Yea Carl Reiner Sid Caesar and Howard Morris were all masters of the ethnic double talk. There is a funny Show Of Shows where Sid and Howard do a Prussion General
and his dresser bit. The double talk is hilarious. It's too bad all those shows are gone forever. The show ran for YEARS and none of it recorded. There only exists the hand full of bits.
Either Carl learned a lot from Sid or Sid from Carl . . . regardless, they are masters of their craft. Fascinating how they based their work in vaudeville but came up with something uniquely their own.
Wonderful! I had the immense pleasure of seeing The Smothers Brothers live in Las Vegas a few years back. Carl Reiner is a genius; Jim Henson of The Muppets, particularly, The Swedish Chef, has this as his inspiration, I'm quite sure. Sugar Coated Nazis!
Carl Reiner had a LOT of experience as a writer/performer was able to think on his feet (and ad-lib when he had to) when working with Sid Caesar on "YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS" and "CAESAR'S HOUR" in the '50s. This 1967 excerpt is no exception...
I didn't know Carl was a racist.

Carl Reiner defines "The Golden Age of Television" with this hilarious clip. The Smothers Brothers are priceless. Loved their show.

I don't think he was ad-libbing. He just did a good job of making it look like accidents. Good post
