  • People really need to not talk about things they know nothing about, Diesels are "Detonation Engines" they always "Knock" that's what they are supposed to do, and that's why their so loud. Newer Diesels have pre combustions chambers to reduce the noise level... Your welcome

  • @HitmanJustin You got it all right except the precombustion chambers, that is a thing of the past. Diesels today are almost all common rail, with a high pressure rail (like 30K psi) feeding electronic injectors that can fire up to eight times during the combustion stroke.This is why they are quiet. There is a small shot just before TDC, to get the fire going, then just after TDC it will fire 3 or 4 times, which provides the power, and a little shot to follow to clean up emissions.

  • @HitmanJustin It's also good to remember that a big part of the loudness come from the fuel pump, that is mechanically operated on older engines, that's also why newer electronic engines are less noisy.

  • Another note: the only time you MAY see vacuum in a diesel is between shifts and only on the intake side. Other then that, there is a reason a vacuum pump is needed. But...all bullshit aside...great work on the truck. Love seeing originality and obscure swaps for sure. It really makes no difference what its used for because if someone just simply wants it then nobody should have shit to say. I drive an 06 cummins CR dually and its just to drive...maybe pull my drag car here and there

  • I just love when people talk out of their asses. Diesels need no throttle body because injectors and injector timing control the amount of fuel to complement the amount of air taken in. Also, the type of dragster will depend on what tranny is used eg: any NHRA/IHRA car will normally use a lenco type manual, door slammers will use a convention manual or shift kit built auto with a high stall, or some (top fuel) will use direct drive.

  • Diesels do not have throttle bodies! Which is why they don't have blow off valves!

  • @ilovemybike If by blow off valve , you mean wastegate, my Cummins did. You can hear it each time you step on the clutch. This is what another poster referenced when he mentioned loosing boost. It is lost right out the waste gate to keep from over-revving an unloaded (clutched) motor

  • Sorry bub but diesels are a different animal. Most diesels(not all) have no throttle blades at all, but the acceleration is controled by the injector pump and or the injectors. You still lose boost when you shift though, no matter how fast you shift( 2002 powerstroke 6 speed)that's the only downside.

  • all engines have a throttle of some sort be it a carburator or throttle body. how else would it control fuel to air ratio. still needs a link of a sort to figure acceleration. someone that says there isnt needs some basic automotive knowledge

  • @chevy1985k20 the fuel is injected at the top of the compression stroke. into the hot compressed air which makes your explosion. there is just the injector pump, injectors, and an air intake (usually a turbo)

I don't generally like the newer cars because the electronics feel like a buffer between me and the vehicle. I drive an old 5 speed jeep CJ7. I can feel every bump grind and pull. I love it.

  • @fordmanmudracer. Not to rag on you like everyone is doing right now, but automatic vehicles are not shifting because there programed to. They shift off oil pressure. The more oil pressure you give it the longer you will go before it shift. Like if I took a car and held it to the floor. It would go to 6k before shifting unlike if I was to drive like most cars were intended to be driven. It would shift at 2500 instead.

  • @DieselAftermix And...oil pressure is part of the equation...but a computer determines the outcome per its programmed algorithims...if the line pressure is high a pressure force motor in the valve body can determine that...but if its overheated, the transmission outputs different shift parameters...the computer does have control...line pressure is old school shifting these days...but whatever is programmed is how it shifts...and usually thats for fuel economy...not racing

  • It would be nice to see a post of the cummins installation. Give us a good look under the bonnet to see how the engine was fitted.

    I don't know why you have to go through ALL the gears on the Roadranger. When i drove my kenworth with the 9 speed i would often skip shift if the situation allowed. With the power you seem to have under the bonnet you should be able to skip shift with ease. I would have chosen the Eaton Super 10 or 10 speed spicer. They are a 5 speed with a splitter on each gear

  • The only thing that mattters between automatic and standard is that auto is less wear an tear on an engine because of how it shifts although a good driver on a standard trans can shift with hardly wear an tear also but now adays with computer asist they also can isolate standard shift patterns as well so its just really a matter of choice "take it or leave it"

  • i figured that i would throw my insight out here for the both of you.. there is no proof one transmission is stronger than the other it goes both ways and depends on the company.. the fact that more people by an automatic is a simple fact that they are in more convenience to it. which is why more are built with an auto tranny and not a manual.

  • @ars754 no, thats not true...most maunals will beat a automatic anyday...and with a dry clutch theres less slippage than in an automatic...once that clutch is fully released...you have full engine power through the drivetrain...an auto has slippage until the torque converter is locked up, which isn't usually until the higher gears under a cruise condition...which doesn't happen in a straight line drag...why do you think most supercars have a speed manual of some sort...they put more power down

For racing, an automatic IS faster...when you shift a manual you loose power to the wheel, with a turbo or a super charger, you loose boost when you do that...if you dont believe me or think im an idiot, watch a drag race of a manual trans car. Notice the front end of the vehicle drops when they shift, the auto does not

  • However, for hauling or pullin excessively heavy loads (in a truck) a manual is the way to go...the death of an auto trans is heat....alot of weight makes alot of heat, and usually a manual is built heavier duty dut to gear - gear instead of a hydraulic coupling...

  • @wrx4life44 false bro, with a turbo you need boost for power. when you shift throttle body closes cause a boost blow off or surge or recirculate , then you hammer back down but you got slight lag. with an auto your big fat foot stays planted keepin that boost up dping what it should through all the gears making full power.

  • @shockashoota false, there is much more to it than that the shift time, usually autos take a lot longer to shift that manuals, making the car slower, just because it has more boost in each gear doesn't necessarily make it faster.

  • @02lb72500HD Yeah but the main reason why drag cars use auto trannys is because it has a torque converter; without it the drag cars would have no low end ooomph since they are built primarily for high end horse power. The torque converter before it locks actually stimulates (adds more) torque in the lower power band rpms, that's why they are so valuable in drag cars. I'm sure there's plenty running non-lockup converters for that reason too, even though it causes your motor to rev a little higher

  • I love this video. I am very curious as to how you mated the 10 speed w/ the cummins. Did you make the bell housing? And what did you do for a transfer case, just use a divorced design? I am curious because I plan on doing something very similar to this as my next project. And to people who have negative feedback, just don't watch the video, move on to something that you do like, probably things such as vehicles w/ a 4 banger or something.

  • all i have to say is what are the majority of semi trucks propelled down the road by? manuals. even the automatics are just converted manuals.manuals are better. there is less parasitic loss due to not using a FLUID COUPLER. or for the uneducated a torque converter. more power makes it to the wheels where its put to use not wasted in the drive train. more used power equals better fuel economy. period.
