hehe, this wasnt at the drop of a hat, I took like 6 months to do the physics engine and then this was just a test... the physics engine was made to make quick little things like this as well as games.

nope, I am rewriting the engine though so it wont be a problem
and it may have been because the constraint solver was a bit out of wack and had some bugs but I never did figure out what they were.
