If trains ran on electric, the power would be supplied from coal burning power plants: "bad for the envirement". Fact: many freight lines in the United States were electrified back in the 40-70's! It failed because of costs. Guess what? We would still need diesels to switch yards and customers along mainlines. Diesel works because it is cheap and trains are GOOD for the environment no matter what because they take trucks off the roads! Will we electrify our highways next? Haha.

@TheEltopian There is a a great old station. The station was constructed for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1918 and is the third station to be built at this location. On nice days people wait outside

The EMD AEM-7 is the electric model they currently use. These will soon be phased out for new electric locomotives.

Nice I like to see the Coast Starlight and other west coast Amtrak trains. Got to watch for those heritage units! I have some videos of electrified Amtrak on the Keystone Corridor in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. I'll post a video response if you would like.
