Acts 11:26). The other versions are taken from what is called the Greek Text. The two codexes that are its foundation are both grossly corrupted documents, that contradict each other repeatedly. They're based out of Alexandria, Egypt and are thoroughly unreliable, not just theologically but in terms of any ancient document. Lots of details here.

Though low-tech, the means by which the scribes translated scripture was full of continuous checks, more checks, and rechecks by other scribes on top of that. These were sacred tasks and treated accordingly. The number of textual variations is negligible, with no major church doctrines being threatened. Content aside, the texts themselves are excellent.
@hicks727 Yes, I do take scripture literally. Certainly there are areas that contain symbolic references (Revelation and some of the prophetic visions), but the Bible is not simply a book. If you understood the nature of blood covenants (which the Bible is) you would understand that specificity and accuracy of language is not only desirable but of a necessity. Lawyers spend great time on legal documents going over each word. Any misstep negates the binding nature and legality of the document.

I think God has enough sense to write a book that people are capable of understanding and believing.

@imreadyyo26 There is nothing in my posts that says that either Jesus or his disciples never fasted. You are lying if you say otherwise. Jesus fasted 40 days (Matthew 4:2). He taught the disciples to fast (Matthew 6:16), although they actually were questioned as to why they did not fast (Matthew 9:14). My point is that fasting, while having its place in spiritual life, does not in and of itself cleanse a man of sin. None of your own deeds can, regardless of how noble or sincere in nature.

The vast majority of the time (with one exception) all of the acts of the Israelites were either against attackers or against oppressive foreign rule (look at the Book of Judges). God didn't send the Israelites to prosyletize by force. Mohommad led attacks on the cities of Medina and Mecca and forced the citizens to accept Islam or die. It is the nature and theology of the religions and their implementation that is vastly different. Where does Christianity steal freedom? True Christianity is offered as a gift of grace. No body of ancient literature in the world enjoys such a wealth of good textual attestation as the NT. The method of translation for the KJV was literal translation. See the word, translate the word. No paraphrasing. The texts used for the KJV were not corrupted by insertion of fictional passages to support doctrines. The KJV text and translation are highly reliable.

The biography of Alexander the Great is considered highly reliable by scholars, though written 400 years after his death. I believe there are no more than three copies in existence. The NT is unique in terms of rapidity of composition (decades, not centuries) and textual support, including documents from secular sources, some of which are unfriendly to its doctrine and theology.

@hicks727 No, the KJV is taken from what is called the Textus Receptus (Received Text). It traces a very pure lineage back to the church of Antioch (Acts 11:26). The other versions are taken from what is called the Greek Text. The two codexes that are its foundation are both grossly corrupted documents, that contradict each other repeatedly. They're based out of Alexandria, Egypt and are thoroughly unreliable, not just theologically but in terms of any ancient document. Lots of details here.

@hicks727 Language to language translations are not a problem. Hebrew especially has a depth of meaning not found in any other language. Though low-tech, the means by which the scribes translated scripture was full of continuous checks, more checks, and rechecks by other scribes on top of that. These were sacred tasks and treated accordingly. The number of textual variations is negligible, with no major church doctrines being threatened. Content aside, the texts themselves are excellent.

@hicks727 Yes, I do take scripture literally. Certainly there are areas that contain symbolic references (Revelation and some of the prophetic visions), but the Bible is not simply a book. If you understood the nature of blood covenants (which the Bible is) you would understand that specificity and accuracy of language is not only desirable but of a necessity. Lawyers spend great time on legal documents going over each word. Any misstep negates the binding nature and legality of the document.

I think God has enough sense to write a book that people are capable of understanding and believing.

The Bible clearly teaches Isaac is the heir of Abraham, but then the Muslims would have to acknowledge the Jewish claim to Israel. This they will not do because it puts the lie to Islam. This is one example of many in Bible (OT or NT) vs Koran differences. Your statement is either a lie or you are ignorant as to what each teaches.

Only by making Jesus the Lord of your life and being born again can man have a right relationship with God (John 3:3). It is a gift of grace, not an earned reward. @imreadyyo26 There is nothing in my posts that says that either Jesus or his disciples never fasted. You are lying if you say otherwise. Jesus fasted 40 days (Matthew 4:2). He taught the disciples to fast (Matthew 6:16), although they actually were questioned as to why they did not fast (Matthew 9:14). My point is that fasting, while having its place in spiritual life, does not in and of itself cleanse a man of sin. None of your own deeds can, regardless of how noble or sincere in nature.

@imreadyyo26 I didn't make up my own interpretation. I simply believed what God said in His word and I got results He said I'd get. That's available to you, tooBTW. God offers you the same deal I got. As far as it being easy, Jesus did all the work through the cross and his resurrection. He did what I wasn't able to do, which was make myself acceptable to God. Through my reception of His gift of grace, I've been made a member of the kingdom of God (Colossians 1:13). I know Jesus and He knows me.

@hicks727 And there was a lot of swords and force in the OT. The vast majority of the time (with one exception) all of the acts of the Israelites were either against attackers or against oppressive foreign rule (look at the Book of Judges). God didn't send the Israelites to prosyletize by force. Mohommad led attacks on the cities of Medina and Mecca and forced the citizens to accept Islam or die. Jewish/Christian martyrs will die for their beliefs. Muslims make others die for their beliefs.

@hicks727 As far as not caring for infidels, you are in error. My God loves all and desires that none should perish but that all should come to salvation. The actions in Eziekiel follow an unprovoked attack by a Russian/Islamic confederation upon Israel. These actions are of a defensive nature to protect His people in Israel. Entirely different from the offensive attacks (9/11, Khobar Towers, USS Cole, etc.) of Islam terrorists under allah's direction.

@hicks727 II Peter 3:9. God's doing everything He can to get people to Him. But they're going to have to do it His way, through His Son. It's available to all, but all have to choose, including you and me. And the God of the OT/NT is not the same God as allah. He's not some vague being that is what we say he is. We're not God, He is. We don't make up our own god. He makes the rules, not us. The claimed truth of each religion is exclusive of the other. They don't agree. One's right, one's wrong.

@clstrat939 Ok...All cultures have their own religion. If you were born in Pakistan you would probably be muslim or hindu. Your religion comes from your geography not truth. I don't necessarily question the history or the geography of the bible I question the supernatural aspect of the bible. Christianity has the virgin birth(borrowed) and easter(done that)....Islam, virgins..Mormons..bla bla..It's the BELIEF and FAITH that gets religious people through their day not an actual god.

@hicks727 If culture made religion then there would be no Pakistani or Japanese Christians. The fact that it is not exclusive to a region undermines your point. If you are skeptical of the supernatural, then how do you explain the numerous prophecies then give in detail Jesus' birth (including locale), ministry, death, and resurrection? 129 of them totally fulfilled, to specify. How about Daniel's vision of the Babylonian, MedoPersian, and Grecian empires hundreds of years before they occured?

@clstrat939 Culture does make religion. If you were born and raised in Pakistan you would be a muslim. The only way you would be a Pakistani Chritstian is if you were converted . The Founding Fathers did not teach Islam.

@hicks727 Yes, belief and faith. But they can be misplaced, however sincere the belief. What would you say, hicks, if someone sincerely and devoutly thought you were God and had created the world? Humor aside, you'd say their faith was misplaced. Sincerity of belief is not a measure of accuracy. Faith misplaced in faith in emptiness, nothing more than a spiritual and mental placebo. Why don't you want to believe? Is there something in your life you think you'd have to give up? Or just questions?
