ibeat the game hoping loop 2 would start, but it just went to game over & the main menu again. alright, thank you so much for answering. btw, your run of the hi speed stage always makes me laugh
how did you get loop 2? on my copy of gradius iii and iv, once i beat the game, it does the credits then says game over. maybe they took loops out on the ps2 version?
What are you playing this on? I've been looking to play this version of Gradius III ever since I saw your videeos but I don't know where to find it or what I need to get to play it. =/
Eh, they both had that problem. The arcade version had it to a lesser extent but it was still very much there. It's one of the big reasons I'm more of a fan of Gradius 2
@akaphaneuf Without the lag stage 7 would destroy you in the arcade verion along with Big Core mk-3.
Funny how people don't like it when the game slows down but have the nerve to call it hard when it doesn't slowdown what do you think it was in there for to help you concentrate on dodging.
I'm just trying to get through the game for the heck of it, but I can't use save states as much as I'd like too since the present textures mess up a bunch when reverting to save.
Oh cool, I didn't know new sections of the stage appeared in the second loop unless you are playing a different version.... =l.
Yeah, I had that problem, too. I found that states saved when a boss is dying are the most reliable. But sometimes you just have to restart the game =/. In these cases, using F10 to put MAME into turbo mode gets you through the intro very fast. (I noticed that saved states don't work unless you load them after stage 1 starts.)
And yes, the stages apparently have some differences in the 2nd loop.
I've had it the worst at stage 3 and I despise at least a couple of parts in there, especially with the spherical enemies popping off circles of bullets while there's already hectic firing. Trust me on this though: Gradius 2 Arcade's 2nd loop makes a magnanimous jump in difficulty on the 2nd loop and you start over without power ups (compared to 3 arcade). Enemies don't spurt off suicide bullets, they just shoot randomly and it's a ton worse this way.
I don't know, but my guess is that it goes on forever and after a certain point the difficulty will be maxed-out, so the rest of the loops beyond that would all be the same.

@Bill307 I think the game's difficulty would have made survival virtually impossible before the limit is reached.

just keeps going until you give up, and it gets harder up to the 3rd time

Without the ocassional slowdown certain areas of this game would be nearly impossible.

Even the arcade version has slowdown ? :(
