I noticed that there were 2 dislikes somehow!!?? WHO EVER SENT THOSE 2 DISLIKES, SHOULD BE....... I'll be nice. How could you not appreciate this awsome peformance. Whatever....! The U.S.M.C band's damn near perfect. Totally superior. 40- 50 musicians and they sound as if they're 300 strong. Well balanced, exellent instrumentation, just amazing!
My husband was a sax player and I played glockenspiel in San Diego in '76. Enjoyed this clip, and reminder of how beautiful the base is. Recognized "Eagle Squadron" after the slow march. We played the same march 35 yrs ago! Thanks for the memories!
Uh.. evidently you have no idea of the location of MCRD San Diego. It is next door to San Diego International Airport. There is no way the Marines can control the flight schedules of commercial aircraft. The airport would love to close MCRD San Diego and expand onto the property. Lets hope it never happens, for the reasons for it to stay open where it is are countless.
@formerdoc who cares! they will need to get used to that sound in combat. alongside the brits. nice to hear "scotland the brave" being played . god bless all the men and women who are fighting for the right all over the world. god bless america and all the european allies. (political correct ?)
My comment was about the parade and video thereof. I had forgotten about the location. Having said that, two things come to mind. This American appreciates the Brits and their military. As for the Marines, having been a full Commander in the US Navy from 1967 to 1969, I know about Marines
@formerdoc thanks for your reply sir, i served fifteen years with the colours and the reserves between 1964 - 1978. this band is serving up the best of military music. re: the US Marines, in 1965 there was an exercise held near the American Navy Base on the Holy Loch, Scotland, between marines from the USS Simon Lake and the 15th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. We know that we won, but, every American that we met at the after battle "booze up" (and that was some party, lasted all night) s

battle are finished, but, the soldiers will
have to hear these noises.
i served 15 yrs with the colours and reserves bet from We know that we won, but, at the after battle "booze up" the Marines said that they had won, after a few drinks, ha!ha! it was declared a draw.
@formerdoc In my platoon which was there from March 2002-June 2002 it was a real pain not being able to hear the commands from the DI's because those damn planes would fly out every 5 minutes. So if you made the wrong movement you got your ass handed to you.
@formerdoc I'll never forget how bad I wanted to get on one of those Airplanes while I was in boot camp there next door to the airport. All of us who ever went to boot camp there definitely remember how annoying it was listening to those all day. Drill Instructors hate them too, but they learn to space their talking out around the rumbling.
the first song is the army of the nile. the slow march piece is scotland the brave and the final song is eagle squadron. i spent 3 years in the albany marine band. we did a few grads at parris island. it was great! trooping the line is the longest 6 or 7 minutes of your life, but the crowds reaction is priceless.
i agree,a good drum major can make or break a band on parade. the whole band are immaculate.there are two marches by major ricketts(kenneth alford) army of the nile, and, after scotland the brave in slow time, the march eagle squadron, its totally right the USMC should play these marches, alford was director of music of one of the royal marines bands for many years. I have watch this video at lease 100 times. I look at it when I need some motivation. I seen alot of Marine Corps bands but, this Drum Major is on of the Smoothes I have seen. Thanks for posting 5561drum..
You may be correct. I sometimes get Army of the Nile and Voice of the Guns confused. Have played both many times. While in MCRD Band Parris Island in 1960 had to memorize the snare drum parts for both.
1st march is Army of the Nile. Played it many a time while with the 1st Marine Division Band in 1961-1962. And I happened to have been a 5561 back then as well. Can't recognize the last march but I am sure I have played it.
I remember the grinder at San Diego as well. Played my first job with 1st Mar Div there as MCRD San Diego band was on leave.

What idiot Public Relations Officer would be dumb enough to have not scheduled the aircraft at a time other than a Graduation Ceremony?

Apologize for smudge on picture. There was a brief shower of rain and did not realize a drop had dried on the lens.
