i do pole dancing and i love it! its awesome exercise and it has built up my strength big time! I deffenetly understand the way that pole dancers are viewed! I did pole dancing in high school and forever was being called bad names just because it was one of my hobbies. so to all them ladies who want to do it, dont pay attention to all them bias people and just do what you love coz in the end thats all that matters..
I totally agree, I too am getting tired of being judged on my graceful and beautiful sport. Especially when friends or anyone comes to my house and see's my pole - the first thing they usually said is "you got a stripper pole in you lounge!".
ITS NOT A STRIPPER POLE! I don't strip! I exercise and perform gymnastic on a vertical pole - that simple.

I've been amazed at your strength on the pole, and it was great to hear you speak as well. I'd add that the more dancey aspects can't be discounted either. When people say the sexy aspects are all about men they imply that beauty only exists in relationship to men. When actually our sexuality belongs to ourselves. Any feminism should begin with this basic concept. I'm a part-time pole fitness instructor and I see the confidence it gives all sorts of women!

I've not had any negativity yet, the raised eyebrows amuse rather than annoy me and I tell people how fantastic and demanding poling is as an exercise, whether performed gymnastically or with a sexy wiggle. i am 16 and a boy, and i love pole dancing. i agrue with people all the time about this matter. i am currently writing a report for schoo on my future job goals and i have chosen pole dancing. the school is trying to stop me and has considered my topic immature and a joke. i have only been dancing since june and am doing so without intruction because i cant afford it at the momment. congrats and props. keep up the amazing works you are inspiring
Well said KT, I am taking pole dancing class, and i have nothing but the utmost respect for those who have mastered it, even those who do it in the club, it takes talent to be able to do those things on the pole. Honey, you don't have to explain..pole dancing is an art and people are starting to talk about it how great it is to do to keep in shape. Pole dancing started in clubs or burlesque, but now it is a sport..it has gone beyond strip clubs into something more. It has become the "endurance" art of pole dancing..that's what it means...a challenging fun sport. This sport is no different than an athlete spinning around on a rope during a performance or at a circus. Same thing except on a pole.

I agree,sadly I think the negative views you discuss will always be to some extent present,just because of the way pole began. It's just a fact it started in the strip clubs,so it may always be associated with the adult industry.But it's totally evolved from that into a legitimate & beautiful dance form.Most women taking classes have never so much as stepped inside a strip club.We bring our parents to our performances (my dad films mine!) & we come from all vocations and walks of life.GO POLE!
I just want to say a special thank you to KT and to all the women who have inspired me to start pole dancing by posting their videos! My husband and I do pole dancing together and help each other out with all the moves. I am just sick to death of all the negative comments left by perverted men and jealous women. Too right pole dancing is extremely hard I am a beginner and after my first lesson I truly appreciated how unbeleivably hard it is. KT makes it look easy but thats because she is the most amazing woman and is at the top of her game, she is my idol and I want to eventually train to be a pole dance teacher !

I agree! I think pole dancing is definitely distinct from pornography (not that I think there's anything wrong with either). I was raised in a religiously fundamentalist setting and I used to think both erotic dancing and pornography were degrading. But something is only degrading if what it <i>depicts</i> is degrading, and I can no longer believe sex is inherently degrading. It's a natural part of what it is to be human.
And while any idiot can make pornography, it still takes skill to make <i>good</i> pornography. I cannot imagine pole dancing could be very easy, either. Anyone could dance with a pole, but a good pole dancer will make it <i>look</i> easy, so that the audience sees only the erotic aspect of it, the beauty of it, etc., but not the effort that went into it.
I completely agree. Some people don't understand how physically demanding pole dancing is, and just how much creative thought goes into it. I've done several "classical" forms of dance and none compare to the difficulty and grace required in pole dancing. It's not demeaning, it's almost a power trip. I just wish you could come to my town and teach some of the girls here. Keep it coming, i'm fascinated by your amazing abilities!

But,, people don't see or know the about the hard work and dissapline that makes up a gymnastic rutine on one of these poles,, I firmly believe it should be an olympic sport,,

A group in america was performing pole dancing at a stand at a women's show, amongst other stands with people selling breast implants, vibrators etc- some women were having stuff eaten on them. the girls at the pole standing stand were wearing sportwear, tank tops and clothes, and some women complained about them saying they were degrading to women! eventually the organisers of the show asked them to leave, and now they're suing for descrimination. good on them i go!
I'm a man working in the domestic violence field and a women friend of mine is learning PD'ing. I first saw it done today, watching Rowena and others on these videos. I know from movement training that there is tremendous skill, balance and strength in this work. I appreciate KT, your committment to the work and speaking out about this art form. I'm a level 3 Gym Instructor as well as having and Exercise to music certificate and teaching Pilates and pole dancing is by far the most difficult thing I've tried - but also most fun!
i know what it's like to not have your sport respected. but even though any sport/dance/art that takes talent, creativity, strength, perseverance, dedication, etc FULLY deserves to be respected. unfortunately there are so many people that judge without really knowing anything. all we can really do is tell ourselves that we see it differently, and those people don't have the capacity to be open-minded.

I had my second pole dancing lesson today, and I can understand now why you must get so pissed off with all the negative comments!! Its soooooooooooooooo hard! To get the strength in my arms to lift myself, took the whole of the first lesson!!! It's bloody hard!

KT, I love what you are doing for this art form. Although my style of dancing is more sensual, I am totally about trying to show others that this is an extremely technical art form that has nothing to do with pleasing a man and everything to do with personal expression through movement. Lead on KT!
I agree with you totally here KT. I also posted a comment on the newspaper website that you refer to in a round about way. And i would never bow down to a man either I am too strong a person to do so, I joined the army at the age of 16 so that i could prove i was as good as any man there, and i did that by winning best physical training award in a mixed troop, so why would i as a women lower myself if anything i have become a an even stronger woman for pole dancing!!!

i'd like 2 add on lol this thing only let's u have 500 character thingies lol. pole dancing is very creative if u ask me. all the moves n stuff i'm like woa how do they do that lol. but ya it's very graceful and out there n expressive. i bet it feels like u're flying. that's probably why it's so popular

this definitely changed my views on pole dancin! i always grew up hearin that it was slutty so i always thought it was. but watchin videos of proper dancers such as urself, it made me realize, what's so dirty about it? what did they do 2 make it look dirty? all they're doing is basically advanced ballet. thx a lot KT! keep spreadin the word! =]]

I Believe you are just right on the money mate,,
Some of the girls I have seen over the years have been just stripers using a pole,,
But,, people don't see or know the about the hard work and dissapline that makes up a gymnastic rutine on one of these poles,, I firmly believe it should be an olympic sport,,
as it is every bit as demanding as any of the floor, beem, or bar, gymnastics,,,,

A group in america was performing pole dancing at a stand at a women's show, amongst other stands with people selling breast implants, vibrators etc- some women were having stuff eaten on them. the girls at the pole standing stand were wearing sportwear, tank tops and clothes, and some women complained about them saying they were degrading to women! eventually the organisers of the show asked them to leave, and now they're suing for descrimination. good on them i go!

I'm a man working in the domestic violence field and a women friend of mine is learning PD'ing. I first saw it done today, watching Rowena and others on these videos. I know from movement training that there is tremendous skill, balance and strength in this work. I appreciate KT, your committment to the work and speaking out about this art form. I think that when pole dancers dance with beauty and grace, its amazing! that shows the real side of pole dancing!

i know what it's like to not have your sport respected. but even though any sport/dance/art that takes talent, creativity, strength, perseverance, dedication, etc FULLY deserves to be respected. unfortunately there are so many people that judge without really knowing anything. all we can really do is tell ourselves that we see it differently, and those people don't have the capacity to be open-minded.
the only thing you can change is how you react to things.

I had my second pole dancing lesson today, and I can understand now why you must get so pissed off with all the negative comments!! Its soooooooooooooooo hard! To get the strength in my arms to lift myself, took the whole of the first lesson!!! It's bloody hard!

well KT u really have hit the nail on the head with ur comments on poledancing , If ppl really new how hard poledancing is then maybe US girls would get the recognition that we fully desearve . Ive only been poleing for 4 mths and i love it ... its a brilliant way to loose weight and tone up . But I think the warm reception I have received is due to you and instructors like you that have devoted their time and energy to making this a legitimate and reputable exercise program and art form. KT, I love what you are doing for this art form. Although my style of dancing is more sensual, I am totally about trying to show others that this is an extremely technical art form that has nothing to do with pleasing a man and everything to do with personal expression through movement. Lead on KT!

I agree with you totally here KT. I also posted a comment on the newspaper website that you refer to in a round about way. And i would never bow down to a man either I am too strong a person to do so, I joined the army at the age of 16 so that i could prove i was as good as any man there, and i did that by winning best physical training award in a mixed troop, so why would i as a women lower myself if anything i have become a an even stronger woman for pole dancing!!!
