  • theres no telling how the day might end ...theres gold in them fruits

  • brilliant :)

  • this is a fine example of Ron's genius

  • oxy something

  • new coldplay album is out

  • the voice of chris and ron are similar XDD

  • can people, especially 'wealthy' music people not have a whip around and ease this man's finacial situation, he's never had a hit song and therefore is always struggling.

yet he has produced some of the greatest music ever put out there, and is covered by the biggest and greatest names in the world of music.

FUND him and give him breathing space, too not only continue, but to feel the reward of his beautiful hardwork!!!

    Please.

  • The first person I ever heard sing this song was Katie Melua and I have to say I think she did it beautifully. Now that I know Ron Sexsmith is the songwriter and not Katie it does change my thinking of Katie but I still think this is a great song.

    "There gold in them hills"

It gives us something to wish for and I respect the message this songwriter is trying to send.

  • not bad, very good

  • Ron's the musician's musician. Ron should get more airplay.

  • Sheer genius.

  • It's a beautiful song, with two beautiful voices that so good when they do together. As a fan of Coldplay, I still don't understand why many people don't like Ron. The contradiction but somehow similar between his and Chris' voice made the song unique.

I always think it's like a poet, so beautiful song.

  • Federica dice sia una canzone da coccole!!

  • @Abcde16AbcdE

    ohhh yes!!

  • Beautyful

  • Chris martin is a god in front of this Sexsmith guy.

  • @ranajeetruud Chris is a god in front of anyone. :\

  • This guy is a genius. That's why people just don't get it. Thank you Ron for enriching my life, ears and heart. A beautiful voice. The music is astounding. The ideas and poetry sublime.

  • @robmatlivingstone I'd like to know what you call talent. Ron Sexsmith has more talent in his pinky than Chris Martin will ever deploy in his entire life. One of the great, unsung telants of our time.

  • Kermit rocks!

  • At first i thought it was justin bieber ( old ), but i scratched my eyes and realized it was Ron Sexsmith.... Thank god

  • chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin chris martin= <3

  • CHRIST!! he looks like Tom Chaplin :P

  • hard to watch while drunk.

  • such a wonderful, tender song. i love the last verse. just...beautiful.

  • great song!!...but fucking memories

  • Chris is so cute!

  • The original is always the best. Lots of people can sing, obviously the hard part is writing the bloody song!

  • Sweet song, makes me feel better.

  • bester song der jemals geschrieben wurde! :)

    meiner meinung nach

  • Ehrlich?

  • Rons Sexsmiths is the most extraordinary singer songwriter I know of; Great video too.

  • Chris Martin sounds amazing, of course, but major credit to Ron... it's a great song

  • chris martin are the best singer ever!!!

  • If you have nothing constructive to say, shut the fuck up.

  • Ron Sexsmith Music Genius

  • ron has a weird voice..

chris martin way better and funnier and coolerr

  • when i first heard this sound i thought ron did a good job but then i heard chris's voice and it reminded me wat a real amazing singer sounds like!

  • reminds me of good times which I trowed away

  • Elton John has said that Ron Sexsmith is one of his favorite songwritiers, extremely talented and it's a shame that he's not MTV material because he should be more famous than he is. Chris Martin is also very talented but marrying Gwen Paltrow didn't hurt his career....

  • you are dumb chris martin is so much better

  • who cares who sings it better!! they both make up one EPIC song! =D

  • god this song is good

  • chris martin looks like an angel in this

god knows he has the vioce of one

    stupid gwenth paltrow

  • I 100% agree!

  • @im8teennow very mature last line

  • @Edo88Italy um??? dont take everything so seriously

  • @im8teennow lol, what has she done?

  • @danilohmacri shes married to him

  • @im8teennow why stupid

  • @goingwiththeflowww i dislike her persona.

but the comment was mostly just a joke...

  • DARREN BEGG COME BE WITH ME

  • mmm chris is yommy :)

  • if ron sexsmith wrote this song, then i have a lot of respect for him because i like it a lot. that being said, i think chris is a way better singer. ron says words weirdly and gets really nasally whenever the notes get over c4-ish. i think it would be a lot better if chris sang the whole thing and then will champion or someone did the harmony with him in the last part. i think he's one of the best singing drummers ever!

  • Ian McCulloch wannabe Chris Martin is lucky to just have his name mentioned in the same sentence as Ron

  • Lots of comments on who is the best singer. LMAO! Who's the worst is the question?

  • this guy is crap coldplay is much better

  • Not everyone knows who that guy is. I heard the song in my playlist and wanted to know who chris was singing with. Then I found this, in my opinion he sounded a bit like kermit and that's it.

I mean what's the matter with you? I said that I like the song, because of Sexsmith. I'm not making fun of him.

Are you in love with Sexsmith or something??

  • I love the song...but Ron Sexsmith sounds like Kermit the Frog..no offense to him..I can feel the mood change when Chris's voice enters the picture....

  • I'm serious though! I like the song! I wasn't insulting him like I said NO OFFENSE..Coldplay is better...a LOT better..in my opinion anyway. Geez, if you don't want to hear my opinion don't read it. Thanks.

    I <3 Chris+Coldplay

  • Calming.

  • what a beautiful song ^^

  • A love the song, but the first guy (not Chris) sounds like Kermit. But maybe that's why I like te song.

  • LOL, he does sound a bit like kermit!

  • Someone gets angry here LOL

I wasn't saying that your Sexsmith (funny name) is a bad singer, I'm just saying he sounds a bit like Kermit. And then a wrote: Maybe that's why I like the song.

And I think Coldplay is much and much better.

    Amen :)

  • Well, now you just look like a jealous idiot.

  • A superb song, beautifully sung by both artists. And so relevant 2 what's happening in America in early dawn of a new administration.."dont lose heart..give the day a chance to start.Any DJ's reading this, get your finger out & start playing this & just have the satisfaction for once that you're playing a song because its great & not because some corporate arsehole blows smoke up your ass with a computer generated "flowchart" which confirms that its worth playing.REAL songs.THATS what we want .

  • true that man... true that.

i was at a place where the dj was playing the usual shit and he just said fuck it, im gonna play the good shit I love. he put on toto by africa. half ppl in there left. the other half stayed their and rejoiced :D

  • what does 'there's gold in them hills' means??

  • It means that even though you face obstacles like hills that there is good in facing them because it teaches you how to be strong and overcome the obstacles to get to the happy times. Basically even in hard times there are good lessons.

  • Sexsmith has to be one of the greatest songwriters of our time.. He knows how to put such meaniful words and complementing melody/music together, thats a gift:)

  • he's such a nice guy too! I performed with him 3 times in high school and he is so down to earth and nice!

  • you performed with chris or ron?

    x

  • ylimeretseb: I performed with Ron Sexsmith three times in high school, including once at the Phoenix in Toronto when I was 16, it was an amazing experience!

  • chris martin is awesome

  • @StellaChase19 Sure is!

  • OMG HAXOR he stole my last name :p (yes my name really is sexsmith)

  • Interesting, my last name was Sexsmith and I had it changed legally to Fexsmith. No problem, had to pay court costs, but now I am Moose Fexsmith. Only, I cannot sing like this guy. I am trying to think who he reminds me of. I guess maybe Coldplay. Somebody else though from longer back.

  • What the meaning of this song?

  • that there's gold in them hills.. no, i don't really know;D

  • I've alway loved this song even though (or maybe just because of) it is rather corny.

  • is coldplay in this song?

or the main guy from it???

    I LOVE THIS SONG <3

  • its Ron Sexsmith + Chris Martin (lead vocalist for Coldplay).

  • I dumped my girlfriend when I played this song :P

  • WHAT??????

  • So, did you and Ron ever get together?

  • Damn good song.

  • This is Beautiful

  • Ron is the man.

  • For me there's to musicians/poets/singer-songwriters....Townes Van Zandt and Ron Sexsmith.

  • one of the favorited me songs :) 1st blur-tender 2 gold in them hills and 3 dont youcry tonyght

  • i looooove how chirs sing here<3

  • The album is Cobblestone Runway

  • Ron sexsmith wrote it.

  • Great song, first heard it in queer as folk. It really sets the mood.

  • Cold Play - A Rush Of B-Sides To Your Head

But is this the original?? Dying to figure out who actually wrote this excellent song.

  • Ron Sexsmith!

  • I love this song!

Does anyone have any ideas what album it off? Can't find it in either Coldplay or Ron

  • Written by Sexsmith. In 2005, he released a collection of songs recorded with drummer Don Kerr and it appears this was one of them and never appeared on an album.

  • It's on the cd Cobblestone Runway, if you go to Ebay you'll probably find it

  • I love this song!

  • i get confidence when i listen to this song

  • oh gosh. i LOVE this song.

  • Great song!

  • love these guys

  • Ron sexsmith is brilliant!!!!!

    plus he's a canadian!

and most of his songs are real easy to play on the guitar

  • Neither of them can really sing...watch them strain for those high notes. I will say that Ron can write though and that is where his "gold" lies.

  • >Neither of them can really sing

I agree but I can think of a few other guys that never had that hold them back:

    Randy Bachman

    Bob Dylan

    Neil Young

  • Chris Martin can sing...

    1. hitting High notes is no a necessity for alot of good singing. 2. Chris CAN hit high notes.

  • of COURSE he can sing! haha

  • because you cant hit all the octaves doesn't mean you can't sing...blues singers rarely hit high notes....they can sing, they just don't have a wide range.

  • A gorgeous Ron Sexsmith song, and a beautiful version with Chris Martin joining him.

  • Im stunned that nobody has mentioned that most of this song rips off the sound of Babyface's song (The Day). Listen to it, youll see. I racked my brain for a week top remember what this ripoff sounded like. Too bad, I like both artists and thought they would be more original.

  • That's probably because they don't sound even remotely similar... in my humble opinion. I do not like 'The Day' at all and love this song.

  • I listened to "the day" and have to agree (in part) to you as the two songs sound really similar. But then again I do not like the day because it lacks to me everything what makes this song exceptional. The lyrics are better, the voices are more beautiful, the background music is way more interesting and not as plain and boring as in "the day".

  • This just hurts me in my testicles to see all these comments referring to this gem as a Coldplay song.I am by no means a Coldplay-hater (in fact I like all their albums except X&Y), but Chris Martin could never in a million years write a song this inspirational and just flat out beautiful. For all you Coldplay fans out there, check out why Chris Martin wanted to sing with Ron in the first place. Check out his past albums and support an artist who truly deserves recognition.

  • Ron and Chris aren't competing- they're collaberating. They are both brilliant artists in their own right. Very uplifting song-great stuff.

  • who wrote this? it wasnt too easy for me to google but i feel like ive heard it before. that line "Lady Luck aint smilin..."

  • Ron Sexsmith wrote this song, and 99% of all oother songs he sings.. he is brilliant:)

  • I love this! Ron Sexsmith is so talented. Why do you think Chris Martin did this song with him? To be so shallow about his looks and singing style shows how media fed your musical taste is.

  • mmm...not really a 'pissing' contest to see who has the better voice, it's a beautiful song because of both of their voices and of course the lyrics. But I would definetly say see Ron Sexsmith live if you havent already!

  • I love this song - it comes to me in moments when I really need it and lifts me up so I can get through the moment

  • It hurts me too see that coldplay didnt sang the whole song ron made beautifull lyrics and briliant music but cant sing.....

  • you are a fuckin mental! ron sexsmith has one of the most controlled, powerful, introspective, beautiful unique voices in music. full stop. you have to see him live it is completly mesmerising!

  • I'm sorry but can't agree with your opinion. I admit he has an unique voice but he is nothing compared with Chris.

  • hahah Chris Martin could not sing or write his way out of Ron Sexsmiths paper bag! He jus tisnt as lovely to look at so one is famous in or shallow world of pop

  • A+! But I'm sure Chris Martin is a swell guy and seriously admires Ron's music like so many other 'bigger' artists do.

  • I don't think Chris Martin's voice has ever been considered a strength of Coldplay. It's a great song and their voices blend together pretty well, I wouldn't change a thing, personally! Your opinion doesn't make you 'fucking mental' though.

  • Coldplay are the best...lol. damn ron it must be LITERALLY painful to have ur guests getting the recognition for ur songs. thx Mr. paltrow.

  • a lot of comfort in this song...

  • すばらしい!

  • I love the lyrics to this song, very cool and true.

  • I wondered why he sounded like Paul McCartney?Though great song...

  • He lookes very borred,^^

Very nice feature, Chris Martin =))

    Coldplay are the best

    love this song

  • Sexsmith is one of the greatest singer/songwriters of today. Very different sound than any other i know of. Great in live concert too. super nice guy to boot.. thanks Ron:) Plus I own all his cd's, he has a new one coming out in Spring 2008

  • Simply the most optimistic, hopeful song I've heard in the last few years. Coldplay redeeming modern culture yet again.

  • wha?

  • this is a RON SEXSMITH song! chris martin is only in it because ron was feeling charitable...i mean what have coldplay contributed to modern culture recently. ffs!

  • this song is my history ... my history in canada.

  • Does it still makes me cry every time i hear? yes!

  • Nice song...

Chris Martin takes it to a higher level.

  • Ron Sexsmith is awesome.

lyrically, one of the most intelluctual song writers of the modern era!...

    ...Chris Martin...hes alright...awesome collaboration tho

  • This song is amazing, and Chris Martin I will give a 10/10 as always.

  • Beautiful Song! Ron and Chris sound amazing together!

  • If there was video back in the 50s and 60s, most of those with musical talent would never have been as popular as they deserved to be. There is a lot of mediocrity shown on MTV and don't even get me started on how pitch and vocal quality is improved by technology. Sexsmith is extremely talented. Besides, if you are a talented songwriter you don't have to be 'hot' - just let those royalties keep coming!

  • Which explains why Ron isn't a huge star. Too many people only go for "hot" artists. It's a good thing for Mozart they didn't have MTV back in his day. He would have been a failure.

  • Chris Martin is hot and much better than ron sexsmith.

  • I'm sure that you're very acquainted with Ron's catalog and are offering your informed opinion, which is why you referenced Chris Martin being "hot;" Everybody knows that all great artists are "hot."

  • omg chris martin!!

excuse me while i die of joy!

  • Phenomenal! I love this song so much. Thank you for uploading the video!

  • thanks for the show on friday night ron. you truly are the king of kings.

  • Sexsmith rocks!

  • beautiful

  • This song should be a classic and def deserves major tv/radio play....

  • I can't believe how beautiful this song is! The music and lyrics are absolute treasures! Why isn't this guy a HUGE! Sexsmith is an incredible talent!!! Thanks for all your giftedness. It's finally great to hear beautiful music again.

  • I actually spoke to Sexmith about this at one of his gigs years ago. It's crazy isn't it? It'll just have to be our little secret. In fact - Sexsmith IS the Gold in them hills!

  • There's something about Chris Martin's voice which is just so unique. And Ron Sexsmith too, they're both excellent artists.

  • Ron Sexsmith is an excellent singer-songwriter. If the radio industry wasn't so screwed up, he would have had like 20 hits by now.

  • Forget radio industry! Search for beauty wherever you may find it. This song is a treasure.

  • i love this song so so much. its beautiful. ron and chris make a good duo :D

  • Coldplay rocks! Chris is awesome! And this is a great song. Oh and the other guy is not bad.

  • careful, you might be told to open your childish ears

(and i agree with you ;P)

  • Chris Martin really gives a high value to this song.

  • Sexsmith is amazing, it's unfortunate that he's not very "sellable". He truly has a gift for melodies. Oh yea, and he's Canadian, another plus ;)

  • I think David Gray is a much better singer/songwriter. This guy's voice is so dreary, you can barely understand what he's saying.

  • greatest songwriter with a pulse

  • sorry, coldplay dude... the version w/ just Ron (and no drum machine) is *way* better!

  • full of hope as a coldplay song, chris voice is a gift and the music is just from heaven. LOVE COLDPLAY!!!

  • quite.

  • omFg i didnt write this gay message , it was a friend who logged in with my acc by mistake ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
