  • Comment removed

  • @tkalsessionz soooooooooooooooo true man

  • @funktuall This is a cool sample series you got going. By the way, the song Different Strokes by Syl Johnson was also sampled by Kwame in his song Ownlee Eue. As a request, could you maybe please start recognizing the rapper Kwame, because I've noticed that he hasn't been mentioned once in this sample series or is it just me? Anyway, thanks, you the man!

  • @agbrown83 he covered Kwame in the "Funky Meters" episode "Cardova" was used in "The Boy Genius". And, Bob James's the "Look-A-Like" in "The Rhythm". These video's are the ISH! I've been taking notes.

  • This is blowing my mind. I have a collection of about 2,000 tracks that have been sampled... but I'm still missing tons and tons

  • just to let you know man i love your show watched all episodes in 3 days xD

  • Larry Graham is Drake's uncle....His father's brother....So that's a pretty talented family!!

  • @funktuall You gotta realize though, as a kid who grew up in the 80's, born in the mid 70's, these are great to always hear. I think what keeps me coming back to your videos is YOUR enthusiasm. It rivals my own. I still remember walking around with a Jansport with CD's and Tapes listening to old tunes. I appreciate what you do and your appreciation for this lifeblood we call music

  • ok u did get the Dj quick my bad

  • hey funk Dj Quick also sample betty wright tonite is the nite for the song tonite how could u for get that its a classic and then (can u dig it hunny) also was sampled by leak brothers come on bro how do u not no that your from new york arn't you ?

  • daamnn.. what song is that at 8:54 so fuckin golden

  • Two Live Crew sampled that Betty Wright song. Their song, "Man Not A Myth" on their Banned in the USA album.

  • Yo Funk just wanted to give you a shout and much love from the ATL. Keep doin' watch you're doin'. I love the fact that in a lot of shows I at least have 2-4 samples. I myself am an aspiring breakbeat junkie, so I appreciate your show and I'm a fan on hubpages as well.

  • yo....you madd dope ....PBS aint got nothing on this!

  • The 2 DJs that I wanted to be the most like were DJ Jazzy Jef and Mix Master Ice. I actually bounced at a club Mix Master Ice DJayed for back in the early 90s so I had the pleasure of meeting him. One day I will meet Jazzy Jef.

  • Another great piece of History. You have covered SOOO many tracks and there are still more out there. Looking forward to the next class.

  • another great lesson. and again I have new funks to break to, thank you very much funk.

spend the past few weeks checking your channel, I'm simply amazed. learned a lot of hiphop history here.

but knowing that the instrumentals of songs I've been listened to all my life are almost all covered is kinda disturbing and same time eye-opening.

  • Yo Funk, I keep telling u, u gotta come through. Jamaica's gotta lot more 2 offer than just "Countryman". U haven't even tipped the iceberg yet.

  • WOW! Props on the DJ Quik sample - Sly Stone for "Say No Go"???? Great story on Sister Nancy "Bam Bam". Another dope vid!

  • I love Funktuall's enthusiasm. Thanks for bringing us some more De La samples, man!

  • So fucking cool dude!

  • Love it, Bom Bom is by far one of the ill'est samples.

  • awesome top 10! to bad I didnt know you were are the DJ EXPO or I would have found you to hang out! next year!!!

  • In Jamaica the ol' instrumentals are called VERSIONS! Many different DJ's(MC"S in Jamaica) would rip the hardest riddims of the time!"This Generation Rules The Nation With Version!" These unique artists were ripping the MIC in the early 70's! Any real hip hop heads know of the Battles Ninja Man! Beenie! Bounty! Burro Banton,Capleton! and the list goes on. All music has the same roots! ONE LOVE! And yo Funk, I told you I want to set up something Dope hear in Vegas, and I want you in!contact info?

  • Loved the Sister Nancy bit especially, big fan of the track n can appreciate it on a new level.

    Will check out Countryman too.

  • love that "lets pick some boogers" LMAO great stuff funk

  • attention all ladies the candyman is on the prowel and for those that want to get busy u gots to speak up now!!! this rhyme this time is one of a kind, blowin ur mind like only the candyman can, like heavy weight champion, knockin em out an other bout without a doubt... the memories my friend and that betty wright track one of the greatest of all times.....memorie dont live like people do , they always member you wether things are good or bad its just the memories that u have!!!

  • You da illest bro!!!!

  • It is now clear that the ten minute format was holding back your musication. Great stories in this one, both personal and regarding the music itself.

Also, how about a preview of the shirt if possible?

  • funktuall you too sick for this 1...

  • you look more like Grover than Kermit.

  • Yo funktuall do you know the song that has the lyrics hey you stop freaka, freaka ,freaka

  • @jaylamb393 I just asked you for the name of the song not to play it homie.

  • Even BIZ MARKIE GETS A BREAK!!!!

  • i heard that kleeer tonite joint on the phat trax series i got.

  • Quality video yet again. Expanding my knowledge of hip-hop.

  • You have been schooling me for 41 shows now,how the time flies when you have fun.

  • Thanks for giving Larry Graham and GCS some love. I have most of their albums from the '70"s but back in the day, we were blasting his tunes on those old Panasonic 8-Track players that looked like dynamite plunger boxes.

Mirror is also a great album with some classic beats. In fact, I still have that one on 8-track. LOL!

  • Dope. But your list missed that Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam" was also used for Guerilla Black's "Compton"

  • Thnx again bro, good shit onceagain

  • Thank you for everything!

  • @funktuall keep it up dude... and i cant wait for the Bradley Nowell edition... i love sublime. get that one up and the nas one up fast... think about nas illmatic... 10 songs on the cd. 10 great hip hop samples!!!!!

  • This was just what I needed today!

  • Another great top 10 as usual, I can't wait for the No Freakin Way Bradley Nowell Edition...it's gonna be amazing!!!! Sublime ftw!

  • Love the Betty Wright track. Back when I lived in Louisiana, there was an old school pimp who got out of the pimpin' game. He had a radio show on Sunday afternoons. Over the years I got schooled in soul. That's where I discovered Bobby Blue Bland, Betty Wright, Denise LaSalle, Latimore, etc. It's been years and years ago, but nothing feels more right that soul and classic r&b on a Sunday afternoon.

  • YOU ARE THE.......MAN!!!

  • From episode 1 to 41 man you're still doin' your thing and droppin' hip-hop knowledge. Appreciate the intensity and love of music you share with us all. You keep postin', we'll keep watchin'.

  • "Tonite !"

    Great DJ Quik samples :-)

  • still on baby!!!

    Dj Quick remembrance

  • You should analyze a whole Kanye West album.

  • That tune Dj Quik sampled is absolutly sick!

  • is that first sample used in smif n wessun 's "Shinin...Next Shit"

  • Your in good form Funk. Great list.

The Betty Wright album was the focus of controversy back in the day do the the fact that it wasn't really a "live" album. Listen carefully to the audience. It's merely a generic audience track that is simply faded in and out. When Betty says; "Is that all right with you?" the engineer just cranks up to audience track. FAIL

  • Poppin as always!

  • lovin the enthusiasm !

  • nice man BUT i woulda liked to see the real cover to the diamond d break i know it aint by george benson alone.....

    PEACE AND THANK YOU

  • haha, i could seriously just watch you dance and get stoked the whole time.

you dont even need to say the samples.

although they help with our beat making and i appreciate the time this takes

to make one of these videos.

    -BYCD
