Gotta think about the kind of pressure the kid was under.
I think he handled himself real well considering who he was playing with and in front of a good sized crowd. I'll bet it's lit a fire under him to push himself harder and it'll pay off.
i dunno why you call him really good he can play reasenoble but he does the same lick over and over again there are better people his age that are three times better
Well Mike was 16 at the time of this video which would mae him 17 now and he is about 5 times as good now as he was then. For not even knowing what he would play prior to arriving at the venue i believe he did about as good of a job as can be expected. I would imagine that playing live in front of thousands of people is also different than some kid sitting in his bedroom with a camera and practicing it about 50 times.
he was alright. i dont really think not knowing the song is an excuse. its blues. its not too important knowing the song before the show. although, for his age being in front of a large crowd and next to joe id imaging its nerve racking for sure. he kinda just stuck to one position though. i would have liked to see him use more of the neck. all things considered though he did well.
I was at this show, and I thought the kid did really well considering his age and experience. Standing there in front of a theater full of guitar players, playing right next to a player as phenomenal as Joe is a lot for a 15 year old to handle. Sure he stuttered in places, but I'd probably piss my pants.
bcozzolino, hes awesome, he can play anything, and sinsofourfathers thats the song that he played, sampz93, he beat out over 50 guitar players in the region
i would care to enlighten u as how mike did not improvise. ofcourse you hear alot of repeated licks. licks that we all heard SRV do. im not saying is bad but its surely not improvised. u wanna hear improvised playing? listen to mr Bonamassa
Bonamassa isn't improvising either (by your definition)....he practices enough, and has practiced enough for a whole lot of fuckin years, that those are all LICKS for HIM.....this isn't fucking Jazz Fusion. If you want to hear IMPROVISING listen to Allan Holdsworth. Watched your videos haha...man, if you can't find that at any Guitar Center in the nation then I don't know what to say.
Really, Wow...

Wow that guy is pretty good at guitar. I'm 18.
I wish I could have the chance to jam with Joe. That would be awesome.

I think Mike did terrific. I'm almost three times his age and would be ecstatic to have 1/10th of his current ability :)

I suppose, though it's still improvised to a point. I do see your point: it's not "completely improvised". And you're right about Mr. B. lol.
