  • this looks like mario kart in real life

  • both have very good driving skills!! (=

  • Horrible !!!

  • Lotus holding back the Mercedes BLUE FLAG!

  • YESSES !!!!! GO KOVALAINEN !!!!!

  • theyn look like RC cars in a convention

  • drifting is a great sport but not a racing motorsport. its more of a hobby if u get the true intention of the sport drifting. and true car control is either to control a car to get the car to hold a certain angle or control the car so u get the optimal slip angle.

  • Kovalainen like a Rally driver. I think he would drive the Ford WRC team, and he will be champion.

  • wheres the drift? -.-'

  • @Squealward 0:32 and again at 0:43

  • @AndersO1983 Was that it?

  • @Squealward Yep, that was it. It doesn't look like much, I know.

  • they are fuckin terrible

  • for more than a year you've been sending me PMs about kobayashi. enough.

  • And it takes ALOT of skill to drift properly

  • Drifting, Hated by the FIA, Loved by the crowd, Go fuck your snob self @grnark1ll1us

  • Schumi really cant drift, can he?

  • The first guy was lucky that he started in the left line. because at the beginning he got advantage of rounds

  • This reminds me of slot car racing

  • I think driving cars is cool not matter what you're doing in em'! Even just driving to work is a pleasure!

  • Where was the drifting?

  • @NeroKoso second lap XDDDDDDDDDDD

  • BTW FIAT IS JUNK

  • dumbasses stop arguing about something that neither one ! dosent know what drift is!!!! FIAT PUNTO CANT DRIFT.... THAT IS E BRAKING!! THIS ISNT DRIFT!!!!!!

  • Twin!

  • Who cares about drifting anyway? The skill is in avoiding the drift, or rapidly rescuing it if you do slide.

Drifting is to motorsport what beach football is to soccer. a sideshow

  • @gnark1ll1us

I agree with two exceptions.......1 Rally... 2 . dirt track oval racing...

  • @gnark1ll1us Well said!

  • @gnark1ll1us So if e.g. Rally Driving is not motorsport, what is it then?

  • @phresnel1 But drifting isnt the whole point of rally driving. If a rally driver can take a corner without drifting, he will.

Drifting every bend is not going to give you the fastest time, and THAT is the point of rally.

You dont get style points for a drift.

Any loss of traction, in a power slide or a 4 wheel drift = lost time, hence 4wd is popular in rally, and RWD is quite rare.

Well what I said originally still applies to rally, its just they slide often due to the gnarly surfaces.

  • @gnark1ll1us I would say that drifting is an essential part of rallying, including both handbrake and oversteer drifting. Drifting is a lot about A) getting the car in position to hit the gas as soon as possible after the turn, and B) to give it a faster spin than it would have with a "conventional" three-point maneuver as in "grip racing". Of course A) and B) are not optimal in every corner and every motorsport. Depending on the engine, drifting might also help in keeping the revolutions high:)

  • @gnark1ll1us An extreme example: A 180° turn at maximum steer on tarmac. We test the time between turn entry and full throttle. A skilled driver could give the car a fast twist, and upon twist the car would become slow enough. So he would turn and spin simultaneously, and still has high revs. The other driver, avoiding any drift, would need to decelerate to walking speed *before* any attempt to steer, than take the turn at walking speed, and when on line again, full throttle, but from low revs.

  • @phresnel1 Besides at what stage did I say rally was not motorsport?

Soz, I defended myself for soemthing i didnt say, but I stand by it.

And drifting is still a sideshow : D

Ill give you another analogy. 20/20 cricket to Test cricket. 20/20 is still cricket, still the same game, BUT its just not the WHOLE game. Same as drifting to pure motorsport.

  • @gnark1ll1us "Besides at what stage did I say rally was not motorsport?" -> You implied it (accidently) by stating that drifting is an unwanted show effect in motorsport ;)

  • @gnark1ll1us if you cant drift you cant do an rapid rescue like you said so dont be stupid

  • @gnark1ll1us and Tell that Ken Block that drifting is a sideshow

  • @dirdyhodan Sorry bringing Ken Block into the argument actually demonstrates my sideshow argument. All Ken Block does is Sideshow circus tricks.

Has he ever won a real rally? Not some local event in USA but an event in the WRC?

Hes just famous because of youtube, not becauise he was ever a WRC champion. Sorry.

I mean has he ever even scored a single point in WRC? With millions in sponsorship and a works team, he has singularly failed at competition, succeeding only in getting youtube views

  • @gnark1ll1us then stop watching the video and calm the fuck down if you don't like it

  • @bearhardman I think ur are the one that needs to calm down : D Im just responding to what people say, its not my fault most people agree with me so my comment is the first thing you see when viewing this vid.

Sure you need skill, and drifting is also entertaining. Its not that I dont like it either, its just I prefer racing.

  • @gnark1ll1us oh woah! 12 people agree so you da boss! yes son. "who cares about drifting anyway?" "and drifting is also entertaining. its not that i dont like it" ERRMM HELLO?! mate sort your self out

  • @bearhardman mad as in mental

  • @gnark1ll1us ?...

  • @gnark1ll1us

Only that beach soccer has the hotter girls watching it ;)

To me, drifting is one of the things which makes motorsports worth watching.

I mean, imagine early 90s DTM races without drifting, no one had watched it.

  • @gnark1ll1us hmm i do not agree with you , you say because ken block did not win a race it takes no skill to drift? does it mean that the sideshow like you say doesnt require skill? and in wrc you know you need to drift right? your arguments are veryyy wobbly

  • @dirdyhodan I never said it takes no skill to drift, and yes it is a part of all motorsports.

Ken Block isnt so great though, Ill stand by that.

  • @gnark1ll1us thats a very close minded view at something that takes an incridibly amount of skill to do

  • @gnark1ll1us Drifting is a controlled slide, the skill is not in avoiding it but in controlling it. If you're going too fast for a corner it's faster to drift around than to slow down for it.

  • @hektikethnik Apply this in F1...

Drift can be faster only in some circumstance. Maybe in a low DF, low mechanical grip, high weight car in a slow corner. But also you are running it nearly always to the tire slip point.

  • @hektikethnik only in video games

  • @hektikethnik

You should read carefully enough and understand. It is meant in the whole driving panorama that drifting should be avoided by skill. Drifting is just aesthetic yet useless and counter-productive.

  • @gnark1ll1us soccer doesnt exist but in your mind, the sport is called Football wether you like it or not... and the stupid thing played in USA is called American Football in the whole world aside from the USA...

  • @gnark1ll1us drifting takes more skill tho and is all about style

  • @gnark1ll1us for the most of the time. Yes. But some places it is taken to a professional level. But like the "grand-father" of drft Keiichi Tsuchiya said. He wanted to promote it because it was fun. :) We even have freestyle extreme sports in OL now. How is drifting any different really? Not to mention tandem duel drifting? Tandem drifting is in somecases harder than races. Much more challenging IMO compared to say drag racing. Which last I checked, werent concidered a sideshow. :)

  • @skvakagud And they can take right turns to in drifting..

  • @skvakagud Yes maybe drifting one lap maybe harder than racing one lap, but they also don't drift 60+ laps in a row. I don't care for drifting but I'm not going to down drifting. I do think F1 drivers for instance have more car control than drifters.

  • @greenh well said. :) The endurance part of racing is definetely not seen in drifting, i agree. And I would also agree that driving a formula 1 car on the edge, is like drifting. At drifting you keep it X amount of % above the grip level. In formula you wanna push it to 99.9% of the grip possible. So.. Agreed. :b

  • @gnark1ll1us tell that to juan manuel fangio....the real godfather of drift, 5 time world champ too

  • @gnark1ll1us The term "rally", as a branch of motorsport, probably dates from the first Monte Carlo Rally of January 1911.The bias ply racing tires of the 1960s-1980s lent themselves to driving styles with a high slip angle.

    I care,its fun.

  • no wonder Heikki is pro!

  • ooh look at me i can drift, so what, you still have a 2 inch penis

  • @wasup23tube ohh look at me, I can turn left, I still can't see my penis.

  • wtf kind of cars are those? get this shit out of here. for fucks sake. can someone please buy them some s15's and some rx7's or something. this is a disgrace.

  • @SCHIZOPHRENlC hahha you are clueless

  • power slide in rallying is skill. sliding around in the sport today called drifting is silly. i used to do this as a kid with my grandfathers zx. no real skill needed as im no michael schmacher.

  • drifting has been around for years, perfected by crazy rally drivers in the mountanous slopes. nothing about asia, but they sure as hell didnt invent the concept, just good marketing. Still, i cant watch the stuff, drifting is stupid to me.

  • Drifting is stupid? It's your right not to like it but please, we should be telling the truth. It's something hard to do and needs skills so it's not stupid. :)

  • is this really schumacher and kovalainen? what are they doing with.....WRC cars?

  • no i went to see that live and they were drifters

  • this is the Race of Champions Nation's Cup a.k.a ROC. They race against each other in a wide variety of cars, life WRC's cars and also others...

  • there are still more chances to overtake than in Valencia

  • "Yeah!" at the drift!

  • Nice drifting

  • your stupid.

  • ya shure...and name is correct...ya too shure : /

  • wake me up when the japanese can correct the drifting that an f1 car will unexpectedly start at 200+mph while pulling 4 lateral Gs.

  • Actually these are "FIAT Grande Punto" (maybe the Abarth race version).

  • ... What are you talking about Americans can't drift? Have you heard of Team Falken's Vaughn Gittin Jr. in his Mustang GT500? How about Tanner Foust?

G-forces are less why sliding than they are while someone has grip... When you lose traction there is less force pushing against you.

  • thats just few of them....Japanese are better in global view...Korean too,but weeker. anyway you must take a longer way in optimisation for Ford due this car is muscular...Shevie too...they are too powerfull cars...and is so much harder to drift with strong back power for example...

I never sad that American cars are bad...just about drift talking

  • dude last i recall the dodge viper was a BEAST in drifting but i could be wrong since it won idk how many times....... but its like you said american cars cant drift.... its just 600 hp rwd car witch last time i check is perfect for drifting

  • those guys r small times these guys here r the big boys

  • haha

  • drifting is a joke I think..... I think it seems like something a group of country boys were doing on dirt roads back in the day.... boring!

  • @tsirosgoddammit You obviously haven't seen Kamui Kobayashi drift his Sauber in qualifying this season

  • @freytheviking possibly. are you watching f1? i find it boring.

  • @tsirosgoddammit Google "Kamui Kobayashi"

  • @tsirosgoddammit lol? No F1 car drifts @ 200Mph, ever heard of downforce?

  • @kronzomg what about downforce? you think it's some kind of magical force that will NEVER ALLOW the tyres to slip?

  • @tsirosgoddammit no but the traction control and esp systems won t allow that to happen for longer than a sec

  • @eoLHerbie afaik, esc and tc has been banned from formula 1 since 2008

  • @tsirosgoddammit Kobayashi BITCH

  • @tsirosgoddammit I think I can wake you up. Search Kamui Kobayashi.

  • @tsirosgoddammit three words: KO BAY ASHI. like the lawyer in the usual suspects except he's not british and his name isn't made up

  • @tsirosgoddammit Wake up mate! :) search for kobayashi drfiting in canada 2011... :)

  • @tsirosgoddammit

Wakey wakey, go watch Kamui Kobayashi.

  • he IS a showman after all...

instead of just drive around after the stall, he waited for heiki to approach, so they could both give a good show for the people...

  • Just out of curiosity.. how do you wait for someone's approach if the person is ahead of you on track?

  • very simple. this track is a close loop, like a F1 track. if u go slow, the fast driver will come again from behind and try to overtake u again ;)

  • tracks repeat they dont go on forever.

  • i love the race of champions

  • God that track was skinny. Awesome driving by both of them!

  • nvm, Fiat 500 Abarth

  • Ain't them Fiat Punto S2000 ?

  • yeah

  • @ILykToDoDuhDrifting

Erm, I do mind as they are in fact FIAT Grande Punto S2000's for IRC rallying and other national championships.

  • What are these cars called?

  • I love Kovi, he's got a great persona

  • Finland churns-out great rally drivers. Kovalainen drifted the car like a true Fin!

  • Just like Mika and Kimi.

  • the marshalls did not look too happy about that! lol

  • The boys can drive

  • This is not Ekstrom, that's Kovalainen.

    Nice video ;)

  • Love Schumi, Love in second lap, first draft
