OMG when we moved into a house, there was a storage room that had a cartridge from this system. At the time I did not know what the cartridge was for until now. I remember finding it around the time the gamecube was coming out. At the time I think I was nine or ten years old, I would of never guessed it was for a video game console.
The SuperGrafx never had a 16bit cpu. It had a 8bit cpu (clocked very high for it's time). Only the gpu was 16bit. So basically this thing only has an updates gpu and more ram.
One thing that most youngsters don't know is that NEC was the n1 semiconductor company of the world up until 1991 and second up until 1999.
In fact, in almost all cases that people mention that people say "what were they smoking?!" about.. I can almost guarantee the designers were not smoking either. The things that this statement is said about are typically weird bad design that someone smoking pot would never produce.
Not condoning it, but a lot of the BEST art/music/movies/etc are made by people who ARE smoking things, not the other way around. The shitty stuff comes from normal boring average designers trying to be creative =/
God, I love your videos but I _HATE_ when people use the phrase "what were they smoking?" It's become such a stock phrase and to me it has joined the ranks of "LOL!"
I just imagine someone saying it and bursting out laughing, spit flying out of their mouth, drooling all over themselves, mixed with that crazy Brenden Fraser clap (search for it on youtube, you will NOT be disappointed).
Anyway, they likely weren't smoking anyway seeing that pot is HIGHLY illegal there. In fact, in almost all
The SuperGrafx version of Ghouls 'N Ghosts was very good, but the music/audio sucked compared to the MegaDrive / Genesis version, and the graphics were still a long way off from the arcade. just compare and see how much detail was left out of the SuperGrafx version. I have some comparison videos on youtube,
Super ghouls and ghosts has a special place in my hart, I can still remember staying up all night during summer vacation when I was a kid trying to beat this game with a friend. Very difficult game to beat. If I remember correctly it took us 3 weeks to beat.
I tried out Aldynes today; man, that schmup is still hard to get all the way through, even with infinite continues.. great game though. The parallax scrolling is nice and so are the sprites and bosses. If only the TurboGrafx caught on better stateside..
Ghosts n goblins for the nes is my favorite in the series. Second would be ghouls n ghosts for the genesis. The one on snes is cool too but super hard. Love that double jump though.

I've got both the NES version of Ghosts 'n Goblins and the Genesis version of Ghouls 'n Ghosts on Virtual Console. Let me tell you-- I really suck at those games. They're very addictive, though! :-)

That was a nice intro this time around, i felt the switches went smoothly, the next thing you outta cut out is when you get up to shut off the camera, that part needs to go.
Alright, I know someone else that knows a Super Grafx now! I agree that 1941 and Ghouls 'N Ghosts were the best games although Aldynes wasn't too bad either. I believe the system was 400 at launch.
My cousin had one of these and I always thought it was just the Japanese version of the TG16. Nice to know the real difference

That was a nice intro this time around, i felt the switches went smoothly, the next thing you outta cut out is when you get up to shut off the camera, that part needs to go.

Awesome intro! Looks like a 6 cylinder engine huh? Maybe that makes "PC Engine" an ironic name.

the meter on the bottom is a charge meter...if you hold down the attack button you can do more powerful moves!

Alright, I know someone else that knows a Super Grafx now! I agree that 1941 and Ghouls 'N Ghosts were the best games although Aldynes wasn't too bad either. I believe the system was 400 at launch.
