A truly, truly truly great singer and performer as well (no small thing nowadays my friends). She just knows how to do it, quite simply, employing the traditions of great singers before her and adding her own touches. And she has an E-flat to boot! No one has anything on this lovely creature! The timbre at times recalls Tebaldi or Milanov, which says a lot too! She and Zaijik eat the scenery. I just wish The Met wasn't such an icky place with so many icky not-convincing-socialites. Feels dead.
Thank you and glad to hear Critics don't always rule. Today some people rave about Bocelli and someone named Potts in England. I heard his Nessun Dorma on some TV show and was surprised that they could rave on about his voice, now it also seems looks are so important. Richard Tucker once said to me do the think the clothes will sing? or the sets? Voice is first of course, looks help but without a great voice who cares!
Just as Warren for me was the greatest verdi baritone, Tucker the Spinto great americn tenor, then Millo is the greatest Spinto American born Soprano, yes for me even over Ponselle for rich beauty of tone the voice is hypnotic and just awesome from bottom to top here.
She's a grand singer indeed. Its so reassuring to know that the singer has all the notes, a beautifully schooled voice, does not have to fake or avoid anything. And has beautiful tonal quality as well. Re the odd and uneducated comments with regard to Pavarotti reading the score and therefore not being prepared! Silly of course. Many's the time I have had short notice to sing something I have sung many times in the past but don't want to make mistakes so you prop the score up. Big deal.
Absolutely splendid in the Golden Age tradition of Arangi-Lombardi and Ponselle! Beautiful, great legato, perfect control of the line, and above all, sublime vocal color. A true Verdian soprano in the grand style.

You are my favorite voice of all time. If Callas was la Divina and Joan la Stupenda, you are la Splendida.
