The speed limit is 70mph!

@ProTerminalG Yes it is 70MPH now, but when the tunnel initially opened it was 40MPH for the first couple of hours.

The speed limit must be 60mph because the road does not have motorway status. Therefore, the limit is the usual A-class road restriction.

40 mph limit was temporary. Normal running is 70mph and only drips to 40 if there has been an incident or contraflow is in force; much more fun at 70 although people do seem convinced it is a lower limit. Oh well, enjoy!

@MaseratiPete there are only 2 cameras, and strictly speaking they arent actualy speed cameras, there is 1 as you go into the tunnell and 1 as you come out, and they pretty much time you going through the tunnel and determine you average speed, so you could do 50 coming into the tunnell, speed upto 100 and slow back down to 50 and get away with speeding aslong as your average speed was 70 mph or below :)
