@kdiopgh yeah, you shouldnt do acid just because you have it. if you can keep it in a dark place its better to save it until you have friends to do it with. one of the reasons I've only had that one bad trip I can recall is that I've always wanted to do acid. pot had made me want to try it since I was 12. if you seriously WANT it rather then being peer pressured into doing it.. most likely you'll enjoy it more. I always feel bad trying to get others into acid.. I dont really encourage it.

Gilliam seemed unaware that there actually is a substance by that name, only it's not considered a psychoactive drug. But I was pretty sure that I'd seen that term before in the context of being that kind of drug, and I managed to find where I had come across it - in a long-forgotten novel by Frank Herbert (of "Dune" fame), entitled "Destination: Void", a story about

creating artificial consciousness.

One of the characters in that story was experimenting on herself as part of the research, and one of the drugs she was taking was called "adrenochrome" (which as far as I know was Herbert's own invention.)

Now, here's the thing: Herbert's novel came out in 1966, while he was in San Franscisco, during the great drug-induced "consciousness expansion" of the 60's, and was likely a popular trippy read. Guess where HST was at the time. HST later wrote F&LILV in 1971. Coincidence? I doubt it.
