1. Takes a tremendous amount of energy. We're not talking about

2. The distance the asteroid would have to travel would be tremendous. This means even at absurd amounts of speed

3. Aiming it accurately enough to hit a target on earth precisely would be quite difficult.

@HappyFarmsMail cause railguns are not only B.A. they are really hard to take out... after all, how many countries have wepons that can bring down a satelite? (only one i know of is the U.S.A. navy we have an experimental laser cannon that can take down sattelites. Last i heard it was succesfully test fired on a decomissioned U.S. sattelite. Others could have it by now, but if they do. I don't know about it.)
